Edited by: Stitcher on 31/12/2007 02:26:57 As a matter of fact, there's been rather lengthy discussion on this very topic right HERE
Looks like the attendance will be characteristically mixed between state faithfuls, Gallente sympathizers, wanderers like myself, and outright enemies of the State who still wish to attend and make a statement for whatever reason. Should be interesting, though I hope the guns stay silent this time. A war memorial is not an appropriate place for a battle. -

Unless someone decides to launch a wardec, all should be quiet. The memorial takes place in hisec; any fighting will likely bring CONCORD to join the ceremony.
I don't believe anyone with an active wardec against anyone else planning to be present has stated a desire to turn up. That isn't to say that there might not be such a situation.

You're probably right, but I don't think I need to remind you of all people about just how cavalier some capsuleers can be when it comes to the lives and safety of their ships and crew...
Still, here's hoping. -

2007.12.31 16:58 The Star Fraction has declared war on Caldari Independent Navy Reserve. After 24 hours fighting can legally occur between those involved.
Lets hope they come.

APEX would like to call for peace at the memorial. Lets leave the fighting at the door while we remember the events of the past. _____________________________________

Would you expect anything less?
Lets not forget that CAIN already stated it wasn't going to attend.

Indeed. We made our intentions to boycott this farce well before the Star Fraction decided it needed to engage in its characteristic publicity blitz. The Reserve will mourn the dead in its own way, while we take care of other business that requires our attention, and allow puppets, pirates, charlatans, and anarchists to grandstand at an event that is supposed to celebrate a cause they they do not, perhaps could not, understand.
Too few among the pod pilot community remember the obligation we have to those who came before us, and what we owe them for their sacrifice. It is a shame that a ceremony that once reminded us of that fact has been hijacked by those who would have us leave it all behind. -- CAPT Svetlana Scarlet CAIN Chief of Diplomatic Staff

Appropriate that you to choose to hide your faces from this evening's events Svetlana. After all you have made your choice clear this past year that your guns serve the Caldari State and the not the Caldari people. I think we don't need lectures from a bloody-handed murderess of her own people slain in the process of protesting for greater freedoms and independence from State legislature at this juncture.
You are State. You are not Caldari.
Never forget that.

As much as I dislike CAIN, this is borderline stupidity. I fully understand the point Star Fraction were making last year, but does it really need to be made again this year? The Fraction speaks less for the Caldari people than even CAIN, because quite simply, they fight against every standing government.
Come to respect the so-called revolutionary fervor that our ancestors had, but we don't need lectures from the Fraction any more than we need them from CAIN.

Yes it does Kyoko Sakoda. And it will continue to be made year after year until the point sinks home. Listen to me when I tell you. CAIN stand for the STATE not the PEOPLE. This is a memorial of the independent striving of the Caldari PEOPLE and as such we understand the principles and message at stake. We'll continue to fight this cause in space, in words, and in conflict and debate, and we will never be silenced as long as the ideals demand and freedom expects.

Ms. Constantine, I full well understand that CAIN does not represent the Caldari people. I have said so myself many times. I understand you want to pay your respects to the strong-willed spirits of the fallen. I do not contest this.
However, I expect that you will be reflecting upon the ceremony and not using it to further your corporation's agenda. This is why your war declaration rubbed me the wrong way.

A few words I spoke at the Memorial today. Perhaps those embroiled in their bitter feuds and petty grievances could spare a moment to listen to them here.
Caldari Prime. Gallente Prime. Two worlds sharing the same sun. Yet both worlds could never be more different. Gallente Prime, a lovely garden world, a paradise. Caldari Prime, a harsh world. Unforgiving.
We Caldari were forged by 20,000 years of hardship and sorrow on this world spinning below us. It has shaped us, and continues to shape us to this very day. We are mocked as cold, efficient, ruthless and worse by others, little understanding that we are this way by necessity. We the sons and daughters of the Raata men learned on an instinctual level to cooperate, to sacrifice to the common good, to obey our leaders, because fail to do would mean dire consequences for us all.
When faced with a power, the Gallente, who could not possibly understand our ways, conflict was inevitable. Their lives were easy, their world forgiving and bountiful. We were alien to them. They did not understand that we would look with suspicion upon their concepts of freedom and choice. We rebelled against it as only we could.
Ultimately, we made the ultimate choice to adhere to our ways, through that uniquely Caldari ethic: sacrifice. We sacrificed our world in order to remain true to ourselves. If we carry anything forward with us into the year 110, let it be this: We are Caldari, to remain true to ourselves and our ways is the ultimate tribute and show of respect for those who died below us.

What I don't understand is why you didn't distance yourself from it, if you have such distaste for the guests.
