Since people can't claim it's santa coming to give them their eve christmas present anymore the two remaining theories are that it's either the eve gate, or the binary star that is supposed to be in the systems according to some canon fiction somewhere on the site.

My guess is that it's a supernova off in the distance (Jovian space) which will lead (finally) to some Jovian events / story lines.
Their home system blown up or something.

Breaking news from reporters you have manged to arrive at the newly discovered star can be found HERE or is it HERE.

I was told it wasnt the eve gate, but who knows. Some say its a bugged comment, and others say its a event. From what i can tell its in a similar spot everywhere i go.
Here is a link to a long thread about the star. Star in the North

pretty sure it's just to keep the fiction in check with every system needing to be a Binary system to enable jumpgates to function (or something)

Well, if it's the binary star, then they were lazy and gave it the same orientation in respect to the local map in every system I've bothered to check.
If it's supposed to be the EvE gate, that would be cool, but they're still as lazy since it's not orientated towards the EvE system as far as I can figure.
It could be their Christmas easter egg (wow, those three words together really seem... odd) which they haven't taken down yet since it seems most of the company is away.
Hopefully CCP might say something about it. Until then it's just guessing.

Which would have happened years ago. Light only travels so fast! Then there is the fact that all of EVE can see the star, which would make little sense in regards to everyone being able to witness the event at the same time.
But of course, I'm comparing real life mathematics to an online spaceship game. It could be anything.

It can't be the eve gate, all the cans in space would hide it.

Ok it is a reference point think of it as 12oc or 360degrees...or North..it is always in the same place..so if u need to Aline to some ones safe spot<or any place you dont have eyes on and have no vis on this ..they just say go due east of the star or 90degees or 3oclock of the start ...works for us anyway..

Maybe it was something to do with a warp experiment then?

Er... the star at Jesus birth stayed guided the wise men to Jesus. Jesus was already born when this happened (some believe it could've been as long as 3 years after his birth), ergo, it stands to reason if this star is to do with Christmas, it could be a while before it goes away. Also we're still withing the 12 days of Christmas, so it technically could still be considered Christmas. If its still there in 6 days, then i'd properly start questioning why its there.
