why are 80% of people who post here so full of hate
is it cause your wife wount sleep with ya or are them other kids in school teasing you maybe your friend is getting all them hot chicks ?
well it is a game and should be no need for hate there is enough hate in real world and if you have doubts then read your daddy¦s newspaper and you will see
i hope that our war will be fun as planned thoe you all atm

how come i see people who have NOTHING to do with the war sticking their phat alcoholic nose into something that dont concern them
try play with people who are equal and bring that hate back to them who make you hate ( and if its EVE that do GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR)

I think you are way over in your estimate of 80%. IMO its probably below 10%. Maybe even 0% as any serious hate posts are moderated.
I think you have got to read most of the posts with a 'pinch of salt'. For many, taunting the enemy on the forums is just another aspect of the game, and can be fun. What may be perceived as 'hate' is really just an attempt to rattle the enemy, which can have real effects when you meet them on the battlefield  .
Add to this the propaganda from alliances, and the 'counter-propaganda' from their enemeies ridiculing them and it can be easy to misinterpret the motive behind a post/thread. Of course there are instances where people get carried away or don't realise that others aren't serious in what they say, but these cases are in the minority.
So don't worry about the community, there is really a lot of love here  . Kick back and have a good laugh at the forum would be my advice.

Wrong.
The issue is IC vs OOC. IC "hate" is fine because it is portrayed though the mask on an IC character and the OOC ego is protected. OOC hate is bad because it is direct rl hate directed against the player not the character.
Hence Roleplay is "good" because it promotes IC emotions and healthy make-believe "hate" whereas non-roleplay is "bad" because it leaves players hating players and creating bad feelings.
How do you tell the difference?
Look for decent writing and stylised langauge and a sense of objectivity (meaning that the personna is not getting seriously ruffled ooc by the ic debate).
If its simply rl abuse and disrespectful language then its ooc hate and the guy needs to be taught about lets pretend because he clearly didn't learn enough in infant school.

I don't "hate" anyone that I have never met. I find it a foolish emotion that controls and directs negative feelings without delivering any positive tactical benefit in planning or debate. I believe that you are wrong to give into your hate, and that you are the weaker man for doing so.

I think the the problem we constantly face in these forums revolves around the word "think" in your sentence. I agree with what you say as such, I just think there is a very large portion of players that are wrong in thinking they understand this.
The whole mess is all about roleplaying and not-roleplaying players colliding in mid space, over and over and over again. Being a roleplayer, if I were to insult you, that would be directed towards your character.
What non-roleplayers fail to understand - and I am sorry if this is seeing as an insult, but this is how things look from honest perspective - is that I can insult my best friends' characters in game. And they like it, if that is the situation between the characters. In such a situation we both would have agreed to play a game, and would be out to get each other's characters as characters. It's all in good fun.
You guys play basketball, football, soccer, chess, whatever with your friends? Do you let your friend get pass you, because you are friends, and even more importantly - would he appreciate it? I think not.
The problem is exactly what Miso pointed out. Some people can't comprehend roleplaying. It's a harsh thing to say, but them's the apples. There is one cure, and one cure only - they need to learn to udnerstand it. It doesn't mean that they need to start roleplaying themselves, it simply means that they have to realize that when someone insults their character, they are not out to hurt the player.
Roleplayers can't cure this, there is nothing they can do except to stop roleplaying. They would not be roleplayers anymore, and thus they would have been forced to dump their playstyle. Non-roleplayers are not required to change their game - all that is required of them is understanding.
The other option is to continue having these flamewars forever. Sadly, I am 100% that this will be the case; and that my behind is going to fry for this post.

Grammar and writing style (and punctuation and spelling!) are not my strong points, but if you take out all of Jades fancy words and phrasing and actually look at her original post I think you pretty much end up with what I said in reply no.2. I just never used the term roleplay, since this gets confusing.
When I play the game I tend not to bother getting into the fact that I am a Ni Kunni unless I am dealing with PIE or Oracle say, and then I play along. For me, I log in and play as Durandal, member of SWI, member of the Stain Alliance and enemy of all things Curse. This is the extent of my roleplaying. Now I would suspect that many of the CA corps have members doing the same, and we both come onto these forums and shout about how n00bish the other is, or how one alliance is finished or whatever. This can be interpreted as hate posts etc, but really its just an aspect of the game we play. I'm sure Jericho Fraction will correct me if I'm wrong but this is similar to the style of roleplaying they use.
Using the analogy of a football game....I have friends who support a rival team, I go to the match cheer on my team, have strongly bias opinions of what happens when the game gets heated, shout and taunt at the opposition players and fans calling them everything under the sun, leave the game (whether we one or lost) and go to the pub with my mates who supported the other team. Now it could be said by those that don't understand or are not interested in sport and have never been to a football match that I was being 'hateful', but clearly I was not. Eve is the same, I log into the game and subsequently the forums, and leave RL at the door. The only problem these forums have are in the minority of cases where people can't see this and can't differentiate between a verbal attack on a character and the player behind that character.
Although I have to say that some of the posts against Jade are verging on a RL personal attack - might recommend a Jade filter for these people to stop the bloodlust

My point highlighted, thanks. At the risk of sounding like a spokesperson for Jericho (heaven forbid) if Jericho drag another alliance into a thread from the outset then it is for a roleplaying reason from what I have seen. Just their roleplay is a bit removed from the usual, 'I am Amarr, I hate minmatar' kind of stuff. And to be fair, Jades original post never insulted anyone and merely answered the question posed by the poster.
It was others who decided to start the mud flingin, and then Jade made that comment about someone getting grounded.

I have to agree with Miso. Ive played loads and loads of online games and this forum is by far the most "hatefull" one. Ive forum moderated several forums, most of them larger than this. But honestly, If the forums i worked on where anywhere near these 40% of it would be locked/deleted and loads of people would be banned from them.
As miso said its a game, play it and have fun.

I think the the problem we constantly face in these forums revolves around the word "think" in your sentence. I agree with what you say as such, I just think there is a very large portion of players that are wrong in thinking they understand this.
The whole mess is all about roleplaying and not-roleplaying players colliding in mid space, over and over and over again. Being a roleplayer, if I were to insult you, that would be directed towards your character.
What non-roleplayers fail to understand - and I am sorry if this is seeing as an insult, but this is how things look from honest perspective - is that I can insult my best friends' characters in game. And they like it, if that is the situation between the characters. In such a situation we both would have agreed to play a game, and would be out to get each other's characters as characters. It's all in good fun.
You guys play basketball, football, soccer, chess, whatever with your friends? Do you let your friend get pass you, because you are friends, and even more importantly - would he appreciate it? I think not.
The problem is exactly what Miso pointed out. Some people can't comprehend roleplaying. It's a harsh thing to say, but them's the apples. There is one cure, and one cure only - they need to learn to udnerstand it. It doesn't mean that they need to start roleplaying themselves, it simply means that they have to realize that when someone insults their character, they are not out to hurt the player.
Roleplayers can't cure this, there is nothing they can do except to stop roleplaying. They would not be roleplayers anymore, and thus they would have been forced to dump their playstyle. Non-roleplayers are not required to change their game - all that is required of them is understanding.
The other option is to continue having these flamewars forever. Sadly, I am 100% that this will be the case; and that my behind is going to fry for this post.
Thank you Karol. Well put. When many of us in JF post something it is primarily in character. If i come across as a condescending, aloof b!tch it's because thats what is intended. This is Azure Skyclad. As Karol pointed out, the real venom arises when you guys who don't roleplay think that I (the player behind Azure) are insulting "You" the player. Quite simply, no.
Insulting us either in or out of character is all well and good. Frankly, the OOC insults can sometimes provide us with more IC fodder to hurl back at you! The ammo the childish ooc insults provide for us IC is staggering! That said, Jericho would far rather have "IC" flame wars on these boards rather than have to deal with the unnecessary and sometimes downright slanderous OOC stuff that gets flung our way.
I think i speak for many of the RPers in EVE when i say flame, insult, taunt us all you want In Character or don't bother. It really does make you look very stupid and a very easy target for IC abuse.

Firstly to the mispelled Prophesy guy (and Swisher I guess) why don't I take you seriously? Because you aren't playing the same game I am. You are ooc "hate" meisters that want to make personal attacks and thats neither interesting nor valid nor effective against me really.
Let me tell you a secret, when I see an angry abusive post in a thread like these I sometimes like to play "troll juggling" which is a game that involves an angry off topic numpty and the english language. My task is to stay on-topic to the thread, and to remain witty and focused and civilised in my replies while nonetheless "keeping up the troll" with a number of bounces. The more time "mr angry" comes back with frothing crazy-sounding responses the better for my personal scorecard ;)
Does the abuse ever get to me? Mostly no, because I have pretty high self esteem that comes with being:
a) fit and healthy,
b) having a stable home life
c) free to enjoy myself as and where I choose
and
d) able to communicate without silly gutter frothing in an online game.
Plus of course I know almost 100% of the numtpties that post on eve forums would clam up and become "mr respectful I did'nt mean to offend you ma'am" if we ever met face to face in real life. Fact of the matter is that the internet makes weak people crazy and bold. It's like anonymous letters for poison-pen freaks. Gives the bottom-feeders of society a power buzz they likely don't get in their day to day lives.

Seriously though. I entirely agree with the roleplaying perspectives made here. It is about people "not getting" roleplay. Hence with mispelled prophesy guy he doesn't even appreciate the faintest concept that I might be posting from an ic perspective and hence goes straight for the ooc jibe. Well, like whatever, as Miso says it gets a bit tiring sometimes and its not worth wasting the effort on idiots. I am confident that the prophesy guys of eve mean nothing in the grand scale of things and its pointless wasting too much effort with them about from the occassional game of troll-juggling.
That said something good did come of prophesy once, because in response to his crazy flaming I think I sent an acerbic message in-game to his character (but it went to the wrong place) and another character who was a roleplayer and seemed quite nice wrote to me back. We had a brief chat and the person did a little roleplaying and that was lovely.
So in the grand scheme of things mr mispelled prophesy has served a purpose. He helped me chat to someone with a clue.
And thats propably the most positive influence he has been on the game for quite a while ;)

The situation isn't ideal. Far from it. But pointing out JF's responses to childish stupidity and crying "Look! They're (JF) doing it again!" conveniently ignores the folks who start the spiral down into hurtful, vitriolic, ooc flaming. It is very, very rare (if ever) that JF start a thread which is OOC. The OOC stuff begins to get added to the mix by others, not by us. Yet we are held up as the bad guys when it comes to the forums. Is this fair? Am i responsible for the idiot who can't maintain a level of civility? Is it my fault that many folks can not or will not roleplay? I am not going to stop enjoying a facet of this game because somebody else feels the need to come and kick over my sandcastle because they can't build a sandcastle like mine.
We will continue to RP. We will continue to use roleplay to achieve our ends. This is JF. This is why i joined JF. JF roleplay and i like to as well.
I doubt any of us are requiring you to like it. Just respect the fact that this is what we like to do. I personally find ganking for ganking's sake to be undesirable. I do however, respect the fact that this is how some people have their fun.

There are two options here. Either you genuinely dislike seeing our stuff (maybe roleplay brings you out in hives) If so, don't read it.
Or, you are actually jealous of the attention and wish we would stop doing what we are good at (public relations and media manipulation) ... this is invalid on your part and is about as crazy as me asking Techell to stop "making money" or Moo from "killing ships" because I don't like how good they are at it.
So if the former, learn to ignore it and have a nice life. If the latter, tough, accept that there are realties you cannot control in games (as in life).

No what I am saying is that the reason I don't get ooc abusive and het up to distraction on these forums is that I am confident that the posts would be massively more respectful in direct reality. Thats not a boast or threat, just reality. People are more polite face to face - fact. And you seem to have failed to fellow my argument, I'm not perfect, I'm not some kind of roleplaying martyr ... some guy talks ooc smack to me am I going to play miss dutiful IC response? Hell know, I will tell the creep where to get off or simply brush them off like an ugly bug.
And like I said, it kills the forums for you its your choice. For my part I loathe l33tspeak with numbers for letters (like you have been using) but hey, if it floats your boat whatever. I'm not going to try to teach you the english language. I have the freedom to ignore you any time I want too.
The critical point is that more people should excercise that right.

And here we at least see your interest m'dear; you are probably a CA/FE/MF character who doesn't like the bad press you are currenly getting. Well to be frank, tough luck, we don't like being war-dec'ed against either. And if your corporation sees fit to bring a conflict to our corporation we are going to fight back in every way we can. Politics is part of the game, Public Relations is part of the game. This in-game war has revealed that MF is an alt war corp of FE, and FE is a millstone round the neck of the remaining honourable CA corps. I'm sorry, but if you guys make in-game decisions you have to take the in-game consequences, don't try bullying us in-game and them whine about it when you pay a PR price on the forums. Those are the breaks. If you don't like it surrender.

You are absolutely right Soul Reaver, very sensible, very level headed and a nice guy to boot, (and also very good at the game) ... I wonder if there is some connection?
Seriously, you have the perfect approach, nothing phases you, you keep your temper and sense of perspective and never let hate cloud your judgement or ability.
Thats the scariest combination of combat talents I can imagine and it makes you a fearsome warrior of a breed these smack-talking ooc insulting wannabes can never dream of becoming.

Play the game in Eve not on forums. Eve is for information gathering. In this topic i see none of that.
People play the game as they see fit.
Never understand though why "man" use an female character play with and vice versa.
1. Maybe if you see an female character you think it is more thrust worthy. Think again some corpmembers of mine are fooled with thus sort of female character scammers and they still succeed. I heard from one "he" has 5 succesfull operations a day. Name "Hot Chocolate".
2. You do think not fast that a female character will attack your ship if your are peaceful mining in 0.4 sector. I have learned the hard way. And I think yes there is still a personnel matter of score too get even with that character.

Hate is make of greed. And also dominantcy. Some people get not in real life what they want. So they get it here.
But we all play this game, because we like it. We have a strong bondage in a corperation and work together too finally explore new grounds.
All though i find chats in local some quiet.

This is the whole understanding thing I and others are talking about. You don't understand it, but it is not very hard, to be honest. All you need to do is listen when people tell you what roleplaying is and then accept that when they talk to you IC, they talk to the character - not the player. When you talk back they also reply to you as the character.

Back on topic:
For non forum warriors, people like myself can feel stifled (before we even write) because of the insensitivity expressed to certain individuals. Where i enjoy a good forum war its without taste to publicly decimate viewpoints in an underhand manner.
Good quality threads exist here (Suprised almost) but when the dilution occurs, without doubt some of the great accounts have been muffled, hijacked even, to spin their magnificent words into eroneous folly. As trolling is easier than countering arguments using knowledge and intellect, perhaps i should not have much expectancy for great literature here.
Regardless of that said, quality does happen and should be enjoyed by everyone without child like thread snatching.

Its is hard not to troll or flame sometimes. You can be in a good thread ppl just make there comments, Then out of the blue some 5 year old will come along and say "your sh*t aaaahhh" and from then its a downhill slide.
Also annoying when you post an argument for someone to answer and its completely ignored (one assumes that they havent got one) for a reply to a troll or flame.

Because it's a game, it's not real life, thus it's okey to use names and appearances that are not founded in real life (that's why there's "character generation" in the game instead of subscribers sending IRL photos and High School/college diplomas), and for me - personally - it is more interesting to play a female character than a male character. I am male, so I've been there and done that alrady, and I've got the appendice to prove it.
So, to put it simple, some guys play female characters because it's interesting from a role playing perspective. Either that or that women have a tendency to look prettier than men (from my point of view, at least).
And besides, it is great fun to encounter men in local that upon seeing my character portrait immediately start trying to bundle me up for a IRL date.
BTW, I would not be surprised if there's a few girls out there behind male character portraits (though I think it highly possible that they chose male characters simply to avoid all those lousy pick-up lines).
