In terms of profit, solo camping a low sec gate as opposed to a 0.0 gate is going to be much more lucrative, if that's your goal.
How often do you see haulers working their way through 0.0, compared to lowsec? And of the haulers you do see, how many of them do you think have loot worth grabbing?
If you don't like gate camping, yeah, it could be boring. But if you pick the right spot, you can pull tons of kills and it keeps it exciting.
Ever heard of October Snow? That's how you do it right.

why though? i'm just curious as to whats the point of staring at a gate for hours on end. day after day, week after week, month after month. what do they get out of it?

2bh gate camping is so boring to me now - i would really love to see low sec boosted and see corps move in then we could have some real fun with fights and a good time had by all. imagine mining op with defenders. pirates could rent space etc etc. atm pirating at gate camps in low sec is the only real way to make isk, also wt0 makes it even more boring.
So to sum up - low sec needs some love, carebear's (not all) needs some balls

QFT, that's what I always thought. I mean, statistics show that CS players are far more likely to either become terrorists or apply to police academy than other groups in society. The same goes for those who play Command and Conquer, as they generally make the best West Point graduates. Players of The Sims generally make good marriage councellors and Interior Decorators, and those who play WoW are best suited as Fantasy Authors or Berry Pickers.

The camping itslef mayb be boring, the fun comes from the people you are camping with on vent/ts when people are intoxicated and laughing at the stupid people who try and get there hauler through your gatecamp.
And just generally having a laugh thats where the fun is

It's because it's the place where we can find anyone to shoot. 95% of all the time the asteroid belts are empty of targets. Well maybe for you the asteroid belts have more targets, also the Veldspar.
It doesn't help to camp the station to, because you might get 2% lucky to insta kill a hauler with a sniper pest or something before it dock. I insta killed a hauler yesterday in my sniper pest because he was slow to dock, but omg it was boring as hell. Well i was bored anyways then.

Personally, I'm not sure of the intentions of the people gatecamping I've met. Usually when I go into lowsec, I'm mission running, so I'm usually decently tanked. I've met alot of people sniping the gates, and I just sit there and tank it comfortably. In most of the cases, they won't stop shooting, and they won't respond in local. Sometimes I think they're macros or something.

Hehe, the interplay between these two "types" is what makes these forums so entertaining. It reminds me of the Mongoose Joke. There are loads of variations of this joke but IMHO the best one is is this rather long one by Aleister Crowley (it's the way he tells 'em):

But just because you don't see the purpose doesn't mean there isn't any.
- It can be giving a blow to your enemeny or whoever that comes through. Either financially by destroying their implant clone, their ship or just tactically to prohibit to go to their hometurf. - For fun if its a frequently used gate, for kb stats whatever.
