Hey all, I've been playing 3 or 4 months now and have more recently started PvP-ing in 0.0. I can fly Minmatar ships up to the T1 battleships, but those only barely. My skillpoints are mostly in Gunnery and I can use T2 autocannons at small and medium sizes. (T2 artillery at small only). I've mostly been PvP-ing in Rifters (frigates) and Thrashers (destroyers) with T1 fits because I don't want to throw away money not knowing what I'm doing. But so far I don't have any solo kills and I feel like I need to specialize in some combat role so I can pull my weight in a fleet. My question for you is: what role is useful and in demand, and reasonably within reach to a character like me? What PVP ships should I set up EVEmon for?

If you're a low-skill rifter pilot who wants to break in to gang PvP, theres only one great answer: tackling. Train up speed and electronic warfare, and load up on webs, scramblers, and jammers/damps. No fleet will get a single kill without some decent tackling going on. ------

In my (admittedly noob-ish) opinion, you can't go wrong with interceptors and/or covert ops. They're unquestionably useful, the ships are relatively simple and inexpensive to purchase and set up, and they are a lot of fun to use.
Pulling your weight in the fleet doesn't necessarily mean getting lots of kills. If you want to do that, you should probably specialize in a sniping/knife-fighting battleship or something of that nature -- perhaps a Megathron with tons of gunnery skills, weapon type specialization, T2 or good named weapons, and perhaps a bit of faction ammo.

Once you get some more SP and some more ISK, you can't really go wrong with a Minmatar recon ship, especially these days when nanos rule the galaxy. _____________________________________________________________________________

Continue training Minmatar. I would go for Interceptors first, they are always useful in small gangs, gate camps and large scale fleets. For the time being you can setup some T1 cruisers/BCs for small scale PvP and gate camps. Don't expect solo kills in frigates, you can get solo kills in T1 cruisers/BCs though depending on your target. I wouldn't feel confident soloing 0.0 in anything but a HAC or Recon. For large scale fleet combat you want a T2 sniping BS. They are actually not that long to train for especially considering you already have T2 mediums.
If you expect to be in large scale fleet battles I suggest going interceptor then T2 sniping BS. If you don't expect to be in any large scale fleet battles go interceptor than HACs.

Yes, that's wise if you're the commander, but for an individual it's wise to be as indispensible as possible.
Many replies said interceptors. My take on interceptors is that everybody and his brother (at least in my alliance/coalition) seems to have an interceptor. Every PVP op I go to, I think I'm going to tackle with my Rifter, but there's like six guys with intys travelling five times faster than me. So something else maybe.
Can somebody tell me about ewar/recon/covert/electronic attack? I know about webbing and scrambling, but have never even tried any of the the myriad sensor/dampener/ECM/ECCM mods that are available.

You've missed an important point - interceptors die. Specifically, they die A LOT. It is therefore important to have a plentiful supply of them. You asked a straightforward question - interceptors are the straightforward answer.

Id say:
Aim for interceptors first. While training for them use EW in a cruiser if possible. After inty there are alot of useful ways to go. Generally low skill players pull their weights the most by tackling, scouting and flying support ships. ---------------------------------------------

Want a change of pace? Since you can use t2 mediums look at fitting out a Stabber. With good nav skills, you can get the Stabber to get close to the 5k m/s. And no you don't need rigs or implants. Besides a MWD, you can also fit a webber and a scrammer to make a excellent cheap fast heavy tackle. Fit with t2 220's and the Stabber is a good damage dealer. Once you get your skills up to fly the stabber over the 4k m/s, then start looking at the other choices mentioned here.

Early on EW is very helpful, especially if your gangs seem to lack it. The gang without EW that is engages a gang with EW will most likely find itself defeated.

1 and 3 are pretty fast to do if you focus on the right skills. But it will take 2-4months depending on what you have so far.

Ships always needed: Interceptors (to hold targets still. You need a lot of sp to go fast enough though) Huggins (same thing basically, more practical against the current nanoships) EW (keeps enemy from hitting your guys) Interdictors (still keeping ppl down. Good thing is, training this goes through interceptors...) ___ P.S. Post with your main. Mind control and tin hats |

As everyone else says, interceptors and EW frigs are very useful to any group and quick to train for. Recon ships are also very useful for any gang size, but will take you quite a bit longer to train for. If it were me, I'd say shoot for an EW frigate (they're all useful, just pick the one you like best), train up whatever its special EW mod is, and then start working towards it's recon equivalent. If you can't decide which to go with, then do the hyena by default and start working towards the huggin and rapier.

One of the roles that is relatively easy/quick to train for, but is in high demand by most gangs/fleets, is a tackler piloting either an Interceptor or Interdictor. Plug in the Stiletto, Claw, or Sabre into EVEMon. If you decide to go the Interdictor route, keep in mind you'll need to train Graviton Physics and be able to fit an Interdiction Sphere Launcher. ---

Yes, and it's definitely very valuable. Shield logistics (Basilisk) for repping station services and POSs, armor logistics (Oneiros) for repairing tech-2 ships and BSs in fleet combat.
However, the OP is Minmatar specced, and was looking for something to train quickly. I would expect interceptors and interdictors to be the faster route, while still being in high demand. ---

I put Hyena and Wolf/Jaguar into my EVEmon and it's a pretty short schedule. Longest skill to train is Minmatar Frigate V at 9 days. I know nobody likes assault ships but I think I need the Engineering V and Mechanic V as support skills anyway, so it doesn't cost me much after that to get my first T2 killer.

Edited by: umop 3pisdn on 05/01/2008 09:18:50 For your skills (very nice to get the t2 meds so fast btw) i would recommend interceptors, interdictors and Recon ships (Rapier/Huginn, in very very high demand at the moment) the new electronic attack ship is also a must in my oppinion, its basically a baby Huginn and very cheap comparatively.
Edit: It's named hyena, being able to fly that and interceptors well (t2 1MN MWD, t2 Warp disruptor and web) would be quick and make you a nice find for any pvp group.
