Hello Space Friends,
My name is sky captain Lyris Chronicles of Narnia in the World of Tomorrow's Goonfleet dot Com, and today I am here to tell you that I am hereby officially announcing my candidacy for the Council of Stellar Management in EVE Online, the popular Internet spaceship game by CCP, hf. I would like you to vote for me because I believe that I can be a passionate advocate for you and all your constituent issues. Let it be known that I am not the official Goonswarm or Clusterfuck Coalition candidate, and therefore that if you are a Goon and reading this then you should just hit the "like" button and carry on your merry way. Thanks in advance, but you'll get me sent to the gulag if you vote for meGÇöso don't do it!
As for everyone else reading this thread, I suppose a post is in order!
I stand for representing the entire EVE Online community to the best of my ability, because it is my belief that listening to all of the constituents is the only forthright and conscientious way to serve as an elected representative. To this end, I have been making threads and joining discussions to ask people exactly what they think about various issues and aspects of the game, and thereby soliciting them for their expressed desires. That is my one campaign promise: that I will to the best of my ability present to CCP with reasoned arguments the expressed desires of the constituency.
To that end, I have assembled a platform which addresses many aspects of the game. Here's a few things off the top of my head which is not at all to be construed as a complete list. With respect to the fact that this thread is now in Jita Park, it was originally in General Discussion and never was it my intention that this thread would be my candidacy thread so you can look forward to a more complete list in the near future with a better-presented format in its own thread.
Regarding High Security Space
- Get rid of the period of time during which a POS is literally invulnerable;
- Address the relative imbalance of High Security "deathstar/dickstar" POS versus the power required to remove them;
- Get rid of the dialog box and automatic deactivation of modules that occurs when using remote assistance modules on an entity which has received aggression from a new source, or make it an option to disable it;
- Add to entities using remote assistance modules on an second entity with aggression a full aggression timer, which like any other aggression timer prohibits docking or activating star gates;
- Proposal for the iteration of missions with the Incursion-style AI and functionality to provide group PVE content at all levels of missions so that people have an in game reason to work together, similar to instanced dungeons in traditional MMO games;
- Proposal for the review of and alteration of Level 5 missions with regards to the proposed "Incursion-style missions," in the previous point, which would have a separate functionality;
- Introduce an active module which "cloaks" the contents of a ship's cargo bay
Regarding Low Security Space
- Oppose the introduction of interdiction bubbles to Low Sec, to preserve its unique gameplay;
- Address the fact that Low Sec is divided into two classifications, 0.4, and 0.3 and below, with regards to anchorable structures at POS
- With regards to the above, modify the anchoring requirements for starbase structures, particularly those involved in drug manufacturing, to be anchorable in all low security systems
- Iterate faction warfare with unique, non-mission objectives and means to produce rewards - in short, doing the PVP portion of Faction Warfare should be more profitable if done optimally than running Level 4 missions in a stealth bomber
- Introduce non-Sansha, faction specific Incursion-style raids on non-Faction Warfare systems

For the viewer's convenience, attached are a few of my other posts on "the issues."
Quote:
Hello space friends
I have a question for both the CSM7 candidates and the potential voters in the CSM7 elections. It is a very simple question that has been plaguing me for some time, because it is as evident in real life as it is in EVE Online. That question is: Why do we perpetuate a cycle of choosing candidates based on promises they make? Given that both in game and in real life any politician is limited severely by what he or she can reasonably accomplish in office, being that most politicians are members of decision making or decision influencing groups rather than solo decision makers, why is this what people do? You see it in both the CSM election behavior and in the behavior of people in real life. We pick among the promises that politicians make to us, and then we complain about the politicians we perceive did not give us what we want. Why?
I suppose all of this is rhetorical, because my primary point here is to suggest that an alternative exists and to me this alternative seems to be the most forthright and honest way for a politician to represent a constituency. That alternative is to simply ask the People what it is they want, with the only campaign promise being to represent the expressed interests of that constituency. Call me a starry-eyed dreamer, but isn't that what the plain language of most legislative bodies in real life claim that they are supposed to do? Represent the interests of the people. Not the interests of lobbyists, not the interests of power blocs, not the interests of a political or religious ideal. The interests of the people.
I'd like to challenge candidates in CSM7 to abandon the courtship of power blocs, ideology, and all other concerns. Ask the People what they want; embrace those desires as your own; passionately advocate on their behalf to CCP.
I'd like to challenge the voters in CSM7 to hold the candidates accountable to this standard; to not allow them to simply slough off comments and questions about their motivations, their personal interests, and so on; to demand that the candidates either represent the People or to simply laugh that candidate off the stage. You are the 99%. You control the flow of discussion and you hold the voting power. Make it happen.
Quote: #1Posted: 2012.02.01 03:06 | Report 28 Hello space friends.
This thread is about a very specific topic which I have decided to include on my platform for the CSM. I want to talk to you about how the members of the CSM are elected, and what that means for the average player in EVE Online.
As it stands right now the CSM elections disproportionately favor those candidates whom are able to draw upon a large and very well organized voting bloc by means of their in game affiliation; for example, The Mittani and Vile Rat are on the CSM because of the organized voting message they were able to dictate to the Clusterfuck Coalition, that entity being the combined coalition of some of the largest Alliances in the game: Goonswarm Federation, TEST Alliance Please Ignore, and the dozens of other, smaller entities, that live in the Null Sec regions of Deklein, Fountain, Branch, Fade, Pure Blind, and the surrounding areas.
Because these entities were presented with very specific candidates towards which all of their votes were funneled, those few candidates were assured of a certain amount of votes from those players and their alt accounts. And because these specific entities each have communities that extend well beyond the in game culture of EVE Online, those being message boards such as Reddit, Something Awful, and 4chan, there was a very effective "grassroots" style drive to get out the vote, and it was very effective.
By contrast, the average EVE player was presented with a dizzying array of candidates, many of them with similar platforms, and the much larger combined vote of everyone else not aligned with the Clusterfuck Coalition was split among these other candidates. Though the total votes that were cast for non-Clusterfuck Coalition candidates were well in excess of those cast for Clusterfuck Coalition candidates, the records show us that many of these other candidates each received individually very poor vote totals which resulted in many of the votes cast for them being effectively "wasted".
My stance, which I would like to argue to CCP on behalf of You, dear EVE Online Player, is that we need voting reform.
Something that would benefit the vast majority of the EVE playerbase would be proportional representation and selected transferable votes because in the present system a big chunk of the voting share is effectively "wasted" by people voting for this or that candidate, each one of a dozen or more who receive fewer than the minimum needed to gain a seat. With transferable votes there would be a lot more representation of the non-Goon interest on the CSM, because people could then delineate their votes to go to Candidate Y in the event that Candidate X is not elected, and so on. Right now one of the big advantages that an organized voting bloc like the Clusterfuck Coalition has over the rest of the game is that all of their votes go to specified candidates which will almost surely win positions whereas the rest of the game's population is left to blindly pick one of the other horses in the race and is left with no recourse or representation once that horse loses.

Examples below in context in responce to the claims above.
On gameplay:
Lyris Nairn wrote:Yes please. But you shouldn't let goons play. They use unfair griefer tactics.
On development priorities:
Lyris Nairn wrote:It's not that the suggestions would negatively impact life in nullsec if implemented, it's that CCP has limited attention span and limited development resources to devote to all possible things. The more things that are on the plate for consideration, the less likely any specific thing will be considered, developed and implemented; so, by putting forth proposals for non-nullsec improvements our dear friend here is lowering the total chance that other proposals which positively effect nullsec will be considered, developed and implemented.
On power blocs and equality:
Lyris Nairn wrote:What is to stop any other group of people from banding together and having a voice exactly as loud as or louder than the collective voice of Goonswarm? I can think of exactly two things: first, that other groups of people lack the necessary organization or group cohesion to do it; second, that enough other people do not exist. If the first is the case, then one can hardly blame Goonswarm and her allies for being successful. That is generally regarded as a good thing, ya know. If the latter is the case, and literally the voice of Goonswarm is the loudest because there are more of us than there are players in every other group combined, then we honestly deserve to get everything we want because that is how a democracy works. Welcome to the tyranny of the masses.

A goon trying to bluff me about a Goon bluff. Hmmm, tricky, unfortunatley these views are not that old, and the Goons are renowned for their manipulative tactics. Much like the threadnaughting now going on in this forum, most of it mindless, but some is at least tactfully clever.
However Lyris still wears that Goon badge and claims the above, when we know this is in direct conflict with the Mittani's viewpoints. Sorry it dont add up, even if you want to try and double bluff it with more spin.
I view it simply as trying to engineer a "wolf in sheeps clothing" but you wont pull the "wool over my eyes".

I really dont want to get drawn into a philosophical debate about rationalism, as your assuming that an open mind pervades to the idea that I must be wrong and must agree with you, what is so open minded about that? Whereas any "rational" person would question the history that Lyris represents, her current status and her ongoing efforts as a Goonswarm pilot. Seeing as there is some empirical evidence backing it up.
Actions speak louder than words and I still see recent KB entries for GSF and she still wears the badge and I like to measure a tree by it's fruits. The responsibility of proof is very much in Lyris' court not mine. And pandering with a whimsical view of telling us what we want to hear? Seriously not transparent enough for you? |

Usual brainless Zombie Clown Goon.
A quotation by definition is something you do as attributable of someone else's work.
The Mittani is only good at creating pygmalions. Usually the sign of an insecure individual needing affirmation.

Please make quotes only if your going to make an effort of understanding them.
and ...
Actually I "dislike" what Goons represent, specifically in the way that they comically manipulate the gaming experiences of many and in the process favour themselves with change using underhanded tactics. Its this meta-element that is what I despise. As a paying player, I think I'm entitled to point this out and how infantile they are about it at the same time. And as a result not an influence I would like to see involved with the CSM, I think it deserves better representation.
Please go "white knight" all the Goon comments in threads that simply only try to debunk statements with expletives or idiocy now if you want to give your point any credibility.
But I can easily confirm I don't like the Goons ethics. As individuals IRL am sure they are "normal" people, well perhaps not "Mittens". |

Fair enough, persist with your extremist flights of fancy. (So much for the liberalism)

You are mad, get out. So you like people being able to cycle a corp through alliances and thereby perpetually keep a Starbase invulnerable? OK. Removing reinforce timers is not the answer to this. You should rather make it take a long time for corporations to leave alliances that are at war (say, 48 or 72 hours).
Simply removing the reinforce timer means that the entire shape of POS and reinforcement warfare, which gives people the ability to actually defend their assets without having everyone on-call 23.5/7. Powerful alliances can kill a large pos in well under ten minutes.
You clearly have no idea what structure warfare is like, or why this mechanic was even there to begin with. Furthermore, your revised solution is inept and contains little actual thought. |

In either case this is a half-assed and poorly thought-out solution to a completely different problem. The issue never had anything to do with reinforcement timers. You can believe it did all you want, and that's fine, but that does not make it true. I pulled that issue from a discussion about high security mechanics that people would like to see changed, and you are welcome to go verify that the discussion to which I am alluding actually happened in one of the many threads I made for the expressed purpose of soliciting the People for their opinions. People do not like the fact that a POS can be made permanently invulnerable to hostile action by its parent corporation cycling through alliances. I wish to resolve that issue.
If you have an issue you would like resolved, then feel free to express it.

You know very well by now what was going on here. Your language was extremely unclear and it appeared for all the world as if you were advocating the removal of strontium timers. You need to clarify your language, terminology, and context -- then come up with some ideas of your own to fix it.

Hypocrasy is now also officially on record.
I see no hypocrisy at all in my previous statements and my present platform. In the past, I stated, as you were so kind to quote, "What is to stop any other group of people from banding together and having a voice exactly as loud as or louder than the collective voice of Goonswarm?" The answer to that question is: "Nothing". I am pushing for voting reform so that the present state of affairs, where a single voting bloc is superior to a group of fractious candidates splitting the votes of a much larger numerical majority, shall be changed to reflect a more equitable system. You may look at my previous posts as me speaking as an apologist for the present system, but I believe that you should instead view them in context of my present campaign. That I have the wherewithal to be critical and cynical of the present system is but further evidence that I am trying to change it. With regards to the above, modify the anchoring requirements for starbase structures, particularly those involved in drug manufacturing, to be anchorable in all low security systems
PRESERVE IT'S UNIQUE GAMEPLAY!!! This is very important to me, other low sec dwellers, and CCP if they want to keep me sub'd. High sec changes seem solid as do null sec changes. Are you in support or opposition to bringing sov mechanics to NPC null and/or low sec? This is another (kinda) issue that would affect the unique gameplay of these regions. Personally, I think diversity and dimensionality in game design is what makes the game atttractive and exciting.

And as a result not an influence I would like to see involved with the CSM, I think it deserves better representation.
You sir are what I "dislike" about this game. You are attempting to do exactly what many of the large power blocs do: force your values and play style on everyone else. As a whole, I think goons are jackasses, but they play this game the way they enjoy it. I'm fine with this as long as they aren't attempting to do what you are. It's the sandbox ffs.

I offer sincere apologies if my bullet points were not understood clearly. I am saying that I would like for all Low Security systems to have the same basic functionality with regards to which game mechanics work in them. This would include the assigning of fighters, the anchoring of specific Starbase modules, and so on. In short, anything you can do in 0.1 should also be doable in 0.4, and vice versa.
Note that I am not suggesting that things which are presently calculated on an incremental level (such as mission rewards and rat bounties) should be homogenized across the entirety of low security space. That's a whole other topic. This is just talking about things that arbitrarily work in 0.3 but do not work in 0.4, for no good reason. You will have my vote if you advocate making low-sec a viable option to 0.0 and empire, as in increase potential reward and benefits, nerf empire rewards and advocate the removal of "local", as in be able to see who is in a system by simply checking your local channel chat for all systems in the game (perhaps makes an exception for 0.0 alliances by allowing the one having sovereignty to see anyone in local.)
Some of us are sick of 0.0 and want something in-between empire and sovereignty warfare. Something that is worth ones time and not a waste of it.
I want to live in low-sec, move my whole family there and have a reason to other than sit at gates on select choke point with a tank buffer hoping to cap a ship before it warps off or guns get me, peace!
(if you promise to advocate these changes you are then my candidate and thus shall have my vote and voice as well as some campaign money *wink.)

Lyris,
So far I like the proposed fixes you are stating. In particular the ones redarding high and low sec.
However, I have a question regarding the candidacy of the Mittani, your CEO. Given the nature of Mittens points of interest and your position in his chain of command, how do you intend to deal with conflicting proposals? Will you always endorse the fixes you are stating here or will you blindly support your ceo? These conflicts are bound to happen and I want to be able to support your ideas, not Mitten's.

My thoughts are that you present me with an unreasonable question for which you cannot receive a meaningful answer.
For what it's worth, it is my stated intention to run entirely independent of the Goon voting bloc and if elected to perform the role of a CSM delegate faithfully and without regard to how Alexander Gianturco, AKA The Mittani, AKA Numismancer, wishes me to execute it for the betterment of whatever pet projects he may favor.
But consider, there are two possible truths: first, that I am genuine and sincere in my desire to honourably represent the wishes of the People without regard to what Alex wants me to represent; or, second, that I am willing to be a "yes man" for him. In the event that the first truth is realized, then my response to your question is that I will honourably represent the wishes of the People in opposition to those of The Mittani; however, being that I am an intelligent and reasonable person running for a political office, that is also the response you would expect from me even if it were untrue. Having admitted to you that I am smart enough to lie, I cannot provide any proof to you that I am not lying because it is impossible to prove a negative. You'll just have to take me at my word, or blindly disregard it.

Lyris Nairn wrote:These are the real issues which should decide this campaign. And they are not nullsec issues GÇö for war and hunger and ignorance and POS bubbles know no alliance barriers.
But because I am a Goon, the real issues in this campaign have been obscured GÇö perhaps deliberately, in some quarters less responsible than this. So it is apparently necessary for me to state once again not the alliance to which I belong GÇö for that should be important only to me GÇö but what kind of Eve I believe in.
I believe in an Eve where the separation of alliance and CSM is absolute, where no Goon prelate would tell the chairman (should he be Goon) how to act, and no fat illiterate Spanish eve news blogger would tell his readers for whom to vote; where no alliance or alliance leader is granted any political preference or Sabre blueprints; and where no man is denied public office merely because his corporation tag differs from the people who might elect him.
I believe in an Eve that is officially neither Goon, pubbie nor nebulous TEST in-betweener; where no CSM representative either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from The Mittani, Eve University or any other insular source; and where no coalition seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its representatives.
For while this year it may be a Goon against whom the finger of suspicion is pointed, in other years it may be a player from Eve University, Raiden, TEST, or Nulli Secunda. It was the Band of Brothers blueprint scandal, for example, that helped lead to foundation of the CSM. Today I may be the victim, but tomorrow it may be you GÇö until the whole fabric of our harmonious society is ripped at a time of great change.
Finally, I believe in an Eve where alliance intolerance will someday end; where all players and all organizations are treated as equal; where every man has the same right to join or not join the alliance of his choice; where there is no Goon vote, no anti-Goon vote, no bloc voting of any kind; and where pirates, scammers, mission runners, and spacejews, at both the line member and director level, will refrain from those attitudes of disdain and division which have so often marred their works in the past, and promote instead the ideal of brotherhood.
That is the kind of Eve in which I believe. And it represents the kind of CSM in which I believe GÇö a great office that must neither be humbled by making it the instrument of a dictator, nor tarnished by arbitrarily withholding its occupancy from the members of any one group. I believe in a CSM whose alliance affiliations are their own private affair, neither imposed by them upon the whole of the game, or imposed by the whole of the game upon them as a condition to holding that office. This man is truly a leader in whom we can all trust to place the interests of his constituents ahead of The Mittani's, and I wish that a certain vocal minority in this thread would put aside their prejudice in order to usher in an Eve free of petty alliance hatred and discrimination. |

You are absolutely right, however you are talking about an alliance who makes a point of not being ignored.
It will be up to Nairn to disprove this prejudice. The manner in which he speaks goes a long way towards that, but as he eloquently puts it himself: his words can be truth or lies. |

I've been saying that any non-goon would have to be a fool or insane to elect Lyris, but you are on to something here. From a goon perspective they could do worse. If they are lucky they could end up with two seats even.
