This is what I get when running more than 2 clients, usually if they are in the same system but it can be very random.
I have an ATI x1950 pro, its not the card as I have tried my spare x1950pro and it still has the same issue. Anyone else have this? ( I am using the latest ATI drivers ).

Yes I have seen it a few times while jumping threw systems using 2 accounts but on seperate comuters. It reminded me of an EverQuest east-west bug.

I get exactly the same, same card - X1950 Pro & Athlon64 Dual-core.
Never happens with just the one client running, i fire up the second, and if i dont get the white background thing on undocking (either client), then it'll turn up within an instance change or two.

Pure hypothesis:
The new graphics engine uses asynchronous resource loading combined with graphics resource caching. That's why sometimes, when undocking, parts of the HUD don't show up for a few seconds and/or models appear without textures temporarily.
Here, it seems that the texture for the skybox isn't loading - are any other textures affected? Could it be that the first client is using so much memory for its cache that the second doesn't have enough?
Just a stab in the dark.

Neg this has been happening for a while ive just had to " deal with it " hopign the new engine would fix it but it hasnt.

I will assume you updated your video card drivers? This looks like a driver / hardware compatibility issue to me.

I have tried the latest ATI, latest OMEGA drivers, and late drivers (both omega and ati ). All have the same issue.

Same here, latest Catalyst installed (released 18th Dec, or somesuch), still no joy. I stress, everything seems fine running a single client, for many hours at a time, tis only on running a second client that this white background thing kicks in. I looked at memory usage, and flipped around with the cache, but that makes no difference either.2 gig ram. Art |

Eheh, that problem have been for me since Catalyst 7.4 and up to now, and i'l guess it will never be fixed to.
I have a Radeon X1900XT card, and i'm using Catalyst 7.3 now, so i can play EVE.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAH
I have same issue, petition already running last 2 weeks. GM tried to help but NOTHING worked.
I dont think its card either, GF6600GT, newest drivers and get the same. And like you said: it happens 99% of the time while running 2 accounts. Also - it started around rev2 iirc (about june/july) so its NOT rev3 engine change fault. It has to be something older than that (yes i hoped rev3 engine would fix it but it didint). Plus im not sure if you using new GFX content but for me it happens all the time on old graphics.
What more: i tried changing cache size (from off to high) on both accounts - nothing happened. None of GFX options could fix this issue ingame. To fix it i usually need to close BOTH eve accounts, remove settings folder from damaged copy, launch it (new settings are created this time game works), copy back my old settings = fixed.
Id like someone from CCP to actually look into it because its VERY annoying bug which pretty much removes my ability to dual account. Ah... there are more dual account bugs (this time introduced with rev3). For example: when acc1 is in station and acc2 flies thru space and you look at the sun you get major FPS drop (to about 1fps). Looking at amarr station (the largest one - for ex in Neziel system) with both accounts at once will kill your framerate. Also if you play on one account for a bit (do soem msession changes) and launch another eve copy (other folder) whole system freezes for me and screen starts to flicker. Just some examples of what i found lately...

As for my experience you should never turn cache size off - normal is like the best for running two clients - but i also have 1.5 gig RAM for this. Get a memory watch program or do it over the windows program and check how much RAM they use - might be a solution. For the ones running on seperate pc`s - CCP needs to solve this issue

Tried all settings for cache: off/low/med/hi and didnt help. So guess thats not cache issue.
Memory watch... well i can see that my second eve copy starts getting fat (up to 700megs used) when this happens. But still its only diagnostic tool so doesnt actually help me fix the problem.
Separate PC - out of question. Im pretty much too poor to afford new GFX card here to run new GFX content. Not even starting to think abt second compy for 2 eve copies.

i would like to /sign this
It doesn't seem to be random.. it seems to be some kind of caching error..
i usually only get this on specific characters on an account..
this bug is also related across multiple client copies.. but is not limited to one a particular client.. i have 4 current client copies. i have had a character with the white background problem repeat this issue no matter which client i use..
Deleting machonet seems to alleviate the problem for only a short period of time.. i find that the white background will appear and disappear when jumping from system to system..
i run 3 clients on a daily basis with no problem.. when i load my 4th.. it either loads perfectly.. and then after i jump it just goes white.. or loads white..
occasionally when traveling with 3 accounts one will go white.. but after a few jumps reverts to normal
now as for the character specification.. once i clear the cache of a client.. and load the char that has problems.. it seems to fix it no matter which client i use..
i have not bug reported this because i can find no consistency with this issue..
i run an athlon 64 4000+ with 1.5gb ram and an ATI x1650 video card.. We don't sell, we help you buy. |

I currently have one character on this particular account suffering from this very problem right now.. and this character that does not (at least the last time i undocked)
If a GM or Dev would like to asses the issue further i would be more than happy to cooperate. We don't sell, we help you buy. |

Have you filed a bug report on this issue? We're keen to resolve issues that players are having with the Trinity engine.

Yes. Even 2 bug reports (one ages ago even before rev3, new one updated after rev3). Also had 2 petitions going for like 1,5 month total which didnt help me much.

Edited by: Enigma Crysis on 09/01/2008 17:06:49 there have been posts about this problem which are "almost" old as eve itself. no answers, no clues, no workarounds. "it comes, it goes"
eg: Linkage, Linkage
i have found some posts from 2003 as the problem occurs over here the first time, but cant find them anymore right now (and acutally dont want to).
.. and yes i have the problem too. The only workaround i found out myself:
Change the resoultion of the client where eve is normal ( = not the whitescreen client), after doing this, the whitescreen client will goto normal - at least over here. But only works with 2 clients. With 3 or more one is always white.
BTW,... i cant even play 2 clients anymore cause of the "graphic card stops while playing eve"-bug/crap/****
hope it helps

Simple workaround (works on my x1600 with the latest Omega drivers): - Launch all your clients - Undock them all - Go into the ATI control panel, 3D tab - Click "Compatibility", then change the top option to disabled. Press ok.
That'll cause your screen go to blank for a fraction of a second, but when it's done all clients should be running fine. I've had a client suddenly go white on me though, but redoing the above steps (Just switch it to enabled the next time) fixes it.

its not just realted to ATI gfx cards, its also low-budget Nvidia. The issue itsself is related to dynamic texture loading a new feture of the trinity engine, which sometimes does not happen properly when more than 1 client is loaded.

Its not a fix. But I have posted this in another forum and it helped in most cases.
But yeah, i didnt receive any answers by ccp yet.

mm after i have read this, and noticing my "workaround" above i have come to a simple guess: the "Compatibility" also causes the graphiccard to go blank for a fraction of a second like the resolution-change does on the client which is normal.
Conclusion: changing anything in the control panel which may cause this "short restart" does probably solve the "white light".

I'm having exactly the same problem since revelations 2. Filled a couple of bugreports, petitions - nothing, not even a single responce. Usually changing any graphics-related setting on the other client helps. I'll try the "reload driver" function from the Riva Tuner app, it should help too :)
