Wow, my emo detector just went off the scale, now I have to replace the broken needle. Thanks!
Well, I can't really remember the last time I cried. Must've been a year or more, probably during a particularly strong ending of a movie or something.
Because I guess stuff like using contact lenses for the first time or plucking your nostrils doesn't count?

Last time I cried was last summer when my grandpa died :( Age 80 so it wasnt "that" bad, but he was still full of life, and a skilled craftsman and great storyteller. He had great story's about WW II. I miss him, and wish I spend more time with him instead of playing videogames.

My grandfather just died some weeks ago - he was 90. I also wish I had spent more time with him instead of playing games or whatever it is that I do locked up at home... and even though I felt sad at his funeral I didn't cry - but that's only because I'm dead inside.

About 2 weeks ago, when I realized that I had really strong feelings for a girl who was already in a committed relationship. It was compounded by the fact that I was too much of a coward to tell her how I felt. Rejection is not nearly as bad as not trying.
..before that it was the ending to the movie Ray.

I can be a blubbering fool after about my fifth Jim Beam. I know it's time for bed when I start sputtering over a particularly moving piece of music. Like this.
Sappiness on TV will get to me as well. The Christmas episode from the first season of West Wing. The one where Toby arranges full honors for a homeless vet who froze to death out on the Mall. President: "But Toby, if we start doing things like that we'll have homeless vets coming out of the woodwork." Toby: "I can only hope, sir." That one makes me misty even when I'm sober.
Occasionally I'll stumble upon an episode of Grey's Anatomy while I'm cross-eyed. I keep watching because, well, Katherine Heigl. I always regret it. It's a stupid girl-show, and because girls do not actually feel emotion, the writers really have to salt it down with sappiness. That's dangerous for men, just like it's dangerous for men to handle birth-control pills. ----- TANSTAAFL

I generally only cry when I ponder on the fragility and futility of life, or see a new born baby's first smile.
I sometimes cry when I ruminate on the injustice of life, and the many pitfalls to which one can fall prey to.
I also cry like a bastard when my young son jumps on my lap and tears my belly-button ring right out. That hurts.

I get misty eyed on occasion during certain parts of movies and music, but then again those are crafted by the artist or director to instill strong emotions.
The last time I really, freely cried I was so overwhelmed with anger, hurt and anguish, that I remember shaking on my couch with tears streaming down my face.
I've never been so angry and sad at the same time, before or since.
It was my day off, so I was watching TV while I was eating breakfast on the couch.
I noticed that there was some hubbub on the TV news stations, about how a plane had flown into the world trade center.
At first, I thought, god, those poor people in the cessna, they probably didn't stand a chance, and just as I finished my thought I saw the clouds of black billowing smoke pouring from the side of the building.
About that time I realized that it had to have been a jumbo-jet sized plane that hit to cause that much smoke and damage.
A few moments later I saw the aftermath of the second plane hitting the tower, and I realized about the same time that everyone else did that we were being attacked.
I'd only been out of the Marines for about a year, and as the morning went on, I knew that we were going to be going off somewhere to kick somebody's ass in the next week or two, so I went upstairs to the filing cabinet to get my DD214 (Discharge papers) and all my other stuff I was going to need to reenlist.
My wife called me while I was driving to the recruiting station, and asked if I was watching the news. I didn't talk to her much, I was so angry that I just told her I was on my way to the recruiting station and I couldn't talk.
Well, she works as a teacher, and she had somebody that was on a prep period watch her class and she beat me to recruiting office by a few minutes.
After about an hour, she was able to calm me down enough to where I didn't end up re-upping, a decision I regret to this day.
Anyhow, that was the last time I REALLY cried.

An update, don't know how I could forget this...
Picture a big hall, a terrific party going on. The music stops, lights come on. The sudden sinking feeling as you realize that it's all over and time to go home. Some time later, the walk back to the hotel. And the day after... Everything just felt... empty. Didn't outright cry at any point, but it did bring a tear to my eye, and a lump in my throat.

Holy ****, I'm really sorry to read that. All the best over the Christmas period.
Last time I cried? Mid September, when we found out about DarkElf passing away. I'd gone to the pub with some friends I hadnt seen for about 8 months, drank a considerable amount of alcohol, sat in front of my PC and basically cried for an hour.
Felt better after that. It seems weird, I never met DE IRL, but it felt good to let something out.
Very good topic.

I'm sorry for your loss; there is never an acceptable time of year for a family member to pass away, one merely hopes that they can smile for atleast a small portion of year, especially around Christmas.

Well if you count yawning about 10 minutes ago when watching some musical thingy on itv I think. But with real tears i'd say when I was watching this documentary on Churchill's Bodyguard. Wasn't real crying more the sort of tear in corner of eye that you smudge away with your wrist. --------

I mean, people die etc, but 50 isn't quite old enough.

I was going to say something else but that got me
Before that: watched LotR with some friends around Christmas, and every single person in the room cried when Boromir died. It was cumulative like laughter or coughing
Hoshi no Koe got me, as did the endings of Fullmetal Alchemist, Azumanga Daioh, and Simoun. Simoun in particular, it made me for about two days for some reason

I think that almost every American will remember exactly where we were and what we were doing at that moment on September 11th. My grandmother lives in New Jersey (very close to New York city for the non-americans) and we were in constant contact with her as the day went on. More and more reports came in about people from her town that had died or were missing. It was one of the saddest things I've ever experienced.
The only thing that was stronger than my grief and my horror was dread. I didn't pity the dead, but I knew what an event of this scale will do to the people of a nation, the kind of irrational behavior it could spawn. I feared for the future of our nation.
Actually, I did cry once. It was for the single Pakistani family that attended our high school. They didn't deserve the treatment they got. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

Tar, it wasn't just the US that felt the unity on that, Britain, Canada, hell the EU and the anglosphere took it as a blow to all of us. I didn't realy understand it at the time but I think seeing my mother in such a weak state changed me. I can understand about the Pakistani families though, consoling a freind when I had to break the news to him that we had actualy bombed Baghdad is one of the most surreal moments of my life - he is Iraqi.

Originally by: Tarquin Tarquinius About 2 weeks ago, when I realized that I had really strong feelings for a girl who was already in a committed relationship. It was compounded by the fact that I was too much of a coward to tell her how I felt. Rejection is not nearly as bad as not trying.
..before that it was the ending to the movie Ray.
I feel for you, I ended up telling her though, and her father forbid me to ever talk to her again. Still have hope, she is going to college this spring, and the whole "you live under my house, my rules, argument falls apart"

Last time I cried was not long ago actually. It was when I realised I'd have to say goodbye to the girl I have loved (consiously or not) for the past 6 years in the not too distant future... This coming from a guy who is pretty much emotionaly dead on the outside.
