I was getting in to t2 frigates for PVP, was going for AF, until I read all the forum posts...
Evidently AF isn't the greatest for PVP, without a lot of backup
Since I usually roam with 2-3 peeps, was wondering what would be the best ship overall
Should I stick to my guns with the AF, or move my Skill training somewhere else?

every group needs a tackler... for what you want to do I would go interceptor

at least the AF skill points you've already got won't be wasted if you ever want to fly HACs.

well I dont think mechanic V and Eng V are a waste of skill points and I doubt you traind AF V... but hold onto your pants cause the devs have stated that AFs are getting some love in the boost patch... I hope they give us more intel on that soon :p

I fly the Ishkur and love that little ship. I have lost a few and killed more in it. Got a rupture( he had 1 rat on him ) and a celestis yesterday. Have killed a sabre and a caracel. Wolf. And a few more. It is a great ship but it does need a little love. Hope it gets a good bonus to replace the resist one and maybe a nice role bonus. Then I would fly it more than my thorax.

Don't trust everything you read on the forums.

i started out in the wolf n jaguar, i used the wold as my small gang ship and the jaguar as my solo boat.
then i moved on to to the retribution and vengeance, with retri being my gang ship and vengeance being my solo boat.
pvp is all about picking your targets and currently ive never lost solo to another af or crusier (touch wood) and they are still my favourite ships in the game.
kept me alive at every gatecamp i ever encountered (lo-sec)
i have some noce drone skills so i might chuck another 10 days into gallente frigs and get the ishkur to add to my collection, then after that i might go the whole hog and get assault frig skill from 4 - 5, being my favourite ships i feel ive neglected them in that respect

The Ishkur now has one big problem....only 25 Mbit/sec...that means even with max AF skill you can not use 5 Med or 2 Heavy drones....only 5 light drones/2 med-1 light/1 med - 3 lights/1 heavy. I hope the DEVs change it.

You can just as easily kill noobs in a rifter.

Edited by: Miss Miata on 10/01/2008 18:26:41 yeah rifter is great, awesome ship, t2 fitted its amazing for a 250k ship.....
but i prefer my af`s, the af tank has helped me despatch cruisers that the rifter would have eventually popped while killing solo, not to mention a t1 frig vs a af is another battle you cant win so another set of targets u cant attack.
even bc`s are viablle targets for af`s, hey you will lose but now and again you will win.
tbh im happy everyone hates em and thinks they are crap and easy kills.....its those people that make up most of my km`s \o/

Your opponents would easily have beaten you with a web, MWD, plate and at least 3 working brain cells. Have fun owning more noobs.

Which is 5 more drones than any other races AFs... i think you see my point.

Last I checked a maxxed out ishkur had 40 m^3 drone space 0_o ... and no they won't change it, nor do I see a real need for that tbh, ishkur still pwns.
OT: Yeah you might want to check out the EAS ships, Minmatar is great, Gallie and Caldie aren't too bad either ;). As for AFs, they're not that bad, just that an interceptor is usually better, they can tackle long and won't get caught so easily by drones and missiles.
Stealth bombers bring huge alpha to the table and with good skills reasonable dps, cov ops bring a nice recon, but with 2-3 people, you're better off with an inty if you group needs a tackler, or an AF if you need some dps, or an EAS (minnie for webbing, gallie for scrambling, caldie for jamming, don't take amarr)...
All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

Thanks for all the advice guys, i'll go for an inty now.. seems to fit with my group more
And train for AF later, to test it out at least, and of course with long term goal of a HAC
thanks again

I've seen a lot of success using the Jag as a heavy tackler. It'll be able to do some damage and still close for tackling relatively quickly. AF's aren't really dead, they just aren't that great for what you have to put into them, isk and sp wise.
Inty's are great but one bad roid bounce and you're looking for a new ship.
As far as a frig being able to pump out a full rack of even medium sized drones, are you serious? That's the whole reason of the bandwidth change, because you shouldn't be able to toss out drones that are outside of your ship class. At least, that's how I read it. A full rack of T2 light drones is pretty mean, and no other AF's get even a single drone.
All in all, each T2 Frig has good points and bad points. AF's are really the only ones that can do any damage to speak of, sans Crow. Well, I guess the SB's too.
I'd say you can max out most AF's skill wise quicker than you can any other ship. Get your T2 guns and tank skills up, and you're pretty much done. www.the-bastards.com |

Enyo gets 1 drone.

Blaster Taranis can do damage like a AF.

If you are so convinced about superiority of AFs over cruisers, I'm betting 10M that whatever AF you want to bring WILL die to a generic-fit Rupture. On TQ.

Well, if you are so sure that Flurren is wrong when he says: "Your opponents would easily have beaten you with a web, MWD, plate and at least 3 working brain cells. Have fun owning more noobs."
I assume you are going to back it up before calling him a noob. I always appreciate a extra 10M anyway ;)

If you're going to take data from a shoddy, badly maintained and inaccurate site, i dont think anyone can really help you.

I was spinning this around in my head as well the whole HAC vs HIC route, and decided that for overall gang usefulness I am going with an EAS first (Hyena), and then train up Cov Ops since it shares the same requirements. With a few days spent on training up cruise missiles you'll then have the options of either an EAS tackler, Stealthbomber DPS, or Cov Ops scout. Once you have those skills and ships to play with you can then start training for the big daddy gang ship, the Heavy Interdictor :)

AF's get slaughtered by PvP fitted cruisers, fact. If you haven't experienced it on TQ then just look at the stats, AF's are in general the same speed (or slower, except for minmatar ones) than cruisers, have less hit points, less tank, less dps, less cap...
For T2 frigates it is best to go role based and dps is not a frigate role. Inty's for anti-frigate work and gang tackling, EAS for easy to get into gang ewar support. Cov ops are very handy and a good cov-ops pilot is a huge bonus to any gang, it's not for everyone though (can be a thankless job)
