Okay, like every other mission bear the Raven (in my case the Navy Raven) was my bread and butter. Solid tank, easy to kill with, a cakewalk. Then we got our torpedoes changed. Here is what I used to use:
------------------------------------------------------ Navy Raven 4x Siege II w/ Javelin Torpedoes 3x Cruise II w/ Precision Cruises 1x Tractor Beam
1x Gist B-Type XL Shield Booster 1x Gist B-Type Shield Boost Amplifier 2x Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field 1x Photon Scattering Field II (Or suited to Rat-type) 1x Best Named Painter
2x Power Diagnostic System II 3x Domination/Republic Fleet Ballistic Control System
3x Capacitor Control Circuit I
Damn near cap stable, takes over 10 minutes to cap out with everything running. ------------------------------------------------------
As to be expected, this was a very good ship. The javelins made short work of cruisers on up and got there lickety-split. I was questioned for using T2 ammunition for mere missions, but the speed they lent justified their cost to me.
So, after the torpedo change I figured I'd try to keep using it. After all Javelins have a pretty nice range as it is. With my skills I could hit out to 38km with them and after one mission of finishing off everyone with my three cruise launchers I gave in and switched to a 7x Cruise setup.
I hate cruise missiles.
So as I was perusing the forum I saw someone selling a Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster, and a subsequent comment noting a player actually used this on their Raven. The mind boggles, so I loaded up EFT (I will not buy the booster just to run simple numbers, thank you) and played around. Here is what I came up with (changes of note in bold):
------------------------------------------------------ Navy Raven mk. 2 'Return of the Sieges' 7x Siege II w/ Javelins 1x Tractor
1x Pithum A-Type Medium Shield Booster 1x Gist B-Type Shield Boost Amplifier 2x Dread Guristas Invulnerability Field 1x Photon Scattering Field II (Or suited to Rat-type) 1x Cap Recharger II
1x Power Diagnostic System II 1x Co-Processor II 3x Domination/Republic Fleet Ballistic Control System
3x Hydraulic Bay Thrusters
It's effectively cap stable, according to EFT it takes 30 minutes to cap out, and the torps hit out to 52km (that is with flight time skill at III and velocity skill at IV, Caldari BS V and a 5% Velocity implant). At max skills, EFT reports a range of 64.3km. ------------------------------------------------------
I could sell my Gist B-Type XL Booster and buy the Pithum A-Type Medium Booster. What do you guys think?
Told you it wouldn't be a 'normal' Raven thread.

What does the siege torp pithum med booster raven tank? Is it enough for some missions? Otherwise torps that hit at 52km would certainly make mincemeat of most mission bs cept for those pesky ones that sit real far out.

TBH once I saw 4.79s RoF and 950 damage per torp, was when I learned to love the Raven after Trinity. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

Even a Pith A-type medium shield booster won't be enough. However, I have looked into Pith X-type large (not XL, just large) shield boosters, they cost roughly 1B ISK, shield boost like a meta 3.5 XL booster, and uses a lot less cap/fitting.

EFT numbers are slightly off on a few things that I've tested in game. Also, I don't trust damage, because it never shows any damage reduction, and people quote EFT dps as if it were infallible.
I'm not sure if the Med Booster would be enough, but it might be close on most missions. I haven't gotten to the point where I could use T2 torps yet, but would love to hit at 50k+ again with them. Might be worth it at that point. I really don't know what my input to this thread is though. www.the-bastards.com |

And yeah EFT's isn't infallible by any means. But it spit out relatively accurate (I'm not going to sit down with a graph and see, something I miss about Quickfit ) DPS numbers when I compared it to my regular fit so who knows. Certainly a Gist X-Type Large would work, but it doesn't fit right... Maybe I'll drop a cap recharger for another 37.5% SBA.

I dont understand, why do you fit med booster (it's a very good one).
You already spend a lot of money, buy yourself 3 DG or CN BCU and everything fits perfectly with missile rigging at lvl4.
7 sieges t2 Gist x,b type large booster, DG amp, 3 DG hardeners or invuls, named target painter 3 DG or CN BCU, 2 T2 pdu or true sansha.
Everything fits and you have something like 17 cpu left.

I came up with a similar setup months ago before the torp nerf, though I never switched because there was really no need to, cept huge CPU saving could have allowed full fitting with a drone link augmenter, also I used faction launchers which isn't viable anymore.
Setup was something like:
7x navy launchers, drone link pith a medium booster, 1-2 amps, 1-2 painters, and 2 hardeners 3 bcu, 2 pdu
3 shield duration reduction rigs I think or maybe 1 CCC rig instead
It actually had a slightly better tank then my Gist C-type XL booster with the same benefits of perma-running. Never switched though because at the time I didn't have the extra isk to spend for the pith medium.
