so what do we need to make this happen?
We should be able to accept public contracts without being in the same region.
The "packages" that drop from courier missions need to have mission details ( origination station, destination station, date received) availble by right-clickin on the packages. it could be the "name" of the packages much as "set name " works on cargo cans, but it would need to be automatically named with this information and not be changeable.
The addition of COURIER TRANSFER MISSIONS, whereby existing Courier Mission Packages can be compiled and transfered to another player. There will be one new "big" package that actually contains all the smaller packages. This new TRANSFER MISSION would have it's own collateral and reward, totally separate from the individual ( but still intact ) courier missions inside it. ( so if the big transfer package got blown up, the 2nd agents collateral would presumably be enough to cover the cost of paying out all the little shipments individual collaterals ) It would also have it's own separate destination.
That's it. It would take some coding but I dare not guess how much or little. If you do this you could cut A large amount of traffic from jita because anyone who could plan a couple days in advance could get their stuff to and from the major market hubs very cheaply. This would also provide people who want to 'haul freight' for a living with a job.

Here's a sample day in the life of a shipment.
Quote:
Random Player has remotely bought something in Hedion. They want it in Aeddin, so they can play with their new toy. They check a "LTL (Less than truckload) freight companies'" in-game website (let's call them New Eden Freightlines or NEF) and plug in their m3, the origination system and the destination system. The value of their freight is under 1 billion isk, the m3 is within acceptable ranges, and bargain-rate 7-day delivery time is acceptable. He's a cheapskate. They receive a freight quote. They remotely make a contract to NEF with the collateral they desire and using the freight quote that they received for the reward amount, and putting the 7 DAY delivery request into the comments.
NEF has a pickup driver swinging through Throne Worlds and he is monitoring corporate contracts. He picks up the freight bringing it back to the shipping hub at Amarr prime in time for the loads going out that evening. If the P/U driver worked for NEF he would just drop them into the appriopriate corporate hanger at the end of his work day, however, if our guy had called in sick we would have to find someone to do that for him. ( Our agent in Amarr would have to accept all the missions in the constellation and make a TRANSFER MISSION at each station where there were pickups to be made. Then we could employ anyone to pick up the freight for us in Throne Worlds.
Now that our happy shipment is in Amarr (if we had a non-employee picking up the freight we would have to accept the TRANSFER MISSION, which would dump all the nice original courier packages onto our hanger floor) That TRANSFER MISSION WOULD BE COMPLETED and that guy will get his reward and his collateral back. Our agent looks over the 300 shipments that are sitting waiting to head out to parts all across New Eden. He has 50 shipments sitting on the dock destined for some part of Molden Heath. Some of them are getting close to the requested delivery date. He calls up a freighter pilot and setups up another TRANSFER MISSION for those 50 packages so that they can be taken to molden heath. Our freighter pilot accepts that transfer mission which works exactly the same as the other transfer mission. When he completes it, he gets paid and gets his collateral back and our agent in Gelfiven now has the 50 courier packages. If he has a company employee to deliver the freight, great, all they have to do is drop off the original courier packages and complete those missions... again, if one is not available, TRANSFER MISSIONS could be made for each station which could be remotely accepted by the agent in Gelfiven. and then he could remotely complete each courier mission. and our cheapskate in Aeddin will be very happy he didn't have to go thru the hell of jita, or in fact didn't have to disrupt his day at all to get what he wanted.

bah. I'm not whining, i've offered a suggestion that would not only fix the problem in jita but also fix the problem with hauling as a profession. it would 'fix' logistical problems of many kinds that exist in eve. --

All they need to do is allow concord to transport items from main hubs like Jita to anywhere in empire for a fee.... All jita problems solved.

back in 04-05 I remember some gm/dev mentioning that they're against any kind of automated item moving.
Could be wrong, plus the direction of eve has changed dramatically since then.

Interbus will start ferrying packages to begin with. They won't go into the people moving business because of the low prices on shuttles currently - they simply cannot compete. We expect the Space Trucking division of Intebus to get into gear hopefully this month, but no later than January-February

This guy is right.
If they nerf Jita, people will move to another system and do the same there. If they boost Jita, more alts will just come there. This is just how social dynamics work, it hasn't anything to do with Eve. Solving this willl require another game feature then just fixing jita. Jita is not broken. -----------------------------------------------

The only fix Jita needs is a forum filter that stops these threads from being posted.

Jita-Fix: - use faction standing for all costs including docking (Jita is a Caldari-System) - Change "agression system" * let the sentries do the job to peoples with security state under -5 * let the faction police attack all peoples with faction standing under -5 * let caldari friends (standing > 5) fire to Gallente/Minmatar (give us factional warfare; it is delayed since 1 year now) ==> we will get some more trade hubs

Put simply, having agents feed through from player missions would be awesome. Being able to tell me I need 10mil hydrogen isos in a 0.0 system, and having a bunch of missions generated:
deliver to first highsec deliver to 0.0 entry deliver all the way to 0.0
Would be totally awesome.
Ditto a 'I need a raven + fit' mission, where you set up the request, and our agent creates courier (trade) missions to fill it. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |
