Edited by: Jimer Lins on 01/01/2008 21:04:18 EVE is a sandbox, all right. And the lowsec pirates have taken a giant steaming dump in the corner of it, and are amazed when the rest of the kids play in the other parts.
Edit: To clarify, piracy is a core part of EVE. But lowsec is overfished by a long shot at the moment. Too many predators, not enough prey.

the key problems i see with your post are pretty simple you dont want to play - eve cold harsh space you want to play - eve cold harsh space only if you want to pvp otherwise its all flowers and candy

And guess who survives those camps? People with scouts who see the camp ahead of time and dont lose all their goods. And waht do they do! Wait for the pirates to get bored and its safe to continue on? Ohh wow. Look. A new tactic. PATIENCE

Battleships should avoid battles all the time. Unless you're like the idiot with the honor tanked dread. In which case I'll just laugh at you.
And its impossible to catch a blockade runner properly fitted in lowsec. I always warp away before they can scram me. Always.

Blockade Runners with a brain will avoid going into certain death because any good gatecamp even without a HIC can catch and kill a Blockade Runner. The dumb ones go to their death. Smart ones stay back, watch for the predator to go away, THEN make their move. Simple law of nature put into EVE

The fact that the focused warp disruption has no counter module and completly invalidates the blockade runners bonuses is of course, completley silly, and needs to be fixed.
I don't expect it to be fixed anytime soon though, as CCP seem to have a grudge against making low sec have a healthy and thriving population. O.o

At this moment the situation in lowsec is not good around 0.0 where I live. There are tons of non-pirates (quite high sec status people) camping the choke systems. The typical gate camp consists of several battleships and a heavy interdictor. Although it is easy to scout the system and detect them, it is often impossible to avoid these as nearly all alternate routes are camped 24/7. They basically stop the traffic in such systems.
Also persuading allies to go help clear the way is quite hard, since it often implies alignment hit plus there is no immediate advantage of scaring off the campers. You can at least camp the gate for a while in 0.0 in these cases. Playing tags with flags is not for everyone.
I'm all for this scrambler to work as infinite strength device for tackling motherships and alike in lowsec, but I fail to see what is the advantage of having such scrambler working on all other ships. It only makes lowsec more empty.
But I hope that the current situation is more or less temporary and when these guys start to get red they will either stop or at least will be free to kill. People need to play with new toys for a while, and soon the lowsec will be even more deserted than it used to be. Not an ideal state for pirates...

i frequently fly a blockade runner through low-sec.
"being at the wrong place at the wrong time" is the nature of the beast that is blockade running.
i have no problem with that.
im concerned that the chances of my being in the wrong place at the wrong time has increased dramatically - with no commensurate increase in personal efficacy.
since my "personal efficacy" remains the same as before, i feel its possible that heavy interdictors are perhaps "not balanced".
interesting debate nonetheless. lets try and steer clear of the insults, though - it only detracts and distracts from the credibility of the argument.

You could maybe think of the WDF as balancing out the recent agility boost to Blockade Runners.
I think it's sort of a moot point though, as I believe Blockade Runners are actually less affected by these additions to the game than other ships are. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

it was my understanding that the "agility correction" of blockade runners was a result of a "patch mistake" by the devs.
however, even so, i still dont see that "agility correction" as justification for the presence (and possibly, its balance) of the disruptor. especially since this module affects all ships.
pinning the "blame" of its existance on the agility of the blocakade runner could be interpreted as "rationalization". especially, since the official, published dev texts point to super-caps as its raison d'etre.
a pirate's personal efficacy wasnt compromised by this "agility correction" - they could still gank the whole menu of ships as before. it just became more difficult vis a vis blockade runners - requiring sensor-boosting insta-lock setups. this was possible before, but not called for - hence, a pirate's personal efficacy remained "the same".
im not saying its "unbalanced" outright - only that without a comensurate change in personal efficacy its possible it is.

how long does it take a blockade to get into warp?
Surely not that long... I'm willing to bet it could still run most gatecamps. ôHe who must expend his life to prolong life cannot enjoy it, and he who is still seeking for his life does not have it and can as little enjoy it.ö

No, it was an intentional boost. All blockade runners got a roughly 2x agility boost(0.55x inertia multiplier).

Except not. My blockade runner is invulnerable outside of 0.0. Its called knowing how to fit a ship.

gamesguy,
you make a point of highlighting your skill in fitting your blockade runner. i would love to know how you fit it. if you dont want to give away your "secret" publicly, i understand - then perhaps send me an evemail with your setup...?
otherwise, i find it hard to give credence to your "anecdotal evidence". but that is my problem more than yours.

It was never a secret, it was posted on the 1st page(but image got removed by mod).
It was a viator
1x improved cloak II
1x 10mn MWD II 2x ECM Burst(best named)
2x Local Hull Inertia 1x Nanofiber II 2x Polycarbon rigs
Warps like an interceptor, impossible to catch without a dictor bubble, and even with a bubble, I can just burn back to the gate.
