I have read up about drones and how they now have the assist and guard option however both these options don't do anything, I tell my drones to assist someone or guard someone and they just sit there and orbit the individual, even when he is being shot or is shooting somthing else, he has no control over them and it thus doesn't do anything. Fix required maybe?
why?

Also, the 'focus fire' option doesn't always work - sometimes 1 of my drones will wander off and attack a different target. ======

it's a shame that ccp don't fix drones once and for all!! years have passed and they are yet broken!!
it is so frustrating...

Well... /signed
I was extremely disappointed to see all kinds of drones behave "weird" after Trinity. Focused fire or not, they keep spreading out and attacking multiple targets, even if I order one single target specifically.

My drones will focus fire 9/10 times, and they will usually go for targets that are close to you = scrambler frigs = yay!
Also, if i choose the guard option on my friend, the drones will assist his drones.
But i have to agree, drones are not perfect yet. If i order my 5 T2 heavies to engage a target 50km away, they will disengage and attack another rat, but will usually stay together..

Couple quit PvP questions. Can Large Drones be assigned to say Ceptors and can you assign more then 5 Drones to say a Ceptor?

I've only used Trinity drones on ratting so far, and I haven't seen those Guard / Assist options. I take it you need to lock a player to get them to show up?

Focused Fire: I keep this option on. If instruct my drones to attack a specific target, they do so together just like before Trinity. Afterward they continue to attack in a group whether instructed to do so or not and that's the difference. Before Trinity and focus fire they would have eventually gone to seperate targets.
Agressive/Passive: I don't really see a difference in the drones behaviour when I use one or the other of these and therefore keep it set on agressive. The drones actually seem less agressive than before Trinity. Before Trinity drones would attack anything that I'd shot at, structures, enemy ships or turrets. Presumably this was taking into account their ability to lock 8 targets simultaneously. Now, even if a turret is firing at me, they won't attack it even if I'm firing at the turret as well and they've been fighting other enemy. If I tell them to specifically shoot it, they will. Otherwise not.
I don't know about the other features the OP discussed. Guarding or Assisting would seem to be commands for Fighters rather than regular drones and I can't find the command for regular drones. Also, I've never heard of any such feature than didn't require the one being loaned drones to be able to fly them.
On whole I appreciate CCP finally giving us hot key ability for some of the drone activity and the focus fire thing is nice if you know how to trigger it. However, the agressive/passive thing doesn't work from what I can see and the drones seemed better before Trinity than now in this regard.
It would be appropriate for these changes to be written up in a guide by a competent writer so that pilots know what to expect and how to use the changes.

Personally, I like the new drone AI stuff, better than what it used to be at least.
95% of the time focus fire works and when it doesn't it's either a 4/1 or 2/3 split as to what they're shooting at. I've never seen my "focus fire" drones go after more than 2 targets. The problem is that once they split up like that they stay like that until you order otherwise.
I like "guard." I just set my alt's 5 Hammerheads to guard my dominix while my drones are out popping small fries too and we just blow up the battleships with guns.
Likewise I've assigned my drones to assist my alt and they attack whatever she attacks. This worked awesome using sentry drones against battleships as I didn't have to keep tabbing back to my client to reassign them to the next victim.
All in all mission running has become much easier even though drones have become weaker.

Guard and Assist, both work for me.
But the damn drones still "disobey orders". And we're not talking slowpoke Ogres travelling 50km, but sentries sitting right next to me. They will attack the target I tell them to attack for 1 second, before switching to some other target they think it's better to shoot at. I have to tell them to attack, and once the symbol goes onto the locked target, I have to tell them again, at least once, or they will just switch to something else. This is not rare at all.
Sometimes just 1 or 2 stay on the target I designate, which is even worse because you won't notice from the symbol, unless you scroll your mouse over it after wondering why that rat is still alive. The other way to notice is if they're attacking another target you have locked, of course, but often this is not the case.

As many gang members as you want can assign drones to guard or assist you. It doesn't matter which type of combat oriented drone you use.
Personally, I've developed a penchant for assigning sentry drones in a tanking domi to help an astarte or mega to shoot at targets. That way both my domi pilot alt and I are shooting at the same thing which naturally makes things a lot quicker.
I've noticed split allegiencies occasionally with the drones but on the whole, they are very well behaved now, specifically the 'focus fire' aspect of the new commands.
Occasionally I have noticed that they get bored and shoot their own stuff but only usually if I've not shot something quickly myself after the last target blew up.

1st: yes you can assign drones even to ships whit no drone bay 2nd: no you cant assign more than 5 drones.
its not really asigne as the the person who gives you the drones still has control over them... they just take your targets instead of hes/hers.
its not the same as fighter control. the guy giveing you the drone control (well sort of) has to be in the same grid as you ---------------------------------- Seems that there's a new game that seems to be very popular whit whiners these days. Its called EFT Online.
