Why why why are these dropping from manufacturing and storage agents? They require huge quantities of ore which take a long time to mine and give little reward compared to actually just doing conventional mining. They spawn rats on you - disproportionate to the level of the mission (Battleship spawning on me from a Lvl 1 agent).
Can these please be relegated to just "mining" division NPCs?

I dont know what agent you use but mine give me like 2M and 3000 lps for mining missions i can afk. Great success!
Anyway, its like if missions are diversified ppl troll and if they arent ppl troll.
You can refuse a mission every four hours you know?
Oh well, maybe restricting these to mining agents would be a good compromise if everyone thinks mining missions sucks. I LOVE THEN! |

The bigger problem is that the skills they require are so specialized that only the miners want them. Lvl 4 mining missions are either impossible or so excessive for non miners that they are a complete waste of everyone's time. Almost every courier mission giver already gives kill missions and now they give insane amount of mining ones as well.
On top of that they plain old suck, but even this is irrelevant because no matter how good they are all these missions are FOR MINERS. Nothing is going to change that.
If they made kill mission givers give exploration +hacking/archeology missions people would be fuming, what's the difference.

Miners? I got mining at 4 which took me a total of two days to train to. I fit my Battleship with 8 t2 mining lasers and voila 700 m3/cycle! In what universe would that make me a miner? Sure i wasnt able to do the one where they asked me to mine ice and that is why i refused it!
Anyway, it was a couple of millions and 3000 lp's in half an hour afk mining. And it costed me two days training to get that mining proficient. |

Train mining upgrade 1 or 2 too (if you haven't already done it), you should be capable of adding at least 2 mining upgrades or even 3.
A rokh wit 8 mining Laser II and 3 upgrade mine more than 800 m3/minute and can tank pratically any NPC swarm.

The best you can do without calculating mining implants on a non-ORE ship is a Rokh. 8 Modulated Deep Core Mining Laser II's work best but its skill-intensive and needs crystals which need processing skill themselves. For myself (as a miner) that isn't a problem and my Rokh mines 3700m3 every 3 mins, not including mining drones and mining implants.
Even at lvl 5 Electronics and a T2 CPU booster you will need a +3% CPU output implant (slot 6) if you want to use 4 Mining Laser Upgrade II's, but you only be able to equip the mining lasers, a survey scanner and the low slots (4x MLU II, 1xCPU II).
Currently with normal miner II's I mine 1050m3 a minute, though I do use Astrogeology (V), not calculating mining drones (which are cheap and require little skill) and mining implants.
Naturally though a Rokh is far more expensive then a Retriever (but far more tankable).
Using just Mining at 4 and 8 Miner II's you will get 60m3 x 8 x 1.2 = 576m3 a minute Any (battle)ship with good CPU and plenty turret slots can be used for mining.
I do agree that even for me the mining missions aren't really worth it since you rarely get other ore types other then the one you are ordered to mine and if you miss a single unit of ore the mission is failed since there is always the exact same amount of ore in the encounter site as what you need to complete the mission.
For those not into mining its even less worth it.

Another little point that can bother people: when your mining laser or mining drones don't deposit the ore because the hold is full the ore is not really lost in space.
Mining the asteroids you will get the full amount even if you get several messages that the ore was lost.
Instead the use of mining drones in a mining mission is dangerous as, if the drone is destroyed, its cargo is destroyed too, so you will lose the mineral. And a good percentage of the NPC love to target the mining drones.

Simply don't send your mining drones to asteroids more then 5km away or so and they will be fine if you watch for rats and send them back in when they arrive.

Edited by: Cyberman Mastermind on 02/01/2008 06:14:46 It's a bit annoying that some of them seem to come twice in a row. I declined one mission because I don't own a gas harvester, asked for the next one: He wants to mine gas...
Limit them to mining agents, why not, it's what they're for. But then please give us MORE mining agents, currently there's so few I fear sooner or later griefers/pirates are going to invade those systems. -------------------------------------------------- I'm a rich person. How I know? I can afford to be a miner. |
