i dont know what it is that I did wrong, but in the span of an hour, i think i've rendered my ability to play the game to nothing...
1. I dont know what I did, maybe open the map too many times while at warp speed, but All the stars are gone and I dont know how to bring them back.
2. I clicked on Strip Fitting on my NOOB ship and now my gatling gun has "No Charge" on it and anything I try to put on it ammo wise gives me an error that it has 0.0 space. This renders me sterile in a game that deals with SPACE COMBAT.
I tried getting help in the rookie channel and its full of ppl who tell me to never use the NOOB ship and then the random cursing started.
I tried the Corp channel and i was on the verge of getting assistance with the whole ammoless gun thing and the NIGHTLY server reset happens... Which basically means I will only evar be able to play the game for two hour stretches any given day... should i even keep trying? my friend has tons of fun in this game... I guess he got in when being a noob was easy.

Edited by: Tzar''rim on 07/01/2008 11:47:38 There are some graphical glitches going on since... well since forever, but moreso since the last update. In your case you're best off trying to check if you have the lastest videodrivers and just relog when it happens.
I've heard on more civilian turret ammo problems, and it's not odd for 'normal' players to have no answer to that since civilian turrets are different from any other weapon. The best thing to do is to strip the modules from it, then leave the ship (rightclick the ship while docked), trash it, undock and then dock again.
That will give you a new ship, I know it sounds stupid but atm that seems to be the surest way hehe.

i remember that from the tutorial that I will always have "a" ship (something about a ship in chains). Ill try that tomorrow night and see if that makes a difference. I can trash a ship from the dock menu?

Because you're forced out of that after your account reaches 30 days hehe. If you have more questions just send me an evemail, I'm not online a whole lot atm due to RL stuff (can post but not play )

There's a lot of newbies in the rookie channel. It's hard to read that channel, there's like 10 questions coming up and only 2 of them get answered. Or someone answered but you missed it because that flood.
We can't join the rookie channel anymore. Lucky us. -- I'm lost in space |

Last time i was using civilian turrets they didn't use any chrages. And you can't put any ammo into them either.
Are you just confused that they don't take ammo or have you actually tried to shoot and got the message that you can't cause your gun is lacking ammo/charges?

From what I understand (and I heard someone else on it as well) is that if you remove the charge it has it will state that you need charges to fire the weapon, and when you then try to add the charge it will say that the turret doesn't require charges. Chicken and egg thingy, lets just call it a feature hehe.

From memory the Civilian Gatling Gun info mentions "gathering ammo from space debris" or something. It definitely doesn't need charges, unlike any other railgun. Counter-intuitive for sure.

We can't join the rookie channel anymore. Lucky us.
More to the point, because experienced players aren't allowed in that channel, it is only ever inhabited by people with brand new characters (part alt, yes, but those will leave the channel right after logging in), and a handful of STAR volunteers to answer the brunt of all questions brand new players are baffled with when they first are confronted with the rich and beginner unfriendly nature of EVE. As such it isn't a very good place to ask questions on.
Corp chat is better unless you have left a corp already. If you are in a player corp you hopefully picked it because the people are willing to help guide you trough the pitfalls of learning the game. Conversely, if you never joined a corp yet, you are in the newbie corp which tends to have all the empire alts that started as your race/background in it and these people are quite often willing to share their wealth of information with you if asked nicely.
About the only bad fix you could be in is if you joined then left a corp because in that case you'll end up in the general NPC corp that contains everyone that either left or was kicked from a corp, and as such that corp is likely to have a higher than normal signal/noise ratio (although you probably as an upside don't have to deal with as many EVEMails from ISK sellers). In that case the best advice i can give you is to find another corp as soon as you can. Anyone who still gets on the rookie help channel should comply to the membership requirements of EVE university so you could approach them. You could do a heck of a lot worse than hook up with those guys.

Asking politely in the local channel will get you an answer a lot of the time as well.

Just right click->eject then trash your noobship (take anyting of value off first) and undock and redock. Voila, a new noobship fully fitted.
Not sure about the amap problem, clear your cache is probably a good thing to try. Should be a guide somewhere - use www.eve-search.com

Seems to me like you are just zoomed in on a map area that doesn't have any stars, this happens to me alot when the map opens. Try to zoom out a couple of times and see if it solves it.

You should also think about ditching that noob ship. All races have cheap frigates (25k or so), one for mining (it usually has a big cargo space or bonuses to mining) and one for combat (usually has small cargo, good speed, and 3 weapon slots). Depending on what ship you get, if you set aside another 20k or so for some small guns or missiles (not civilian), a shield booster or armor repairer, maybe a 1 MN afterburner, and the ammo that the guns shoot (5000 units should get you started), you will probably more than double your combat abilities compared to the noob ship.
Or if you go for the mining ship, with Miner 1 lasers, a small shield booster, and some basic expanded cargoholds, you will definitely more than double your mining abilities.
All of it to get a little bit of money, perhaps 500k or so, so you can buy the top end combat ship and a few more skills to get you going.

Even if you've ben kicked out of rookie help there is still a help channel that can be, well, helpful. Often there are even mvps in there (no gms). People in EvE tend to be more helpful than most games as we actually want to encourage people to play and will help out people who got a bloody nose form the learning curve. Even pirates will tell you how to avoid what just happened as you wake up in your clone.
Either way if you are still having issues convo me ingame I'd be happy to help.

heh they should get more volunteers in the rookie help - even though not all questions get answered, at least whenever those ISD peeps are monitoring the channel the ISK spam is almost non-existent

I once applied but then swiftly remembered I had to be nice to idiots (and there's so many of them), now I can help the ones I feel are ok and just ignore the idiots, or bash them hehe.
