Just watched the xmas special and it was utter trash. With catherine tate joining for the next season, I think it will be one I have to miss.
Damn shame really. Granted it was never great, but it has become so generic and lackluster it's not even worth the effort any more.
Anyone one else watch it....anyone enjoy it?

it was generally ok, enough for someone who's sitting in front of the tv with absolutely no idea who dr who is to be able to watch it without been utterly bored on christmas day, but that 5 minute scene with the forklift and asterid was utter cheese tbh it would have been better if it had been the davaros return when max appeared but wouldn't have been right for the christmas day special. Sig removed as it lacks EVE-related content. Mail [email protected] if you have questions. -Hango

It was alright, there were some groan moments but it was pretty much perfect for watching when half asleep with family on the sofas. Plus Martha Jones is back about half way into the next season if I remember correctly, so hopefully Tate's influence won't be too painful.

Personally, I regard the new Dr Who as a light scifi show for kids. I did, however, watch this. Oh! The starship Titanic! That's So original Douglas Adams must be turning in his grave.

Futurama is a comedy, it parodies things from popular culture, so that doesn't count. I'm pretty sure Dr Who isn't supposed to be a comedya show.

Words can't describe how I feel about the new Dr Who. It's absolutely terrible, but in a confusingly innocent way. I wonder even if the writers have ever seen the original Dr Who in their lives

This is what I thought, I only watch it because my 9 yr old sister does and it's been one of those things we do together since it came back. It is a light sci-fi show for young kids - I have never thought otherwise tbqh.

Just watched the christmas special too and I think it was a good episode, not brilliant but still pretty good.
Also, I am really looking forward to the next season with Catherine Tate and I think she did a good job last christmas special. She did annoy me the first half of the episode but at the end of the episode I really hoped that she would come with the doctor. Seems I got what I wanted after all, only a year late.
I never did grow to like Martha on the other hand. Actually I was pretty relieved when she left in the end of the last season, was afraid that the doctor would change and she stick around.
All in all I think that doctor who is one of the best things that has happened to tv in years. Just the right mix of serious stuff and comedy. On the other hand I have never seen any of the original doctor who episodes or movies, perhaps if I had I would have felt different. (Probably similar to how I and all the other people I know who have seen the original Battlestar Galactica dislikes the new version.)
In the end there is only one more thing to say, I really really miss Rose... --- My other ship is a Reaper

While I FULLY support any Red Dwarf quote's and Billie Piper does indeed rule.
Chris Eccleston was a little static in the acting for me to like nor dislike him, he was Meh!.
Now i'll admit i'm a little geeky and sad but I like David as the doctor, so much in fact I'm going to see him live with good old Capt Picard in the theater next year.
Also, Take a look at "blackpool" with David in, ^_^ I'm a man, and only he could turn my sexuality...

Not Christopher Eccleston! He was the reason I stopped watching the 'new episodes' straight after the first one aired, was ages before I started watching again.
Like many of you I had to watch tonites episode (and the following 1 hour 'confidential').. I didn't think it was -that bad- until the flying angels thing. I'm sure someone said to me recently that both Martha and Rose will be back next season... though I doubt I'll last more than one episode with Catherine Tate, she is so annoying.

THe new Doctor Who series are good for introducing the young'uns to Sci-Fi. And i agree a lotof the storys are cheesy and a bit Clichaed [cant spell that].
Nether less it can be fun to watch.

That game was difficult as hell. I kept thinking about it during Dr Who because the ship looked so much like the one in Starship Titanic.

Christopher Ecclestone was a rubbish Doctor. ANYTHING to prevent him getting the part again. David Tenant is way better.
The scripts have been way too cringe-worthy recently, but its still watcheable trashy fun. ------

I have mixed feelings over the whole WHO revamp in the last few years. Whilst it is great too finally see it back on TV on a regular basis, i have several grumbles. Firstly being i miss the old formula. Basically one story over several weeks the new WHO follows the mainstream way of making TV it is lacking something. People can complain all they want that WHO is cheesy, but it ALWAYS has been and should be, however saying that I am glad for the CGI update, it looks awesome to see WHO finally with decent special effects, (for those who maybe think these effects are dodgy, go back and watch any BBC TV science fiction show from the mid 80's backwards!) One of the major things I am disliking about the new WHO however is the stupid invention of the timewar. This catayclismic event is only told in passing! WHY!, the new versions of the daleks are awful, and to think they could be wiped out at any moment!! They have taken some classic enemies and changed their evolution, eg the cybermen! Overall the acting is great, and I must say Tennant is probably going to rank up there with the greatest doctors of all time, but his assistants have been awful. But i think that has been mainly to do with the script writing at times. Basing every other episode around the assistants family is an idea that has to STOP here! I couldn't have cared less about billies mum, she was annoying and bought nothing to the show, as for billie herself, there have been a few duff assistants as time, but she rates right up there with the worst of the worst.....recalls the terrible adric! Martha Jones was strong, but utimately she was let down by her constant pining over the doctor...jeez love he's 900 years old he ain't interested in someone 870 years younger and of a different species.....personally i blame the 8th doctor for kissing when he didn't know who he was, and that innane script writer for the yankie version..
DOCTOR I remember who i am!
leans forwards and kisses her.
DOCTOR I am the doctor!
ASSISTANT
Great (BEAT) Do that again!.
WHY! Everyone must have been screaming at the tv for her to say....great...doctor WHO? and since that moment every assistant has decended into the ranks of love interest. even bringing back sarah jane had to have a romantic element too it ARGH! I dread next season with Cathrine (foul mouthed) Tate. Whilst I am sure the BBC will control the volume button on this loud mouthed idiot that is supposed to be a comedian, it is a dark turn in assistants, one that could have, and should have been avoided, several times in the TV special....which btw apart from the Kylie kiss, i found quite entertaining....great to see Bernand Cribbins back in WHO...
another small annoying thing about the new WHO is the DVD release, they are releasing them as ecclestone being season 1. tennant season 2 etc.....if this is the case, why or why could they have not made season 1 as hartnell, released what they have in a box set and done it that way....season 2 being 2nd year of hartnell and on and on. much better in my opinon, and would have kept the overall flow of the series to newcomers....

I don't think this was the worst episode, even if it wasn't the best. It had some cringbe moments, but overall I enjoyed it.
And I definitely like David Tennant and whatever Martha's real name is better than anyone else. Catherine Tate on the other hand, I've decided I'll give her a second chance. In the trailer at the end though, I noticed those thingies with the white spheres, I forget their names, but they were from The Impossible Planet, which I thought was one of the best of the new-Dr Who episodes.

The worst thing they did with Dr Who was to bring the whole family aspect in with the arrival of rose.
To me, the Dr was, always meant to be some kinda whimsical space dude, now he seems to be a schitzo dude on happy pills.
Granted, there have been some great episodes, they just seem to fluff things up a tad too much.
Wish they would actually get round to making some episodes about the time war. That would be freaking awesome on toast.

They were called the OOD.
I don't think Catherine Tate has the acting style to pull off an assistant roll. If she's just nagging about everything in the first two eps. I may contemplate not watching the rest of the series.

I recall the first episode I saw... black and white from the late '60s (Dr Who was fighting a satanic Demon with cloven hooves!).... very dark imagery and adult themes... then a few years of the BBC realizing 'omg...there's color! let's add some stuff!!!', then about 5 more years of story driven awesomeness (the Tom Baker years), then a few more years of 'okay' tv... then, ten years later, I saw some rebroadcasts of the crap from that scottish bastard (no offence to Scots, but the actor was 'pants')... that was broadcast on late night 'kid-tv' channels... then nothing for a long time..
Now, more 'OMG lets revitalize our advertising spots!' tv. Bah.
As a Canadian. I expect better from Britain. Not even bothering to download it, tbh.
