Id file a petition BUT 1 slot doesnt allow for much when its already full. Can a GM pls investigate this fool "gfhdrtfhf > Never experienced delivery in TEN minutes? www.ssegames.com will supply you with fast and convenient service. Just have a try & Enjoy it for all your life." Thanks.
One of the ways this can be easier to deal with is just dont allow 15 day trials to chat in local. or disable the ability to type anything with "www" or ".anything" to be shown in local. And allow more than 1 slot in the petition section.

Edited by: Crazy Dave on 08/01/2008 23:35:27 I agree something has to be done to stop or atleast severly curtail that dam spamming. Blocking works to a point but where are all those names that are blocked get stored at? in our computers or some ccp database? which will prob eventually add to lag the way bookmarks once did. I have to agree 15 day trils should be limited to only the rookie channel or have some kind of filtering inplace in local that prevents anything with a "www" or has a ". anything in it./Signed

Who doesn't understand "dub dub dub" or "\/\/\/"? Censoring local won't do a thing.

Agreed!! i am tired of the spamming already. on a daily basis i can count on constantly seeing cheater ads offering isk and other challenging to obtain items. Why would someone even waste their money buying nothing with real money?? As for describing the "www" and so on. just make the 15 day trial able to only access the rookie channels. they can view the others just no chat in them. And figure out how to place a filter that can distinguish differant combinations of the "www" or the ". anythings". Signed, Signed and re signed.

Someone suggested quite some time ago on this forum that CCP simply sensor the full URL from ever being printed anywhere in game.
It's a simple wordfilter.
Instead of seeing:
Want fast delivery and free viagra? visit www.buymyisk.com
you see:
Want fast delivery and free viagra? visit *****************
In this way, any player can still email or chat to another player telling them how awesome www.microsoft.com is (lol) but spammers have to register a new domain name everytime their current one gets added to the word filter.
I suppose they could do things like www [dot] bu ym yisk [dot] com to get around it, but a smart filter could catch a lot of these simple variations.

I think it makes a lot of difference whether the URL's are clickable/rightclick-copyable or not. Remember, people are lazy. Therefore filtering 'www.' (all complete URL's) on trial accounts would have quite an effect imho. At least on their success rate. Dunno if they would simply keep on spamming.

I wholeheartedly sign this. A half hour ago my alt, who is currently logged in from my laptop, blocked a spammer as he passed through the local shes located in. 5 minutes later I turn my computer chair around to do something on my desktop, and I see the same spammer in the system my main is idling in.
The solution is simple. Block all 15 day free trial characters from using anything but rookie chat until theyve gotten GM approval to join the rest of the population of eve. No typing in local, no spamming the noobcorp channels, no more spamminbg our eve mails despite how high our CSPA chage is jacked up until they get tenative GM approval. Heck, use that limitation as a tutorial introduction to the petition system.
Were all getting sick of the spam, CCP, and all our block lists are friggin huge, do something.
Hell at the very least give all characters the ability to selectivly block all characters up to X (where X is 0-15) days in age.

This won't work. If you've ever played any other MMOs, you'll notice that many have tried this yet the problem remains: the currency vendors simply alter their message to read (for example) www, buymyisk, com and completely bypass the filter whilst still getting their message across.
The problem lies with the users. The community does a pretty good job of creating a stigma of isk buying and CCP do too, however there is no solution that any of us can offer that could be considered satisfactory. Option one is for CCP to do something, which in truth there is nothing they can do. Option two is for us to do something, and about the only thing we can do would be to "grass up" those who buy isk - something I personally consider to be deplorable as it's tantamount to betraying one's friends (one must ask one's self, would you hand over your friend to the police if they received illegal funds? This can only be your own decision). The final option would be the draconian measure of freezing all accounts that receive relatively large sums of money (100,200,500,1,000 million and so on) through mechanisms other than the regular market. The problem here is that this would probably require a team of twenty working every minute of every hour to succesfully police the player base.
In short, get used to it. Isk spammers won't be going anywhere I'm afraid.
About the only reasonable solution I can think of would be the addition of a "report user" button that is tied into the petition system without using up one of your petition slots. When any users recieves a given number of reports (a figure CCP would have to keep quiet for fear of system abuse) they are automatically flagged for GM investigation, and with any luck could be ejected within 20-30 minutes of the report.

I have to admit, the situations not as bad as in other games because of the confirmation thing, but yes I'd like to see this happen, spammers like that need to be dealt with and for one thing they waste the server's bandwith!

I think filtering the entire url or anything that resembles a url would seriously hamper the spamming. not to mention stop wasting bandwith on bogus trial accounts. I still think that all trial accounts should be confined to the rookie channel and that channel should be monitored by 1 or 2 ISD personel or GM's who can immedatly terminate an account when they post a isk selling url or advertisement. This fight needs to be more proactive.

I have to disagree with that to some degree. I agree that it is possible to circumvent any filter. They are only as good as the programming. But all they need to do to strengthen the filter is simply add all the differant combinations that would be able to bypass the filter. like adding the exampple you showed as well as "w w w or vvv as well as anything that has a ".whatever in it. Its not that difficult to overcome. if CCP dont want to do that then simply do this. Place all trial accounts so that they can only chat on the rookie channel Unless convoed by a subscribed member, then they can convo privately. On the rookie channel place that same warning they have on the help channel regarding the concequences of buying or selling isk. And on the first offense of buying isk or posting a link to sell them then follow established ccp policy. I think that is the easiest way of getting around this problem. and probably the most effective way.

WoW makes it easy, you right click on their name and the drop down menu has an option to "Report Spam" once done the spammer ussually dissapears within minutes. This of course will not really go away till the player base stops supporting them.

Easy way to fix. CCP just needs topost the address on th eboard of spammers. then we can go to the ones nearest us and physically POD them LOL. it would be hard to type with broken fingers.

Naw dont break their fingers. remove them. at the wrist. I still think limiting all trial accounts to the rookie channel and help channel is suffient. as they can easily be monitored by 1 or 2 GM's that can take apropriate actions. While the paying members can enjoy eve without the annoyances of the spam ads. I also Like Talows option where we have a spam button that send a general complaint to the gm's by sending the convo thread as well as the users name to a GM.

They want to speak in local ? Just set a message counter to avoid sending more than 200 message in a hour. I don't think a lot of people talk so much in local.
If they want to speak more, or they join a gang or they pay the same fee than to contact a unkown user.
