I'm looking back on over a year of carebearing, missioning, mining, the usual, and I'm wondering if I haven't missed out on an important facet of the game.
Is PvP really as central to EVE as everyone tells me it is?

Eve is a sandbox, do with it as you want.
The vast majority don't PvP, so it can't be that central.

If you have a very limited definition of what PvP is, then yes. However, it has been widly talked about that most things in Eve are infact PvP, as it is a PvP game.

If you define PvP as competing with other players, then yes. If you don't do it some form you're missing out on the best of the game. If you just mean combat, it's fun and it's what I spend most of my game time doing, but there's plenty of other things to do.

For most players carebearing is just a way to get ISK to PVP.

Not really. PvP is a big part of the game but it's not the only part and there's plenty of things to do that don't (directly) involve blowing other people up.
As for this thread, the YARR types have mostly driven the carebears off the forums and the big 0.0 alliances don't seem to post very often, so you won't get a very representative sample here.

eve is exactly what you want it to be....pvp might be a small part of the game or a big part just depends on what you want....many do and the odd one or two like me dont but you can do what ever you like
