I'm frankly shocked that this whole thing comes as a surprise to anyone. I've been confessing to it at just about every Eve meet I have attended which involved consuming alcohol, which is to say every Eve meet I have attended.
What was unexpected for me was that we would still be fighting a year later against the wrong people.
The problem really came from overestimating our intended opponents. I was under the impression that were were going to go full force against ASCN, whilst insulting D2 in to attacking us from the north (by claiming that we choose to attack ASCN because D2 would have been too easy). ASCN would use its huge wealth and organisation to stall us (and they nearly did at the start), whilst D2 used it's PvP experience to charge towards Delve from the North. Unfortunately ASCN pretty much fell apart and D2 had apparently been swamped by ship builders rather than pilots. Shame really. I guess we expected D2 to have been more like Evoke are now, and things would have worked out very differently.
Anyway, yes, the plan has always been pretty much to provoke an epic Eve vs BoB struggle, as much to generate some content and interest to Eve as to actually get lots of pew-pew (although that is great too). I guess our goal would have been better achieved with different opponents (no offence to Goonswarm, but they are hardly the "epic content" I had in mind - I was thinking more Darth Vader than Jar-Jar Binks), and less lag; but they are still being achieved none the less.
With the turn of MC we may still get the Epic content, and I am keeping my fingers crossed on the Epic battles (which, it has to be said, have been much improved over recent days).
Yes, people got played - but it wasn't really a secret anyway. I'm sure many people were on to us pretty early on (in fact, I know some were, because we talked and laughed about it over drinks), I'm just shocked that so many people are having a hard time accepting that we are playing a game of internet spaceships, and trying to make it as fun and entertaining as possible. Without a bit of drama Eve would be so dull.

I think it would be more accurate to say that my post, and the implications of it (re: goons getting played), so got under the skin of a GS member that he felt his only course of action was to lash out with personal insults, possibly due to a lack of a more mature coping mechanism.
Whilst I found the "nerd" attack marginally amusing, mostly due to the ironic nature of the medium used to make it, and the fact that my reading it, making probably equally applicable to both parties, I did find the questioning of my wife's gender both slightly offensive, and possibly dangerous to said poster.
Whilst I have been fortuante enough to experience her loving touch, I fear somewhat for those who would provoke her less tender contact.
She may not be a kickboxing supermodel, but she ain't far short.

Check
Actually I'd say it fell far short of our expectations. We wanted the most Epic conflict with the greatest superpowers in Eve, but I guess what we ended up fighting is better than nothing.

Actually Aneu, I handle the recruitment for BNC, and I am turning away more people than I accept.
And no, you aren't getting in, sorry.

Come now Avon, we know BoB use almost anything to their advantage and try to minimize disadvantages, a drop in membership is a disadvantage since your 'public profile' would take a hit. You dont expect us to believe BoB wouldnt stoop to the point of getting its members alts into the corporations to equal out those leaving?
Aneu, I am being absolutely straight with you. I have applications for BNC still pending that I haven't got around to, and they are not alts trying to up the numbers. There are lots of people who want to fight with BoB and be part of what is happening, and who can blame them? Win or lose, it is much better to be able to say you were there, taking part in the greatest conflict Eve has ever seen .. quite possibly that any MMOG has ever seen, rather than just sitting on the side-lines and throwing mud on the forums.
You might not want to believe it, and it may not suit your agenda, but BNC has more active members now than pretty much any time in the last year. I don't know how the other corps are doing for members, but if they are having any problems I have a whole bunch of applications that they can take off my hands.

Does it hurt so much that they'd rather join us than you that you feel you have to post about it?
Why yes, yes it would seem it does.

Fortunate then that they are just the rather unpleasant fascade of a rather more capable coalition, otherwise you would be correct, my e-dignity would be in tatters.

Wait. Did you just suggest I edit a screenshot in photoshop and then present it to you as evidence? Do you not see a possible weakness in that logic?

Ok i believe you, honest. Now can you get Avon to give me that screenshot please? Thanks.
I just got home and caught up with this thread.
If your amazing intel was any good whatsoever you would know why what you request would not help either one of us.
If your source has not informed you why, I suggest you get someone to apply to BNC and see what happens.

If your intel source was any good he would have got you to ask for my eve-mail inbox, because he would have told you that is where applications would be found. You would already know that any applications made without prior approval are deleted as a matter of course.
I am starting to think that your intel sucks.

Originally by: Hannobaal You mean how your alliance leader has, for reasons of silly pride, concentrated your efforts on the absolutely least strategically important of the 4 fronts, thus allowing for the other fronts to collapse (including your last remaining reasonably sizable ally) which will eventually force you back into Delve to defend your last remaing space and render any and all gains you manage to make in Period Basis completely meaningless?
Hey, it's just where the fun fights are right now. If the fun fights dry up, or you guys actually *do* something meaningful, then I guess we'll give you a little of the attention so so dearly crave.

We should probably consider your words carefully, what with GoonSwarm being the voice of experience in these matters.

Your post was great until this bit. This was your downfall. Cleis gangs are definately not joined if you want to improve your K:D ratio.

PvP organisations want to PvP. That is what they find fun.
To a PvP organisation a good fight, win or lose, is far more enjoyable than fueling POS and doing logistics.
Winning a fight mitigates your costs, it doesn't increase the excitement of the actual fight.
There is no "win Eve" ultimately anyway. You win by having fun. If you can only have fun by winning, then you have already lost.
I think you are missing the whole "IT IS A GAME" thing, to get meta. It is a form of entertainment.
I don't think you *get* games.
