Trade, sales, and buying taxes should increase as the security of the system increases. This will encourage people to spread and do more business in low sec, closer to 0.0. These business people in high sec areas make way too much isk without any type of risk at a good profit margin. One more thing to be noted is the low skillpoints needed to make a decent trader does not correlate with how much these alts (mostly) can make. I think it's time for Jita to get nerfed.

Quick and easy solution: Give all buy/sell orders a 5 system-radius be default. That way you could scatter buyers and sellers across a douzen, or even two douzen systems and reduce node strain. No need to enter a particularly crowded system to sell things, or to set up buy orders...

How about suggesting solutions rather than whining about whiners?
There's no solution, when CCP gets a supercomputer capable of processing 10000 players in jita 15000 players will rush in.

While we can all agree jita needs to be fixed, I think something most of you fail to realize is you have no clue how too. If any of you have master degrees in economics I might take you seriously otherwise the road to hell is paved in good ideas and intentions.
Forcing players to pvp or forcing players to pvp too soon will just hurt ccp, there are way to many other alternatives to eve that offer scaled balanced pvp. Eve has scaled the ships very well almost too well, however they have left pvp wide open creating many situations that leave new players being slaughtered by 2+ year old players who end up in wow as that genius suggested someone should go there, I hate to tell you if you and a few fan boys play eve it wont make enough money and it will close down.
Reality, Wow 9 million subscriptions, Ever quest II, Reported 3.5 million subscriptions, Eve 200 thousand, subscriptions, Eve has a been around as long as both of those games the facts are simple for anyone to see, Non consensual pvp in situations that are completely un-winnable to one side is not appealing to the mass market of online players today. Nobody wants the 2+-year-old player beating him or her up on day 15 and I have seen that way too many times in eve.
The aptitude that you should go play another game is really bad, unless ccp lets us play for free? Then getting rid of player would lower its bandwidth costs....however I am pretty sure every player pays ccp money....

Originally by: Akita T Quite a lot of text for not saying much new. Oh well, I guess it does have to be re-stated again and again, every once in a while.
Let's recap, with a much more pragmatic look at the situation. The MAIN reason why people complain about Jita is that it lags badly, nothing else. And it lags because everybody wants to go there to sell stuff quick, shop for all the stuff they need in one stop, or sit there and trade, spam or scam. The more people use Jita, the more useful it becomes, and the only limiting factor for not having more than a few thousands in there all the time is that it lags.
The only way to "fix" Jita is to make it so that people don't want, or better said don't need to go there to do bussiness. The way to fix trade hubs in general, not just Jita, is to finally unify the market and contracts into a big whole, and introduce a NPC-mediated semi-automated transport method.
All packaged items would be sellable on the market, and only auctions would be allowed for all packageable items under PUBLIC contracts (private contracts would remain as they are now). Markets and contracts would be accessable from ANYWHERE within the EVE universe, and instead of a "regional" limitation, the listed items would be filtered by range.
On purchase, you get the default option to "buy at product location", but you also get an option to "get INTERBUS delivery" to your current location, or a location of your choice, for a moderate extra price and a certain fixed time until delivery (HIGHSEC routes ONLY)... same system would maybe take 1 minute, then an increasing amount of time for each subsequent jump (0j 1m ; 1j +2m = 3m ; 2j +3m = 6m ; 3j +4m = 10m ; etc). For routes that involve lowsec, INTERBUS would only deliver to closest highsec system to your desired destination, and optionally create a courier mission from that location to your desired destination (your choice if it should be created or not, you select all details and pay for it normally).
Just my 0.02 ISK.
I think is is the best idea i have heard thus far... people are concerned about it putting long haulers out of biz... My suggestion would be to add a "tax" to the distance that the INTERBUS delivery would travel... (0j 1m ; 1j +2m+500isk = 3m ; 2j +3m+1000isk = 6m ; 3j +4m+1500isk = 10m ; etc)
Make it even a % so that if you buy a ship and have it delivered it could end up costing another 10% just to get it to you... make you go pick it up or make you set up a contract to have it picked up for you...
Like i said before, so far of all the suggestions i have read this one to me makes the most sense... tax us and charge us minutes for the convenience of a front door deliver... much like fedex or ups... even the post office... Good work Akita T.....

i've got a good one.
like someone said before me, anything not trade related would be removed (rats, moons, agents, belts). all stations in system would act like one station as far as buy/sell orders go. no more everyone at one station problem.
it would still be laggy as crap but at least it would be easier to buy and sell stuff in the system. also people would spend less time in the system.
one other possibility would be the option to have all items be able to be shipped to a neighboring system for 1% of the total transaction in cost. also have them shipped to Jita for a certain price.
note to ccp: fix your spell check. it says Jita is spelled wrong. ---

What if there was another system next to it with stargates to same systems. It doesnt even have to be connected to jita itself. I travel throug jita very often not even docking. There's nothing i can do about it unless i want to make up those 5+ jumps.

Making Jita a lowsec system is going to want to attract every gate camper/ blob in Eve, hence adding more people into a system that does not need a influx of people, 2nd there are so many systems that use Jita to jump system to system, that you have not choice but to jump into Jita to move into another system it just wont work.
Remote market trading or buying/selling Items in Jita and having them transported to your station or to Jita is the only way I see will bring the numbers down in local.

It won't make any good to make it low sec or 0.0. It would probably just lag more since everyone would be ganking and spanking. Automated NPC transports would destroy hauler profession.
The main problem with Jita is that it's like in middle of everything, somewhat by purpose. It could be easily changed by fixing jump gate routes. TBH I think having moar low sec systems and different jump routes would make it reasonable to use other systems as marketing places.
Also have to keep in mind it's really good to have some place where you can sell your stuff for distributors. TBH. You don't sell stuff at Jita because you get a good price, just because you can sell the stuff fast so your capital is not tied into merchandize and you can re-invest all your isk again in production/whatever. So I don't see how having taxes would solve anything, except increase price minimums.
There's also that good option. Don't go to Jita. You can buy most of your stuff elsewhere. Don't try to punish industrial people for selling their stuff.

i like these two ideas: 1. Tax people trying to get into Jita at the gate corresponding to how many people are already in system. If you have to pay 20 mil just to get in, those cheap Jita mods aren't going to seem so cheap then. 2. The delivery system. When you buy mods you would have the option of paying a bit extra to have it delivered somewhere within 1 jump of the system.

Ironicly while reading the topic im on route to Jita to sell/buy stuff.
Makes me wonder how many people are doin that afk en reading this forum right at this moment [:D.
But seriously a universe highsec wide hub will make the universe way to small. Adding hardware will add the same ammount of people x 2 (hey no lag lets go there, hey its laggy again etc.). Variable tax / sec status will hurt people that have a RL and can't be ingame to track all of this going on. etc.
But the idea to make the whole of Jita 1 station were you dock/undock automaticly when activating a gate next to Jita...I like. Please add that you must leave the way you came. So warring groups, can camp/track you at the gate you were last spotted.

Sigh...
Another Jita sollution thread that involves making the trade hub a lowsec system.
You want to hear a more viable sollution?
Why not simply have INTERBUS be able to ship stuff bought within a constallation.
This would meen that all the systems in the constallation containing Jita could be used to unload the lag in Jita.
Simply dedicate one machine to each of those systems and Im sure things would ease upp fast.
A delay of say 10min before the items are delivered and an additional cost of say 5%, both naturally reducable by skills should be enough.
As there would really be no need for everyone to be in Jita 4-4 people would naturally spread out based on such things as corp hangars, direction of needed hauling...
Making a high sec system possible to drop down to lowsec for any reason is a very BAD idea.

The delivery of items (for a fee based on volume & distance perhaps) by NPC couriers seems a logical solution to much of the Jita problem. I would also like to see stations offering a discount on sales taxes/fees if the item being sold is relevant to the station owners business. For instance, Imperial Armaments stations might offer a 50% discount on fees associated with the sales of armaments, stations owned by mining related businesses would do the same with minerals, Chemical Corps ditto with chemicals etc etc. This may well attract sellers away from Jita 4-4 to the nearest station where they can get discount on their sales and thus spread the load somewhat. It might need some work by CCP to create a few more NPC Corps that specialise in ice products, ammunition or whatever but the end result might be to drag much of the trade away from 4-4 to other systems.

As the OP suggested we need a "Final Solution in Regard to the J. Situation!" (i think that is trademarked by a rather famous perosn though..)
honestly though, whats with all those ******** people ranting about jita as a main trade hub?!
jita lag saucks bad, yes and i hope and actually expect ccp to solve it rather sooner than later, but not by discouraging people to go to jita in the first place...
i mean c'mon.. eve is supposed to have a player driven economy and if said players choose to have a central trade hub, so be it...period!
now the only thing i could image that would circumvent the jita problem is if ccp implements a decent npc transportation system, as in having -say interbus- ship your goods to and from certain systems for a nominal fee...
no tax crap, no station order limit, just remove the need to go to jita or any other major hub in person if you really dont need to
its globali, erm starclusterisation baby!

Edited by: Viper G on 16/12/2007 11:56:42 I say increase sales tax based off buy/sell traffic amount.
as high as 25%.
then buying and selling would evenly spread throughout the region as people would try and sell in the least taxed system.

Jita isn`t so much of a problem, the real culprit is the Auto-pilot system, that routes all traffic to and from Lonetrek through Jita
Simple enough to fix, I should think, but CCP are dragging their heels at making any decision at all... ---

My very first post on Eve-O was very similar to this: Jita, Concord, Donuts, and Chaos
And mine had a catchier title.
Having had some time to reconsider it, I don't think the dynamic security changing route is a very practical one when considering how it could potentially effect true noobs adversely.
I do think that a dynamic approach is the way to go though. And some of the suggestions along the lines of dynamic sales tax or gate tolls are interesting.
That said, Jita itself still has room to be adjusted to cut down on some of the crowding.
- It has seven gates. Seven! One of the reasons it became a trade hub was due to this. Make it a dead end system so the autopilot route planner quits picking on it.
- People are still running missions in it. Not sure if it's from agents in the system or if they're sent there by other system agents. Either way, that could use some delete action.

Concord due to heavy traffic passing though jita, a bypass has been introduced, while warping to/several sytems which incoulds jita as a system to pass though, a message will be displayed to -
bypass jita -you will now warp to the next system in your auto pilot list, (if not on a selection of warp gates will be shown) auto pilot will jump you in 30 second if you dont click (afk)
enter jita- if you do indeed have bissness in jita,
Concord we feal this will elevate traffic congestion in jita
(might work yes/no ??

it's been on my mind to post my solution to jita for a while, but im not really one for posting stuff,i tend to prefer just reading everyone else.
but tonight ive decided to reveal my solution.
some people wont like this but given time they will learn to adapt, improvise and overcome.
CCP have to do this without any warning otherwise it will fail.
Also its gonna take quite some planning and effort , so here goes.
At a particular time/date ideally during a patchday CCP move every characater and their assets out of Jita to another random system within 5 jumps. All market orders are cancelled and reimbursed ect. and all stations are removed from the said system.
I knw what everyone is gonna say ,and thats a "new jita" will be created some where else and the problem will re-appear, and maybe it will, but, not for weeks or even months as everyone tries to settle some where new and what - not, also with the threat of this sort of action happening again , perhaps people this time might be less enclined to settle somewhere too overcrowded.

Taxes? Restrictions? Regulations? Limitations? With all due respect, are you guys out of your minds? The game should be a refreshing diversion from the idiosyncrasies of real-world government, not a mirror image of it. Such hogwash is a 180 degree polar opposite of one of the game's fundamental design elements.
Let's face it... the player base wants and needs a centralized trade hub. So CCP, deliver it! I'm no technician, I'm a business guy, but Jita must be a hardware issue: too much demand for capacity in one location. So break down the location into smaller pieces and dedicate more hardware to each of the pieces!
The whole issue reminds me of a wireless telcommunications system... and the game's architecture has striking similarities.. when a given location becomes congested, i.e. call demand substantially exceeds physical system capacity, the end result is blocked calls, dropped calls, system hang-ups, etc. The solution is to break the service area down into smaller components and add the hardware needed to handle demand in each of the new components.
So.. in EVE, if a computer node is dedicated to Jita already, it is not enough. Maybe we need a node just for inside the IV-4 station and another just to handle all of the frivolities going on outside of that station in space. Perhaps a third to handle other stations in Jita. If that's not enough, dedicate hardware solely to market activity at the IV-4 staion. And so on... whatever it takes.
The point is, you have to give the customer base what it wants. After all, customers = profits

would be interesting what ccp`s private economist has to say about that idea. -

Edited by: Guillame Herschel on 17/12/2007 03:17:25 INTERBUS ANNOUNCES TRANSPORTATION BREAKTHROUGH 2007.12.16 14:30:00 At their regularly scheduled Quarterly Report press conference, Interbus officials made a surprise announcement about a breakthrough in their long-rumored research program into large-scale long-distance matter transference technology. They have succeeded in scaling the process up to industrial quantities, and can transmit millions of tons of bulk material across hundreds of light years in just a few seconds. The process involves the creation of a special class of very high energy wormholes. The generators are large and bulky and must be installed in special space stations dedicated to the purpose. Due to the high energies and quantum fields the material is subjected to during transmission, only simple bulk materials are suitable for this transport method. That includes ore, refined minerals and raw unprocessed moon material. More complex items are unable to be transported by this system, and organic living things are completely out of the question, even theoretically. But the potential to revolutionize the logistics of economical distribution of industrial feedstocks overshadows these significant drawbacks.
Interbus intends to begin commercial development of this process with the first permanent matter transmission channel to be established at new Interbus stations anchored in Jita and Amarr. The second phase will establish two more endpoints in Oursulaert and Rens.
Users of the new system will be able to place movement orders much like the present galaxy-wide contracts system. Interbus intends to price the service according to bulk. The larger the material to be transmitted, the more economical the transmission is, on a kg per kg basis, and so customers with large bulk shipments are expected to reap the biggest discounts and be the biggest users. Interbus also intends to link their new stations in Jita, Oursulaert, Rens and Amarr with the market in those systems, so that customers in any one of those system would have access to purchase material available in any of the others, and setup a combined purchase and transmission contract to have it beamed to the customer. Of course only material suitable for transmission through the system will be visible to remote market shoppers. -- Guile can always trump hardware -- |

Actually I wrote up an article to start a thread on NPC taxes. I posted it then noticed your thread and decided to remove it.
Use NPC taxes to help control player activity and population. This still leaves the players with the options to go into higher populated areas at a cost or to move onto lower populated areas at a discount.
Maybe adjust tax rates as often as every few hours based on player activity.
