Dear CCP,
As a developer of several API related applications, the current state of the API and who's managing/maintaining/developing it is a reason for concern. Not just for me, but for most of the API developers out there. When Garthagk left, somehow we got wind of someone supposedly taking over his involvement with the API, if not directly developing and expanding on it, then at least maintaining it. This someone, who as far as we know goes by the name 2Kay, is invisible to us. We've posted several times in the EVE Tech Lab forum, asking for information, but no answer has been forthcoming as of yet from CCP/2Kay. See this post for instance.
Of course, we're not asking for anything major here, we're just asking for a clarification on the current status of the API. We're concerned that this wonderful API you've given us will stop maturing alongside the new stuff that EVE is offering/will offer in the future. There's issues with the killmail API for instance, or the weird and unannounced 'regular' API downtime issue, as well as several other issues where a simple answer like "This is intended." or "We'll look into it." will be more than enough to give us a sense we're not left in the cold.
For those of you that have no idea what we're talking about here a simple example. The API can be used for instance to automatically grab all kills and losses per corporation. Importing this data into killboards automatically will make killboards a LOT more accurate, eliminating stuff like people posting dummy kills, or changing existing ones, or simply not posting losses at all. Now with the current issue with the losses in the killmail API, it's pretty hard to build/develop such a system for all to use. This specific API was meant for exactly this purpose but at current it's unable to perform in this role, and as such we now have to copy-paste not simple evemails with the kill or loss, but go into your Character info, go to the kills section, and copy it from there (ie. more steps needed). More steps needed means people will be more lazy about it, thus resulting in inaccurate killboards.
So CCP, as stated in the thread in the EVE Tech Lab section, a simple hello would be enough for us at this point to alleviate our fear of being left in the dark about the state of the (once again) wonderful tool you've given us to play around with.
Regards, Ryushe

There are also people who bugreport issues with the API only to get the reponse along the lines of, 'we are not responsible for fixing that'. Would be nice to get that cleared up too. ------

On the sidenote, putting the bug reporting, discussions, etc on the standard "File a bug report" thing killed the momentum Gargath added to the project by showing himself in another form than just a "We'll investigate" auto-click button.
Would be nice to have the API responsible back in the open. The "File a bug report" is not going to make this work.

The API now returns loss mails. There are still outstanding bugs though - for example Alliance names sometimes returns the call not the result - this can dealt with by loading the Alliance API and comparing the alliance ID with the alliance name from there - although this obviously isn't ideal. Also for some reason the first attackers security status is given as 0 no matter what it actually is, though I doubt this matters much for killboards as few actually record it.
But this is what the OP means I guess, no mention was ever made that the lossmails are now returning, it just happened one day

I still don't have the losses... Make sure that what you see is not friendly fire as those are showing in the kills. (Member asking for a podkill for example).

I think the lack of CCP response so far is telling in and by itself. Guess we'll just have to continue onwards with what we have then, although I suspect this'll make the possible future list of applications that actually make innovative use of the API somewhat smaller ...

Duh, your stupid Ryushe.
CCP hired guy to do simple API to get your whinage down and then kicked him because he fulfilled his role. They won't start updating or fixing it any time near future. Accept that it's decaying corpse that still feels warm while you bang it. Soon it will fade away and rot but that problem is still to come. For corporation management, and especially for the people who sometimes (like 40h++) have to work having an API is very important to be able to keep up with this game and be able to work and get food on the table ;)

For a start, a short "Hello, I'm the new API guy, I'll need <time span> to look into this project, before I can start answering your questions/fixing bugs." would be enough for as all, I guess.

I can sort of see the satirical side to your post, or so I hope. If you weren't trying to be satirical, by all means, troll away. It'll only mean that when the API breaks one day, some of the things being developed today and being heavily relied on tomorrow by corporations and alliances will no longer work. Example: the excellent real time sovereignty maps/lists application that is quite the impressive piece of work and also very handy to have as a resource would stop functioning, due to the tool using data supplied directly by the API.
To CCP, I know some of the guys in the office there have already noticed and read this thread. Please don't just let this concerned thread die off by not replying and hoping that by not doing so it'll just go away by itself. The API is a way too valuable tool for that, and by providing it in the first place you have raised the bar for every other MMO publisher/developer out there in my opinion in terms of helping out the community making this game that much better.

What I tried to say is that CCP hired person to do a job and once that job was working "so-so" and perhaps by lowest minimal features, they kicked him out. This is normal company political decicions. Hire someone to do specific job and then get rid of him.
Until API breaks down or you ***** enought for new features, API will not progress. [center]__________________________________________ I'm a well known whorum warriors alt and current number of people in Jita is 468249

Don't think it went that way, from what I understood Garthagk basically left CCP himself, but then again, that's besides the point here.

And that's just plain wrong. We shouldn't need (nor do I want to) ***** about new features. All I/we would like to see at this point is just for someone from CCP to step forward and acknowledge the API exists and that there will be someone (2Kay?) that will at least be maintaining it.
