First off, why would anyone want to use the Vargur for PvP(a 750 mil ship) when a Typhoon fitted with torp launchers and AC's is better AND much the cheaper.
For PvE, again, the T2 Vargur gives no distinct advantage other than tractor range and cargo hold size. I think most people who can afford a T2 BS probably have a 2nd acct that tags along to salvage anyway. Having tried both Tempests and Maelstroms for lvl 4's, I sold the Tempest and only use the Maelstrom.

Liang, would it not be better to compare the Mael with (8) 800 AC's or even (8) 650 AC's if you are putting AC's on the Vargur? While AC's are good for missions like AE, other missions where you can come in at range like Blockade, a 1400 fitted Mael will have the targets (for the most part) dead before targets are in the Vargurs AC range.

Damsel in Distress is another mission where you can warp in close. I usually steam away from warp in as I use all 1400's and want to get range. Might be interesting to see how arties would work and not move away but rather orbit the slave pens.

I suspect in a mission like Mordus Headhunters, A arty Mael will complete the mission quicker and my using a looting Cyclone (4 tractors, 4 salvagers and 1250 m/3 cargo) with a MWd will have the mission looted and salvaged quicker than a Vargur could.

Having come back to read this threads additional pages, I must say Liang's posts exemplify quality work and a deep knowledge of the game. Hats off to you Liang.
CCP Wrangler, in General Discussions, stated well thought out posts will be taken into consideration for tweaking a item. Hopefully Wrangler reads this thread and passes on the need to boost some of the T2 battleships. As it stands right now the Marauder class is way too expensive for a ship designed for PvE, and is only a mediocre improvement over tier 2 BS's.
