I'm getting quite dispirited with Eve at the moment as the thing I most enjoy doing is group mission running, either helping out new players with their missions and setups or letting them tag along with me on level 4s; also speed running missions with other veterans.
However I can find hardly ANYONE in Eve who shares this preference. Am I really so weird? All the mission runners I can find seem to have it as their sole goal to run lvl 4 missions solo, and once they can do that they just sit back and look smug.
Please, this is a serious request and not just a gripe; if this is your preference too can you get in touch and point me in the direction of a channel or a corp for it, or by all means come join my channel PVE.

I know that during my time as a mission runner,I preferred to have a partner. Makes it easier and more entertaining to have some one to chat with while doing them. Especially with the LP sharing thing now. Plus builds strong bonds as you both are increasing wealth and you can learn how they work.
Unfortunately my mission running is in the past as I dwell in 0.0, but nice sentiments. Hope you find yourself a good co-pilot.

I've heard this trust thing again and again as an excuse. The chances of anyone setting up a gang to pop u in high sec are, while possible, pretty damn remote. Anyone actually had it happen, rather than having heard it as a friend of a friend thing?

You guys could also try joining corps that won't screw you over and do these things as a way of building community. Mining ops, mission ops, etc. Take my corp for example

I have been trying to join such a corp for months, but like i say the best i can find have a max of about 30 members. Assuming most of them are doing individual stuff or offline it's not exactly the hotbed i was looking for.
There are huge alliances like eve-uni and the pvp ones. Why is there nothing on the same scale for PVE? I know there are plenty of mission runners, and miners and other industrialists in the game. Yet everyone seems to start this project afresh. It's maddeningly frustrating.
If you or yr corp is interested in forming some sort of mission running network of trust join PVE channel.
Maybe I need to take up roleplay and start a religion.

The thing is, when a corp or alliance gets large enough where there are 30+ ppl online at any time, they usually end up going the pvp route as it is far more unpredictable and enjoyable. You only really need about 4-10 online to help do any mish in game. The difficult part is finding people who are willing to go the PvE route.
My advice, look for any corp, no matter how small. As long as they are all willing to do the things you are looking for, you'll find a way to make it happen.

In our corp, most everyone knows each other from other games/places and we talk on TeamSpeak all the time. Now and then I'll run a few missions with some of the newer players who don't have the standings to run with the agents I can. It's lots of fun, goes much faster and helps out the new guy.
As for running missions with someone of a different corp and/or unknown to me...."are you ****ing nuts?!?" _______________________________

Not if you are the fleet boss and commander.
Anyway, it is refreshing to see how other ships handle missions without flying them myself.

This is how I make my ISK at the moment. I dont have any level 4 agents, so I gang up with someone who does, we split the rewards, and, as a bonus, you get really good rep with the agent that gave out the mission, so you can grind out good rep in no time.
(rep doesnt work with corp/race, just the specific agent)

Me and my friend love missioning together. Discovering new team-strats n stuff is fun. We're both getting a bit bored with plain ol missions tho, which is why I'm training for exploration (woot - frig5 in 7 hours!)
There's lots of ways to go in EVE when you get bored with one particular thing.

Oh, only most of my corp Too bad we have an active war right now (some more or less generic "bored PvPers from MC come back to empire for easy pickings" corp decced us before christmas), I'd invite you in. Or, well, maybe you would actually LIKE a bit of highsec brawls ? Not much action lately, TBQH, but you never know.

It's why i am so disappointed with lvl5 missions. They could have been what eve lacks since 2003, group PvE.
Making money is something you have to do, if you want to pvp (and loose money there :P), so doing it in a group really is the prefered way ... in an MMO.....
Having missions scale with Skillpoints and amount of players in gang would be a kinda fun thing.

Yes all I'm looking for is a corp that has at least one or two players wanting to form a mission fleet at any one time. And this isn't to help me out; I have 25m SP and have made billions running lvl 4's solo. But I have always enjoyed it more when there was someone else along.

I too enjoy doing missions in group, but it's very hard to find people you trust outside your corp. It's a reason i like lvl 5's as they 'force' you to use some sort of group :D -sig-
Support the introduction of Blaze M crystals for Amarr! (Or make Amarr the only race able to deal EM damage from turrets).

Chances are 50/50 in my opinion. Especially the larger pve hubs tend to have people who enjoy tricking people into gangs with an alt that's at war with him (or someone who he invites the moment you enter warp).
Personally I like to run missions with others, often to give newer players a chance to see what it's like and to make some money. Financially it's not really that desirable to run anything lower than lvl5...

If you think chances are 50/50 you are either the unluckiest guy in the world or a paranoid delusionist. I've been running missions with people for over a year and not had it happen once. Have you actually had it happen to you or are you guessing, never having tried it?

As a lvl 4 mission runner on the eastern seaboard of the US, it's tough for me to find people to group with as well. If this is your time frame, let me know. I'd be up for some group action.

I run level 4s for one thing: ISK
0.0 mining is less lucrative, but also requires much less attention.
I guess teaching newbies might add an element of interest but really, is there all that much to teach?

In a word, lofty29.
Once anyone running missions pimp'd out with faction gear, realized ganging with anyone meant you could be ganked, that 5 day old nub asking for help and you think "what the hell" break from missions to help some one, where's the harm?
Pimp your ship to make missions worth the grind just make you a target, then it was ranson, try ganging with someone now, very hard to do anymore.
The trust is gone

Lofty has nothing to do with this. He was about duping fools out of their isk. Props to him for that. But this another kettle of fish. This about finding like minded people.
To the OP: Mission running is viewed typically as a way to fund your PVP habit. Most PVPers have alts in empire to do this in the least amount of time.
Best Advice:
Find yourself a corp that has a PVE side and ask them if you can tag along on a few during your TZ. You can see if their active and suit your playstyle.
You dont have to join the corp and they cannot pod you unless you take from their can. Just check their corp for wars beforehand as you can be podded if you gang during a war.
Keep trying. There are people like you out there. Dont listen to the "lack of trust" responses.

Every since lofty29 popularized inviting his sec mission runners to gangs to annhilate them, people have been extremely wary of grouping with random people.
So your pool of 'like minded folks' is pretty much going to be limited to corpmates of your corp who enjoy PvE.

Lofty is a very big part of why few people run missions in teams, he was pretty much the first professional highsec mission runner ganker. When his trick started to become common knowledge, the missionrunners willingness to trust strangers started a hard trend towards zero. Personally I enjoy missions in teams as well, but seeing how I run them in ever more expensive ships, the only people I run with are RL friends. Yes I may be paranoid, but I prefer a little paranoia over losing a ship fitted with 4 bil ISK worth of very difficult to acquire gear to trusting the wrong person. And really it is not so much the loss of the ISK that scares me but the time it would take to get all those rare items again.
Of course, if you run in a junk ship you probably don't have much to fear, but most of the more professional mission runners have fairly valuable rides.

Since the 'how to' for how to gank mission runners by adding a wardecc'd pilot in flight became widely publicized, and until CCP adds a fix, trust is going to be #1 deciding factor on grouping for missions.
Find a mission runner Corp. They exist, some do group missions. Rewards sharing means you can help each other build standings. Don't risk your faction pimped RNI on the first day though. Start with a battlecruiser and get to know the corp before waving teh epeen around.

Agree with most, but build trust slowly. Get to know the corp before you join. Use a plain ship at first, T2 fittings, etc. Until you know them. I'm not saying don't trust anyone, just don't trust people you don't know right off the bat.

/me shakes head and laughs
you ppl are so seriously paranoid Lofty must laugh himself to sleep every night....
that being said, just stay in your NPC corp and gang anyone you like who is in NPC corp and yes if the gang suddenly has another "New" member who is in a corp, leave the fleet ASAP. Pretty simple huh?
Sheesh, you ppl need to get you more and have fun. Seriously, and you dont need faction to run LVL4s, especially in a group. Isn't that the point of a group? Have fun and fly cheap.
Get a clue already and have fun or GTFO. |
