Your Characters are stored on Tranquility, a server cluster used by Crowd Control Productions to host EVE Online. It doesn't tank lots of people in Jita too well.

When you are not online CCP stores your characters on this server like this:
This way, they don't rot and are fresh and ready to use when you connect again.
So be kind to your characters, logon as often as possible so they don't have to stay in the phantom zone for too long.

This is Eve Online, an ingame persona used to play a character. It is used by servers to deploy cariers. It does this while safely stored on the templar.
