Hello from FLA! -FREELANCER ALLIANCE-
What?? Yes, there are 2 members holding the alliance open and I would like to ask EVE if you would like to see FLA reborn? start over from scratch?
There are literally THOUSANDS of ex-FLA members in EVE, so what did you like best about FLA? What did you dislike (character and corp names are irrelevant at this point)?
Who would behind it as an ally, investor, host?
Please, only discussion on FLA, which is welcome all the way back to its conception and the likes of Jack Soul. Possibly EVE is too different a world, so generalizations might be necessary.
THANK YOU for your repectful replies! *HAPPY NEW YEAR* Ladyangel4FLA, Director of FLA

Miss you too Slinky but I'd rather keep FLA safely tucked away in the past. There is a time for every purpose under heaven. I've taken what was good in FLA with me, and have left that which wasn't behind me.
Good luck though!

Same leadership and goals? There was a reason most corps left and it folded. I prefer to think of my time in FLA as a slightly-pained childhood, where you blot out everything but the good stuff, so later on, it seems great.

Ahh can you feel the negative vibes....
The FLA was always a good idea, and I was always pleased to see it doing well long after I had to step back from it. It might be a little to soon for a come back just yet, but if the fun can be put back into it, then its always a option.
Give me a shout in-game sometime.

The only thing fla made me giggle on was the 50 man camps 23/7 on the Tor gate in Ec-.
Other then that fla was really only a good gate-way alliance(people getting thier feet wet in 0.0) before they moved on to bigger things. Your sig burn is weak
If by "Your sig burn is weak" You mean that "Orar is obviuosly alot cooler then me and I fail Very hard" Then i concur with your statement |

Biased because I was an FLA member until the bitter end and would gladly wear the tag again, but I never really saw anything bad about FLA during my time in it. Was it rocky as hell? Definitly.
Leadership and internal bickering were a problem, but as I've found that is pretty normal for any alliance. FLA may have had it worse than others though (capital fleet stolen, etc) but that really comes down to the individual people involved ... those involved with FLA right now aren't all the same people involved back then.
FLA was mostly a democracy, or atleast as much as I've seen accomplished so far. There were a number of elections and a few different alliance leaders were voted in. It definitely wasn't great, but atleast people were trying and it was getting better over time <shrug> One of the reasons I find players resistant to join a large corp/alliance is because they don't want to become 'just another number.'
Based off the offers others made after FLA got BBQ'd by MC we were decently respected.
PvP participation at FLA's high time consisted of fleets around 150 with good discipline. Granted, the fleets were usually more than half tech1 cruisers and frigates.
It's kind of pointless comparing the FLA that used to be to what it would be today if it were suddenly formed again, though. Those that would go back under the FLA tag would most likely be those who were already under it before the alliance merge. Comparing that FLA to the one everyone has memories of is just like apples to oranges. An alliance is made by the people who are in it, and those who would join FLA now are not the same as those who used to be in it before.
Slinktress for President wherever we go, though.

In a sea of negativity I would like to say FLA gave it all they could. They lacked ability and lacked a clear direction. However for everything they lacked they had double in the will to fight.
Do I think they should reform? What does it matter I think if them member want to then they should. Don't see why outsiders views should come into it. They never done any harm to the game. ----------

Good alliances are made through their people and through hard work, so anything is possible.
I would put the name of FLA to rest, with it, the good and the bad, and start fresh if that is your intent. I doubt that those members who made it flourish in its heyday would return to the fold though as they have found other friends and pursuits to fill their days. If you choose to build a new alliance or exhume the corpse of FLA, never, never forget the bad times, those in the end defeated FLA more than any military force did.
Best wishes in your efforts,

Well, I wasn't in FLA very long, since Freelancer Union didn't allow pirates at the time, but iirc there was some woman who **** up alliance chat with the most inane details of her life. Can't remember her name.
But, if you're really freelancers, you should allow mercs and pirates. I always thought it was misleading to call yourselves freelancers but be restrictive about what careers people choose.

What I liked about FLA were some of the people. What I didn't like about FLA were some of the other people.
I never can see the point of simply reviving a dead alliance's name. Cus thats all it is- sticking the old name on a brand new alliance. Let FLA as it was stay in history. If you want to start a new alliance, give it a new name too. ------

What I liked best? I loved how a certain someone did a When-Harry-Met-Sally impression to cover up the ignorance and corruptness of the leadership (democracy lol).
The things I did like in FLA were accomplished by Bobby Atlas and you (yes you Slinktress) tried to convince DTHI leadership to boot him because he was honestly telling the leadership that they sucked the way they did.
FLA should be burried and cremated...just to be sure...

me and my old corp were in FLA for about 10months i think, from the NFC war to where MC came and busted our balls for a while. I think the name FLA should be left down, and a new name cast up. Yeah, there were some probs with leadership, and some of the members were complete ********s, but the people that did do good things were great at them (Slinktress and LoQ, KVEC, DI-TRON, and some others i cant remember)
But, if you came back as FLA, Good luck guys, and it'd be groovy to fly around with ya

If they can save some isk by using the already existing FLA alliance name, then do so.
New name or old name, it's the people in the alliance that make it good or bad.
It's about practicalities, not emotion.

I was there from early on, all the way from Vale of the silent to almost the end. I will put a few points of constructive critisism here. Succeses of the alliance Great ppl. The ppl were the heart of the alliance. Great ideals. Brilliant gateway for new 0.0 players. Absolutely splendid market with good competition.
Downsides Stagnancy. The alliance was very defensive, and outgoing roming pvp etc was discouraged, instead of encouraged and that lead to a constant stream of pvp players leaving the alliance. In the end the alliance had a massive playerbase but very few FCs. Use of resources. Space was theoretically owned by the alliance, but moons were owned by individuals without the alliance getting benefit from their use. Communication. Too few ppl knew what was going on and communication with friends and allies was too rare and difficult. Quite a few corps left because they were not happy with how things were handeled but didn't really express what they wanted before leaving. Leadership. While the people were great, the leadership did not provide a vision or direction for the alliance after the move into deklein and that lead to a general lack of motivation and reduced activity. Every time it was a matter of survival, everyone would spring into action, but without external pressure and a lack of clear leadership the alliance started to divide into factions. Ok, o-2. But that did not involve too many people.
Keep the pros, work on the cons and you can make it work. ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

Actually yes I was. I was one of the few Fleet Commanders left in FLA when MC hit us fully and we lost 3JN9-Y. I even led gangs with Bobby Atlas in them, so yeah, I was "one of those" helping in the defence of FLA and Deklein. Sup people. Dont know where to start on this one
Yes graalum is right, not gettin my ass back. Having too much fun with SK/chaos to leave. The same can be said of a lot of the players that made FLA what it was ( a group of stubborn carebears with nasty pointy sticks) Its imposible to get such a motley crew together as we once had. Gokil for his "upfront" comments about tri, my drunken poastins, Coldkills tireless efforts to turn carebears into fighters, Rev's constant screwing everything up and bobbys effective do what needs to be done and if it ****es off the leadership, thats an added bonus;attitudes.
So what do we do? do we retire the name and remember the good times? Do we dwell on the mistakes? Do we try and get everyone back together (not gonna happen). I say no. The memories we all have of our time in there or fighting us, are all but memories. some good, some bad but all a good time.
I say start anew. Those that wish to rejoin the alliance should. The alliance itself needs to find its own new dastommys/gokills/bobby atlas's/kerdraks. Find a home in 00. Become residents of another stronger power wishing to help FLA regrow and to stand beside her in her development. Recruit new corps and new players and give FLA a new face. That is what i wish to see my alliance do. My greatest times in eve were spent in FLA but i have moved on to another entity. Atlas rocks plus the 3b guys are teaching me spanish. Yo soy un puta.
Well thats my thoughts on this. I would also like to take this oppertunity to say hi to my ex alliance mates. Wether your blue, red or nuetral; its always nice to see you in local chat.
o7
ps: angel is ex-FLA, not only that but she was also part of NFC and merged into FLA same time as me. Ragging carebear. the whole i like to pvp thing is a lie.

No, you only was an FC with no clue, that threatened people of your own gang (even shooting them ), with pathetic strategies and ridiculous rules like blowing wrecks (well, cans in that times) to not letting ppl to loot them (only you could loot the cans).
Yeah, making people not joining your gangs (actually, more people joined my daily roaming gangs than your defense fleets) because you were an ******* was a real help for the defense, you are a hero . ________________________________________

Old FLA members (on both sides of the fence), what’s going on with all the bitterness!? That’s a rhetorical question, no drama queen acts or self-righteous rants about how good and right you are is needed, nor is a demonizing sermon.
I came to respect many corps and pilots during my time in FLA, there were many great people in that alliance. Why are such pilots resorting to bitter petty bickering every time FLA is mentioned on the forum? It’s kind of depressing. I don’t like it and I doubt you.
I have plenty of memories I cherish from my time in FLA, and more then a few memories that are not so positive in nature. How about we all play the game and move forward instead of bickering about the past? :)

Well from my side FLA is was a great friendly Alliance , they also help us re-build and grant us residential status in their homes , we did our best to fight alongside FLA against MC but we were hugely outnumberd against a much More experienced foe the MC , but anyways we did fight battles as many as we could and try and win as many as possible but then in the end MC cap ship fleet was the biggest at that moment ..it wa sa juggenaught that cudnt be stopped but FLA honour is intact in my opinion to fight till the end and never give up even Titans were thrown but yet FLA stood and fought until the final outpost went down much respect to FLA guys though it was sad to c it go down but i see a good chance of them coming back with more Power and Unity this time and one the things wich makes FLA great is they are always friendly thats why i always support FLA . Good People , Good People Friends Forever! and hi Slink i just came back after 7 months of in-activity would be happy to see guys back in action! I fought with FLA against MC and saw FLA's valor and honor againsts a much determined and experienced foe, so let's just leave it at that.

Let the name die and create a new alliance.
I'm not bitter, but the alliance wouldn't be what it was (even if it wasn't great). __________________

Bring back FLA....Nice idea but i dont think it would work.
Maybe under a different Alliance name with the same honest and integrity attitudes but with different goals. with less of trying to make everyone blue and more of join us or die approach.......Nah it would never work.

Take Goonfleet. For all purposes, the reformed Goonsquad. Its like 3000 guys, each dumber than the rest , somehow. Its awesome.

FLA is one of those alliances that people like to make fun of, kind of like RISE or ISS.
You see those alliances and you really want them to succeed, to do great things but somehow, along the way, they fail. Some times, all it takes is a post on the forums to doom your alliance to eternel mockery.
I had a great time with FLA, but it's best left dead.

Time to throw in my contribution.
For me, FLA was always about the people. Some were awesome, some not-so-awesome. More of the former, I think. When my last corporation wanted out of the alliance, I elected to shift to LoQ and stay with FLA rather than go with them, because I had come to consider these people to be my friends and allies. Time has not changed that.
The name, at this point, is more than just purely symbolic. It brings with it history, both good and bad. On the one hand, we have the legacy of things like the Deklein Campaign (A war that improved my opinion of the Mercenary Coalition no end) Operation Palisade, and our ongoing feuds with Triumvirate and Beagle Corp, in which I like to think that we gave as good as we got.
On the other hand, there are a number of former members, dissatisfied with the way we ran things, or ornery after internal feuds and disputes, who will never be able to leave the stigma behind - for whatever reason, those people came to dislike FLA, and will inevitably continue to do so.
While I'd dearly like to raise the banner of the Freelancer Alliance again - to be a proud part of resurrecting the alliance that I spent a long and glorious time with - I am forced to conclude that it's time to make a fresh start. We can clear the air, and start again with like-minded corporations looking to uphold the core values that FLA always tried to follow - integrity, dignity, and fair play. We can do that just as effectively under a new banner as under the old, and without the attached emotional baggage.
The name is less important than the people. -

Qft.
New aliance, new name. Everything else seems just wrong.

I'd like to quote this in closing this thread from the last FLA'rs perspective. Gathering some of the toughest and best-weathered friends into an alliance that means FUN is what makes this adventure worth while.
A new adventure and a neverending story of trust and friendship is what we have now.
Thank you to all those who have shared the ride with us thus far.

FLA really brings back memories.
It represented what EvE is all about. From "Hello" in local, to the fireworks of it's birth (was it in Stacmon?). Just a bunch of players who wanted to do their thing in EvE, not bothering too many peeps. Until It had the chance of claiming it's own space. Vale of the Silent had new inhabitants, forcing D.E.V.I.A.N.C.E to move to Obe. Black Lotus and his gang gave us some nice fights though, eventually ending up, side by side, fighting a mutual enemy. The occasional StonedBoy and the ultimate Amthrianius dropped in from time to time and 0.0 life was born. Some really old FUNners already had a taste of syndicate, but real 0.0 is something entirely different. Newbies even found their ways into 0.0, making ISK @ 30 mil an hour, accompanied by an older member. It took me 2 months before I could buy and insure my first Geddon (and even that was sponsored).
The battle for 3JN changed FLA into a more complex alliance with NAP's, diplo's, struggle, miscommunications, the worx.
As of that moment alot of pilots left FLA and others joined. Every character has it's alliance where he can find a home. FLA wasn't what it used to be, just some guys wanting to finish EvE .
FLA was meant to die, and it did. Build a new alliance, but cherish it's memory by making your ticker -FLA- or something.
There's only one true Freelancer and that's Jack Soul.

Another old FLA pilot here. Started in FLA before the move to 0.0 (Vale of the Silent rental from Forsaken Empire), then moved out to Deklein. Was there right through the first war with NFC, left not long after, and eventually went back for a bit of fun but did not stay long enough for the MC fights. (Vindication 3 is still the best EVE movie I've seen to date.
FLA was alot of fun for me, and also a lot of stress. Most of my old pals (Dragonmorph, Jack Soul, Hesprax, Aarthorn, Bidman and all of the old BGG guys) left as it was not the alliance we all knew and loved.
Should the FLA reform? I don't think so. Those days died along time ago. Let them rest in peace.
