Edited by: Ritard on 15/12/2007 02:31:52 Now, I don't know about you people, but when I fist laid my eyes on a destroyer, it made me rather excited, and game me a warm feeling inside... the size of the thing, the hull cluttered with turrets, the sheer power & aggression exhuming from the form of the hull... It was beautiful. The cormorant, of course wasn't what I was looking at (it was, in fact the Coercer), however, when I did finally see one, it had all the same features that made the Coercer so endearing as a complete and utter gankship inside a frigate's body.
Yet, with the graphics upgrade, I cannot help but feel let down how weak and pathetic the cormorant now looks. I can't quite put my finger on why exactly I feel this way, but the feeling just doesn't leave. So... I decided the touch the design up a bit, inspired, somewhat by the way the iteron family of industrial vessels have modular extensions in the middle of the hull... So, we begin with this:
(in case we can't post images) And I present to you the cormorant Mk II:

Yeah, those images will be changed by a mod soon.
But uh, the Cormorant looks like it has the same amount of "sheer power & aggression" (lol) as it did before the update. See here

Personally, I think his second pic would make for a great T2 salvager dedicated destroyer. Rather industrial looking. _________

to be honest thats not all too bad of an idea. when i first saw it was just going, going to write a ***** extension/compensating post. But it got me thinking.
Since they dropped the speed of the destroyers why not make them bigger (as you have shown) give them more guns a bit stronger tank, and then they can really cruise with gangs acting as anti tackle support as a slow moving, small gun platform. (gear the bonuses more towards tracking and range) so they can hit fast moving tacklers on the way in and at orbit.

More guns, Ugly? Methinks its been a while since you've flown a destroyer. They are already great at anti tackle support as is. I think all they need is a slightly smaller sig radius, and a bit more agility. They are too fragile to stand up to a cruiser, but fly like one.

Destroyers have a big problem:
Almost cruiser size and speed Frigate-ranged powergrid
This means a cruiser-sized target has frigate defenses and repair.
The correct balance would be if they were better at handling frigates than a cruiser (even if they teamed up on it) but quite worse at shooting cruisers.
That would keep them with the fleet. No excessive speed.
In construction, basically a tier1-2 cruiser with same size, same armour and shields, enough grid and cpu for 1 cruiser repairer, 1 energy neut (but that costs 1 gun), 1 cap booster and say 6-7 small guns. NOT enough for a 1600mm /large shield extender, less hardening. Inbuilt very good tracking bonii, a 50-100% range bonus on small guns, less slots.
The frigate damage would be achieved through hit % (tracking), not RAW DPS, and guns having cruiser-range means decent fleet range-support.
They'd be a bit softer than cruisers (plus no huge passive tank), but frigates attacking them would die a lot faster; this would mean they'd be a lot harder against frigs than a cruiser. But a T1 cruiser/ BC getting into range would pound them down hard.
No drones.

Edited by: Ce''rynne on 18/12/2007 14:05:33 I think UGLYUGLY and Granth Roden have hit the nail on the head. IMHO dessies don't really seem to have a role in EVE besides fast-running low level missions and as a salvager, a rather unflattering use of a wonderful little ship type.
So how about it CCP? Put some glamour and glory back in to these dealers of frigate death

You're right ofc, i loved my first corm to bits, it just doesn't looks as good as it did but the black/red colour scheme is reserved for the tii ships now ***The EVE servers and their patches*** |

Dessies would be so much more worthwhile with just one more slot. They're agile enough as is - in fact, they're better then AFs at agility. Less lowslots/midslots then a proper combat frigate is a gimping factor.
