It's a private Instant Messaging server for EVE players (plus an e-mail account).
Account signup is done by making a minimum deposit in the in-game corp eve-mail.net [E-M.N] with new accounts added every hour.
Since the signup is in game all usernames are the same as character names. And there are shared contact groups that automatically show up in your contact list. No need to collect MSN addresses from corp mates one at a time.
And just because it was easy to add you also get an e-mail address with Webmail, POP, and IMAP access.
Right now it's in beta. I'm still adding features and writing code. I'm looking for some users to play with it and break stuff.
More details with setup instructions at http://eve-mail.net/beta.html
Just a quick post to start things off. Questions, Comments, Suggestions?

Just a quick note that as the bot and server have proven stable I no longer consider the service beta. Accounts are still free for now, however. -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I just thought I'd stop by and mention the service quietly plodding along, continually picking up new users.
I had one minor (non security) bug with account generation that delayed signups a couple of hours the other day, but other than that it's been rock solid.
I may have some time to tinker with The Postmaster bot, if anyone has some suggestions for features. Right now it just handles group management and my testing but does stuff like tell you the time in GMT (server time). And yes, test du jour is supposed to throw an exception: it's testing exception handling =) -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

Starting to add a few new features to the bot that pull your character's API data. Obviously you first need to set your API credentials, either full or limited. The bot will remember them for future use.
For right now it just gives your skill training time remaining, "The Postmaster: Your current skill will finish training in 4 days, 15 hours, 27 minutes." but more stuff will come as I play with it.
Any suggestions for new stuff are always welcome. -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

Dao Jindo - Nice to see you're still around as well.
This project has been a nice way to stay involved in EVE on a regular basis without consuming a great deal of time. Some (good) things in real life has made spending the time I'd otherwise like to in EVE impossible for the past some months. -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

Thanks for the excellent service! Traldar Six
It would be fantastic wouldn't it? ;) Unfortunately in game mail is not available through the API. If it ever does become available I'll certainly add that capability. You'd just need to give The Postmaster the relevant API Credentials.

Brilliant idea. I particularly like the automated setup of the email account by the transferral of ISK. Very clever indeed.
I confess the account setup method wasn't my idea. The EBank guys did it before me and may well have not been first. Back when Praxis was big in the ISS days we just used our internal corporate site (ABACUS) to manage Jabber (and forum) accounts. The addition of the API meant I could reliably provide the Jabber service to everyone without administrative hassles =)
Though I do get to take credit for using the 'comment' field on the transaction to set your password. Oh and to reset your password as well if you ever forget it (Usage Tip #1, heh).
P.S. The note in your sig directing people to settings to enable images is kinda useless now that sigs are off by default too (atleast they were for me just now) ;)

One feature that is enabled on the IM/Jabber/XMPP server is the ability to broadcast messages to groups. I think it's mentioned in a couple places but there's no description of how to use the functionality. It's pretty straightforward: [email protected]
For example the default group everyone who signs up is placed in is called "eve-mail". To send to everyone in that group you open a new conversation with the address '[email protected]'. To send a message to everyone in your corp it'd be something like [email protected].
You have to be a member of the group to send the message. Only admins can send to all users. There is some potential for 'overzealous use', but this functionality is available in some clients that do it 'manually' too so adding the server side stuff just makes it more convenient for some people. Anyone abusing the service by spamming people or in any other way will obviously be removed. -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I was thinking of tinkering about with the Eve-Mail system again. I thought I'd post here asking for some simple requests before I go do something that will only get used by me ;)
Post here, or you know how to reach me =) -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I know at least one other user on the IM server uses Adium's Beta version so I thought I'd post a heads up:
1.3b7 introduced an issue where if your own ID is in one of your contact lists it incorrectly decides it's bad XML data and disconnects. There's a ticket up on their trac server, I expect it'll be resolved by 1.3b8.
1.2.x (the current stable branch) seems to be unaffected by the issue. -- eve-mail.net beta (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I should note that one of my primary focuses of this project is to make it useful as an intra-corp tool. It served my previous corp well, and I know other corps are using their own private servers. But not everyone has the resources/expertise to set up an XMPP server (it's not, yet, like renting a vent or TS server).
So if your corp is interested in giving it a try, please don't hesitate to contact me and we can examine exactly how your specific corp wants to use the system and what additions or changes can be made to make it the most useful. -- eve-mail.net (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I know a few other corps, and alliances, run their own private Jabber servers. And of course controlling your own server is one of the benefits of Jabber, assuming you've got the machine/connection to host it and the time/expertise to admin it.
But one of the nice things about Jabber is the "Server to Server" (S2S?) messaging. If you have it enabled [email protected] can chat with [email protected] who can chat with [email protected] and so on. All with only one account per person.
If you or your corp runs a private jabber server let me know and we can put eachother on our whitelists. Though for now eve-mail.net is set to default allow. -- eve-mail.net (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

I realized this thread hasn't had a post in a while. It's not that the project has disappeared or anything. It's doing precisely as intended: Quietly plodding along gaining new users without much effort on my part.
I also thought I'd point out a short review posted by Wensley. -- eve-mail.net (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

The service is still available and active. Your account was created normally with your original 'reason' as the password. However for some reason your password was not properly updated with subsequent deposits. I'm looking into the issue now but am not able to test as I'm out of town and the copy of EVE on my laptop has been corrupted so I'll have to reinstall tomorrow.
Sorry for not getting to this sooner. I don't check this thread daily. In future if someone has a support issue it's best to mail me on my eve-mail account. -- eve-mail.net (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |

That's what I get for thinking I can fix something without testing access. Little errors like 'updateUser where it should just be 'update'.
Issue resolved, Nero's access has been verified as working, and password updating is functioning properly for everyone again.
Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience. -- eve-mail.net (thread) Instant Messaging and E-mail for EVE players |
