I think that we should have terrain in space. Just like on land, space should have features and geography, perhaps affecting sensors, communication or shields or other aspects of the game. Maybe certain natural hazards could cause different types of damage, creating advantages for certain ship build types, forcing variation in ship builds. Terrain would allow people to hide bases or hide fleets. We ought to be able to build inside dead space pockets to create complexes or fortresses.
This would allow people to explore and add another layer of depth to each solar system. It would mean that scanning could become a much more important skill, and map making could become its own profession. It would be great if we could build maps and sell copies of them, as the terrain would create a tactical element to each solar system that fleets would need to be aware of. Recon would become much more important. It could also potentially break up blobs, and force people into smaller gangs to hunt people. It would allow people to set up secret routes within a system. It could also create strategic/tactical vantage points or choke points around moons or planets.

Well, one thing that springs to my mind is the pathetic nature of asteroid belts. Maybe it's hard or too heavy a burden on CCP, but it sure would be nice to see a lot more roids than the few lumps that traditionally appear. Most of them could be the funky kinds that show up in missions and never amount to anything. Imagine flying through a vast Star Wars style field of roids looking for a cluster of the good types of asteroids among the fields of barren ones. These fields could be thousands of km in extent. Obviously, one would need more than a 16 km scanner to really run this right.
A second thing is make it optional to show up on local. I think that alone would change how people view a system. It'd no longer be, "oh there's 2 missioners and a probable pirate" (he's bald and angry) in system with you. Each system would be fraught with peril and mystery because you really don't know what's there till you look.
And sure, you ought to be able to throw those cheap warehouses, sentry guns, etc (at least in low sec) the ministructures that show up in missions. Make it so that you can't cram 5000 cruise missile towers in a tiny spot, Maybe you can't anchor a tower within a certain distance of another tower. And someone has to fuel those things. A sentry tower would be a nice bit of anti-rat firepower while you're mining some spot.

Imo i think it would be better to have fewer asteroids per system and have them larger, for example you could actually be in the same belt as somebody else and be 1000km apart and still have roids next to both ppl.

I'm not sure how CCP can do this, and other things, and not get into major programming and lag issues. Not because I don't think something like this is a valid concept but because I simply lack the technical knowlegde. The limit is almost there regarding new ship types w/out being superfluous. Maybe a couple new command ships like a heavy command ship n black ops command ship version. Once we hit that wall terrain and actual new play elements will be the most important issues. Something like this, the secret rogue base idea, and the new command ship idea (all n the forum here atm) seem to be the most practical and pragmatic ways to deal w/most of the issues people are concerned with these days. Beyond that some refinement of existing game elements and lag would be nice. I wonder if someone might not integrate these ideas in a thread that presents a 'doable' way to implement these things in an integrated way. Someone w/more technical expertise on the issue of doable.
