Hiya,
I'm a month old player and i'm interested in putting together a purely EW ship for bounty hunting. I plan to have my friend DPS the single victim we choose while i warp/sensor/web scramble him. What ship is the ideal ship? Any advice on how we plan to achieve this DPS tank / EW combo?
Thanks.

I'd say the best ship for you is the Kitsune or a Blackbird. Just keep range and jam the crap out of them (more than 60km because that's drone control range).

I should've mentioned i'm a Gallentian. Why the Caldari ships over any other race?

Because damps kinda suck since the last nerf. You can use the Keres if you'd like - but you'll be much more efficient in a pure ewar manner using ECM.

I'd like to do more than just jam them as they can warp off fairly easily. So i guess i'll probably want to be in close range. I was thinking of trying to get a bit of a speed tank going on it too.

Have your friend fit a warp disruptor.

Tracking disrupts suck, nos neuts on sentinel have too short range and too little power, damps are not that great after nerf. So why not pick ecm-online module: ECM. Long range, shuts down a couple battleships from safe range. Idiot proof. EW is caldari, ccp screwed over all the other races in this area. ---------------------------------------------

If what you want is to shut-down an enemy ship to 100%, then caldari is the race to go. No other race can achove the same "lockdown" as teh caldari ECM boats, and especially at range that thy can do.
So, as you are about 1 month old, a blackbirds is a great ship, enough ECM to jam 2 battleships atleast with some skills and is still fairly cheap. For future aims you could go or the Rook, which is a combat recon with about the same DPS as the caracal if that matters, but is truly the BEST jammer in game. Other than the rook is the falcon, a ship that can warp cloaked and jamm at great ranges though is alot more expensive. Both take some time to skill too.
Now there are faster ways to great jamming, The new Kitsune EAF is a great little agile jammer, and can easely stay close to the enemy if you wish, but cannot deal any DPS or tackle, make your DPS friend do that.
Another very cheap jammer is the scorpion, and as you want to go closerange this is a very good option. Fill the high-slots with torpedoes or heavy energy neutralizers, some mean ECM jammers in the 8 midslots and still sport a half-wek armor tank/buffer, or you can aim at cap and jammer strengh. This tactic will empty his cap quik, make him unable to target anything and he will die very fast indeed.
Hope that gave you some ideas -----------------------------

Thanks Sedai! Yeah i've been looking at the Scorpian. One thing i can't understand is that without warp disruption, can't the victum jump away at the first sign of danger? Or fly away at high speeds (if an inty)? The Scorpian is a very slow ship. How could i possibly tackle and jam him in a Scorpian?

You dont really solo in Scorpion. The ECM role is a support function in a gang, you prevent enemy ships from targeting friendly ships by jamming them. Using racials will put you 150km+ away from the engagement so you avoid damage by staying away from the fight and warping out when needed.

The reason people say 'Caldari' and ECMs, is because the only 'pure EW ships' that exist, are Caldari ones.
Amarr, Minmatar and Gallente have some EW ships, but most do a 'few things' - the The gallente recon does warp disruptors, damps and drones, for example.
The caldari ones, are really pretty worthless for anything _but_ jamming, so in return they get to be really good at it. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

You don't When flying ECM ships you really have to have at least one other person with you to keep the target there and kill him. ECM ships tend to be very good at what they are designed to do, namely jamming, but are worthless at anything else. If you decide to specialise in ECM you need to accept the fact that you won't be able to solo. That and you'll probably die quite a lot.

I want to be able to tackle too though. I want to totally lock down a ship while my friend DPS's him. What is the best way to totally lock down a ship solo?

To be honest, I think hes after a tackling ship not EWar.
If you want a decent combo, get your friend to fit tackling equipment with a close range dps ship. You'll be much more helpful in a blackbird jamming the target.

Ewar and tackling are two entirely different roles. Ewar tends to stay far out where it they can perform their role with impunity. Tacklers have to get close up to warp jam (and sometimes web). The closest thing to having both would probably be the Kitsune, which can damp his locking range and warp jam from long range. However, in small-gang scenarios, ECM is usually king. ------------------- I nerfed my own sig To amuse you, here is my Retriever ever since its first Trinity deployment. Edited by: Zanon Xiu on 12/01/2008 16:26:34 if your friend is doing the dps. caldari ew just wont cut it.since you are gallente go vexor. yep vexor . why.
reason, you take electronic warfare to lvl 4, get your drone to lvl 5 to use 5 and then electronic warfare drones. get 5 medium ecm drones. Now your your setup. highslots 4 smallknave nos, 1 small neut named. midslots: 10 mwd 1 named webber (langor ect) and 1 warp scrambler lowslots: 1 med repper (named or tech 2 if you can use) 1 1600 rolled tusgen, 1 damage control unit (tech 2 prefered if you can use) and finally 1 adaptive nano.
you just became the jack of all trades. you mwd to your target and quickly scramble and web. orbit at 5000 as you nos/neut him and send your 5 med ecm drones on him.once your close and webbed you do not need to mwd anymore. the nos will keep you perma using your med armor repper if your being hit. you shouls have 7k armor so you wont die quick.
congrats you just became a major annoyance to your target. the ecm drones wont lock off targets like the caldari ships can, however its still efective.
this set up is a group setup you wont thrive alone unless you carry tech 2 drones to do your dps. (i normally keep a set of 5 tech 2 hammerheads and 5 med ecm drones.)
