Link for the Americans in the audience. To open, move the mouse over and hit the left button to open. Sheer comic genius.

Not being American (but Swedish) I am getting a bit sick and tired of the european US-bashing going on. Since it was on that film, how many euros know where Kentucky is?
We had this television quiz show where the audience was battling a single contestant and in that show, FIVE out of one hundred members of the audience couldn't answer what European city was divided by a wall up until 1989. FIVE. The alernatives were something like Stockholm, Berlin, Paris or Madrid. I say again; FIVE out of one hundred!
To sum it up; the world is filled with people who just doesn't care for anything else than the block they live on. Not just the US.

Aye it's old but funny/scary still.
Of course you could get the same results in any country but the fact these people in the video could go and buy a gun LEGALLY, terrifies me __________________________________

yeah, its a pretty darn shocking video (im from europe, but as far as i could stand it, i could answer all the interviewers questions without a problem) but its not really surprising.
you see such videos in generic funny style shows around the globe. im not sure, the first show i saw that contained such flicks was "trigger happy tv" but im pretty sure the concept is a lot older.
here is how it goes: you pick some really stupid questions and then you get some hundred people to try to answer them. videotape their answers.
now you got two things on your side: 1) tv cameras are making a lot of people a bit nervous. joe average isnt really used to talking to maybe millions of people.
2) maths is on your side. if you ask 100 people these questions, chances are, you will find 80 average people, 10 exceptionally smart and 10 exceptionally stupid.
thats all you need for such a video.
oh and i still think the states got an unnatural high concentration of mentally challenged folks.

I think most people realise that a lot of people got the answers but they were not included.
As I said in my previous post, you'd get similar results in any country but it's just a bit of **** taking fun. __________________________________

I have a theory that I think might explain some of the differences, and it's from the aftereffects of WW2. Europe had to rebuild and redefine itself from it's ruins then live through being the front line of the Cold War. The US public never experienced that so it created a different mindset leading to a lesser need for intelect in the US than in Europe. Point in context- Japan, look at how demanding their education system and look where the most advanced technology on Earth comes from. The EU is increasing it's demand on the education system, whats the US demands doing? - putting in how god created the world and Evolution is wrong.

That video was shot in either Florida or California, both of which have dangerously high levels of stupid people. I would have gotten most all those questions, as would most of my friends. The only one I had no idea on was "Coalition of the Willing" What is that? Some cool kids' club the Euros invented and didn't tell us about?
By far, the greatest concentration of intelligent, educated people in the US are in, you guessed it, New England.
The above was way too serious a response for a video that I indeed found humorous. ----- TANSTAAFL

It was a not-as-subtle as he wanted it to be jab at the countries in Europe that wanted to give the weapons inspectors in Iraq more time to search from GWB. Problem is, after all that rhetoric that about France and Freedom Fries (rotflmao - why? ) it turned out they were correct. Coalition of the Willing gives Brits a deadpan look though. So yea, it is a club the US started and claims other people are in - only thing Britain is in is NATO.

Once you leave the Coasts and head inland, you get to the breadbasket area of our country. Most of this land was settled by people who forsook the centers of learning and population, hardy souls who valued things like work-ethic, practical knowledge, and family loyalty. Their descendants are good people, but they have a disappointing mistrust of education and the educated. But there are more of them than there are coastal dwellers. That's how we end up with Presidents like Bush.
The Chicago-Detroit axis is a notable exception to the "Coastal Dwellers are Smarter" rule.
Besides, a country composed entirely of smart people isn't necessarily a good thing. Look at Germany. They're all too smart to work at McDonaldBurgers, so they're all unemployed. Mindless drones have their place. ----- TANSTAAFL

Edited by: Avery Fatwallet on 31/12/2007 14:13:28 ok i have to admit i didnt know who participates in the "coalition of the willing".
but i remotely know WHAT it is and i VERY CLEARLY remember the sickness i felt when i saw that chimp on tv puke out the words "coalition of the willing" for the first time.
sorry to all the chimps out there. let me apologize by saying he only reminds of the real ugly chimps.

This is not a problem unique to Germany, much of Western Europe is like this. It's a strong reason we let Eastern Europe in, many of them are smart as their Western counterparts but need the jobs. It's the only reason we still are considering Asian Turkey as an applicant to fill in the low paid jobs. I know people will say Turkey is part European blah blah - rubbish. They have a small enclave in the south-east, France has more territory in South America than Turkey has in Europe.

Amusing but how many people who got the questions right were edited out?
If I went to my local town centre and asked the same questions I dread to think of the answers I would get.

I've seen that before but it's funny, it's easy to see why they voted in a halfwit like George Bush. It is just another stereo type though, people in Britain are supposed to be highly intelligent but if I asked the same questions in my town centre I'd probably get similar answers. _______________________________________________ EVE is dying, we are all doomed...

Maybe it's because I'm in Edinburgh and most of the city is based around the University, but I would say that Brits hold their own when it comes to intelects, and generaly outperforms for innovation. Look at our record so far, Fourth Rail bridge, the London Underground and Steam engines are good examples, but Steven Hawking is by far our current top intelect.

I actually wonder if some of those people were in fact answering different questions, and the video was edited to make them look stupid.
Anyway, if you ask enough people to name a country beginning with U, you're going to find some people who can't think of one. In fact, the first one that popped into MY head when I heard that was Uganda.
It doesn't matter what country you're in, there are going to be dumb people there. I'm thinking of some of the trolls who I went to secondary school with. *shudder* --------------------------------------------------------------------

If you guys think those results are "typical" then you're not so bright either. They probably asked hundreds of people those questions, but only showed the ones who were complete morons.
The American comedian Jay Leno does the same thing. If all Americans were that clueless we wouldn't get the joke.
...and another thing, geography and history is completely useless knowledge for most people and in no way is it an indicator of intelligence or lack there of.
