Edited by: The Passenger on 31/12/2007 23:44:32 Make me a Sig. Rules: 1) MUST be useable here on the Eve Forums. 2) Must include name: The Passenger 3) Must include photo. (Linked at the bottom of this message) 4) Must include my favorite ship: Absolution 5) I'm looking for a "break-away" sig. That is to say, it really pops out at you. Some sigs have a ship that looks like it's breaking out of the Sig. Good stuff. 6) Lastly, 50 Million bonus if you incorporate the poem. 7) This contest will go until next weekend (Sunday), or someone just blows my mind. Good Luck!
Poem: Within his Absolution, across the universe he flies. His lasers flair- three seperate pairs- and another Pirate dies.
Portrait:
Here's a sweet shot of a moon:

The 'moon' pic link at the bottom of your post is broken? I'm getting a 404 error. Do you have any particular colour preferences? I'll make an entry soon, looking forward to seeing other entries too.
Edit: query... Also - in your poem... a possible spelling error? Do you mean 'lasers flare'?

And as for colors... surprise me. If I see a Sig I really like, but with a different color, I'll say so. For right now, I'd just like to see what folks come up with.
I will say that I've been impressed with some sigs that have chrome in them. Some are snazzy. ___________________________________________ Signature artists! Let me pay you 200 Million ISK! (Maybe 250) http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=672800 |

Reserving a spot for myself to enter, right here. Hopefully you keep this contest going the full length, as there can always be a better sig and some of us might not have time to make one until near the deadline
Hope to get an entry in though

I'll keep this one going at LEAST until Saturday. I just found out I have an out-of-state school to attend starting Sunday, which lasts for a week. If there seems to be enough interest, I'd be willing to extend this until my class is over and I get back. I'm not expecting to have internet access where I'm going. ___________________________________________ Signature artists! Let me pay you 200 Million ISK! Here's my try:
I think the greatest obstacle was the transparency -the file size limitations stopped me from using a format which better suits the transparency and I spent a lot of time getting rid of little white specks.
I couldn't think of a way to include the poem properly. -----

Included the poem, portrait (blended anyway) and Absolution - is this what you mean by 'chrome'? I thought of doing an Amarr colour-based one, maybe a gold one if you don't like these colours. Is the ship 'pop-out' enough? Heh, hope it's good enough for ya. I'm not completely sure about the font I've used for the poem, I chose it because it was simple and very clear, tell me if you want to try something else.
Don't hesitate to give me a shout if you want anything tweaked or edited, looking forward to seeing more entries.

Edited by: Kriger on 02/01/2008 23:07:53 An entry from me:
This is a bit of a 'take it or leave it' sig - i managed to screw up royally when i was about to make the preview version - long story short i overwrote the source psd file (mental note.. keep fingers off ctrl-s in photoshop when the clock gets past 23.00 several hours work lost). Since i dont have time to do it over, this the only version i can offer (obviously without the sample watermarks). I purposely did _not_ have the absolution stick out quite as much as u asked. This would force me to use a .gif, which quite frankly tends to look quite horrible due to its poor compression scheme. it was my intesion to offer to alter the sig if u insisted (it would have been a minor change), but given the above, thats no longer possible.
cheers from a slighly annoyed Kriger.

Damned unlucky on the overwritage... the thing I tend to do is save in a completely random place and forget where I put it when I need it. :\ Thank god for recent items...
I like the lighting you've got there, I've never been able to quite grasp them as well as other EVE-GFXers although I think in this sig it's a bit better... what font are you using for the poem if you don't mind me asking? I like clean pixel fonts, only got a few atm though... I'm using VISITOR for mine.
I wish the filesize limit was a bit higher otherwise I'd use PNGs for transparency instead of GIFs. The compression is atrocious.

The ligting is really just a question of fidling with the items to give them the same tone and brightness, and then using a few blendings with flares or something to make the different parts of the sig seem more conected.
As to the font.. *opens ps to see if he can find it* think it was a pixel/bitmap font called "04b03".

Really like the dynamic shape of that sig there, you've really got the ship popping out. One problem I can forsee is the filesize, I can see alpha soft edges there, I take that it's a PNG-24 file? The filesize is way too big for these forums, whether that's intentional or not - either way for it to be EVE-O compliant you'll have to export it in GIF format optimized to <24kb. That might totally nerf the edges so if I were you I'd experiment a little with that.

Yeah, the first two I tried to upload were gifs, and I didn't like the edges - they look nice in save for web but then they get completely buggered up, I'll have to play around with the dither and such until I get it. With Gif it's easy enough to get it under 24kb, I've just not had much luck with the whole pixelation buggery. PNG-8 is Worse, not surprisingly enough. ------

I think to some extent you could try and sort out the bad edges you would get from a GIF or PNG-8 by opening the file itself (not the PSD or layered file) and getting rid of or editing the pixels you don't like. That takes a lot of time and effort though, and the pixels won't be at all dynamic... more like MS Paint.
I wanted to use PNG-24 but got a file size of 30KB. -----

Kalen Vox- Nice! I really like the look. If I had to change anything on it: Make the face less transparent (IE: More visible), and give the ship more of a right-tilt (so you can see the other wing, and thus the shape of the ship). Great entry.
Jaerl No, the chrome effect I was referring to is the actual metal look- think sci-fi, or Ford pickup trucks. lol. I think the blue is completely killing that pic. The words are hardly viewable, like the blue kinda bled into the whole thing.
Kriger Hate it. I mean... holy ****, why would you even TRY to enter that crap? Feel better? lol. I see where you were going with it... kewl thought. I would have put my name first, and THEN the poem instead of splitting it. But then, I don't know the total of work you lost. Sorry to hear about that. :(
Fallen I like the face in the moon effect... really kewl. But like Jaerl's, there's too much color bleed- in your case, the red. Also, as pointed out, the file size is WAY too big.
DonSailieri Too much going on. I can't tell what that is behind the ship, and that's important too me. I like clear pictures as opposed to the Picasso effect. Also, the name looks like it's part of the Poem, instead of my character name. Otherwise, good effect keeping the moon dark (very sharp) and putting the poem over it. The ship looks really good too, but the Amarr gold has turned silver. :)
Patch86 Man, that's the ****! I almost chose yours right away! ROFL. P.S. You've got a sweet sig.
Ok folks, there's my feedback so far. Sorry it took so long, but I've been busy getting ready for this stupid class. It's going to last through next Friday (the 11th), so I'll extend this thing until the 13th to give you creative types some time to work. (Real Life tends to get in the way for everybody.) Great job, overall... and I appreciate the work. ___________________________________________ Signature artists! Let me pay you 200 Million ISK! Unfortunately im unable to reorder anything in the sig. But let me put it this way - if u should decide that my sig is actually the one u prefer, ill do the sig all over again to accomodate any changes u may want. But as im sure u can understand, i dont feel like doing the all that work twice to display a minor change, if its not rly a sig to your taste anyway. But suffice to say having your name on top and the poem below wouldnt have been a problem at all.

Unfortunately, I'm working from a 2D image of an Absolution, as I don't actually have one in game, so there is nothing I can really do about that. Also, since that version is a non-layered PNG-8, I cannot change the opacity of the face -however, I could go back to the layered file, create a new PNG-8 and then clear out the white dots again. I'll see what I can do. -----

Ok, I'm heading out for school. Here are some things I'll leave you all with:
I REALLY like Kalen's layout: It's clean, crisp. (P.S. Wrong tilt, Kalen. The objective was showing the wingspan and thus the bird-like shape of the ship.) I like Don's dark moon, and the poem overlay of the moon.
And now I'm off. I'm hoping to be back online in a week when I graduate my class.

Just a word about those pics U posted - thb, I wouldn't use them. they either show your darling from behind or from top, not really usable if u want the ship to burst out of the signature - and not into it ;)
Speaking of that, how do U like my latest attempt, is there still "too much gooing on?"
