I have the same problem. Usually it starts when i lock something holding ctrl, and not doing it via the overview. I can remove it again by clicking a structure or object (base, asteroid something), but not by clicking ships.
I know that this way of removing it works on atleast a couple of computers.
So, when flickering starts, click or lock a stationary object.

Flickering starts for me when i am receiving aggro from rats(im in empire, so havent experienced it from pvp). So, when the liitle red square starts to blink is when i start seeing flicker. And, the way i get rid of it is by clicking on my ship. When a rat dies, I picka new one, sic drones, and the flicker returns until i click on my ship again. Clicking on anything else (celsestial object, etc) doesnt fix it. Ill try the relogging if it isnt gone. It looks like some sort of v-sync/tear issue to me.

Originally by: CCP Redundancy It's too late for me to put in any more attempts at fixing this issue at this stage, but I'd really like to know if it's not fixed by the patch that we're putting out. If not, any more information about what might cause it to happen will be appreciated.
So to speak: hey, maybe it will be fixed, maybe it won't... we don't have a clue why or what but who knows, miracles do happen? Wow, I want to see your credentials one day.
You do know that bugtesting is an essential phase in product development right?
Oh man... but... if... but...
There's something of a difference between the sort of code you'll see in a "teach yourself to code in 21 days" book and the sort of code you see in a massively complex system, and by that I mean any software you might expect people to pay money for.
Any decent coder could write you ten lines of code that would take longer than the predictable lifetime of the universe to execute every possibility thereof. Developers like Redundancy, who take an interest and make an effort and put "best-guess" fixes in are worth their own weight in isolated sub-atomic particles.

Redundancy, it appears to only appear to me in a few certain missions, Stop the Thief is one of them. I can't remember what others cause it to trigger, but it's definitely happened more than once on Stop the Thief. I'll try and get this log server thingy running next time I do the mission.
PS. I approve of less strobing, more throbbing.
Its funny but ive tried frapsing it and making screenshots also... all frapsed material and screenshots looked NORMAL.. the bug somehow hasnt been recorded lol... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥-☻VENA☺-♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ |

This should really go into a bug report, but since we're here... :D
I've only had the flickering happen to me once, but in my case it's very reproducible. I've recently been anchoring some towers and everything is normal until I launch a gun for anchoring. Then all of the text starts to flicker madly and remains in that state until I restart the client. Even docking doesn't fix it. --- Honest officer, the dwarf was on fire when I got here! I would say this is caused by a videocard driver issue. For the simple reason that it only hapenes in some setups and or only under certain specific conditions...
If that is the case then my gut says driver issue. Of course I could be wrong but I would for one be very intrested in knowing the system information and then specifically, CPU, Video card, Chipset, and Video card/Chipset drivers.
If this was a code issue I would expect to see it a lot more and be a lot easier to reproduce on any/all systems.
At least drivers are my bet...

You are indeed correct, sir. Debugging IS an essential phase in the software development cycle. It just so happens to be that debugging is a non-trivial task and bug fixes don't happen easily. Most of the time, debugging involves a lot of guess-work. Especially in projects where code interacts with itself in extremely complex ways.

I had this bug (on original Trinity release--haven't patched yet) while changing out ships at a POS. It is as if there is one state where the text shows (the text that describes what the POS object is on space background) and another where it does not. Something causes those states to switch back and forth spasmodically. It seemed to go away after warping away from the POS.
