I'm a noob and looking which ships to train in PVP and what weapons. I started out Caldari but i've been hearing bad things about missles so I was thinking of switching before I got to far into it.
Which race has the best battle ships for PVP setups??

Edited by: Cpt Branko on 12/01/2008 18:08:12 If you're asking about battleships, then Caldari have a very good one; the torp raven.
Other then that, Caldari cruisers are sub par for actual combat but they have the only usable T1 EW cruiser around (Blackbird, the Arbitrator is a good combat ship but not good for EW really), which is a asset to any gang. Nano-fit Caracals are quite funny, too, but the Moa is a bit meh.
Caldari frigs are OK, but the Merlin is plagued by the split-weapons as is the Tristan really (although I think the Merlin is actually better then the Tristan).
BCs - well, the Drake is preety good but cannot really solo (it's nice for some purposes though).
Interceptors - the Crow is preety awesome.
AFs - they all are meh, but the Harpy is a preety good one as far as AFs go. Hawk is utter garbage.
Recons - total win. A gang with a caldari recon wins hands down. Total win. I have no words to express how much better it's for gang support then anything else in the game. Ofc, they can't solo anything, but they are total and utter win for gangs and then some.
Oh, did I say Caldari recons are utter win?
Also, the Caldari EAF is very good for small gang support.

Gallente or Minmatar top the pile as the best PvP race.
All races have a fairly reasonable complement of battleships though. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

Well, basically, Gallente/Minmatar win out when it comes to T1 cruisers and T1 BCs, and have in general better frigs (Incursus being the best tier 2 frig and outdamaging every other frig in game, Rifter being the king of tier 3 frigs in combination with the Punisher though).
Both Minmatar and Gallente have awesome tier-3 cruisers (Thorax,Rupture) and very good both tier 1 and tier 2 BCs (Cyclone/Brutix are both good despite what you may think about the Cyclone although the Brutix is somewhat better, Hurricane/Myrm are both very good, although all tier 2 BCs are very good at their thing).
All races have preety good battleships. Sig removed, inappropriate link. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

As everyone else said - Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar are what you should focus on. Amarr is a waste of time as CCP nerfed the hell out of them

What?
Amarr owns Caldari in T1 frigs, T1 cruisers (Arbitrator is much better then Caracal/etc) and has a better general PvP BC (Harbringer>Drake for general purpose really, unless you must perma-tank sentries, are baiting or are making specific Drake setups where the Drake can be better then anything else*).
If you ever want to solo in a recon, Amarr is better with the Curse.
Amarr has better HACs.
Should I go on? All races have areas they excel in. For example, for gang support, Caldari have preety usable T1 cruiser/BS and awesome recons.
Of course, EFT warfare says different.
*The Drake is preety awesome to have in gang situations now and then, because it's the only BC you can drop in front of a BS or two and not worry about wether it's going to die while you're flying around in something fast and killing support, he he.

caldari = Ewar & missiles Minmatar = speed and projectile weapons and a nice mix of alot Amarr = Massive tanking and lasers Gallente = Good closerange dps and drones
I hate to manage drones, so i dont wanna go gallente. I dont find Ewar amusing so i stay far from caldari. My choice was between minmatar and amarr... But for fun & games i chose minmatar.

Are Amarr really that bad in pvp? I couldn't (and still haven't) decide which ships to fly, so I crosstrained a bit (have a bit more into gallente ships and weaponary though). I'm still under 3mio SP in total, but it would be slowly time to decide which to take on.
I kind of liked the idea of being able to take some heavy damage while still deal some out (that's how the amarr are described, but people tell me it's far from the truth).

The arbitrator is an excellent cruiser for solo PVP. In fact it's one of the best T1 cruisers, IMO. I'm not so good at the whole detailed PVP analysis thing, but I can tell you I've racked up a dozen solo kills in mine in the last two weeks. It'll happily take pretty much any T1 cruiser/frigate out there, as well as some AFs and Interceptors. You have to have good drone skills, though, and don't bother fitting EW. It's a waste of time. If you want to EW, use a Blackbird - it's just so much better at it.
To echo what was said above, each race has it's specialty, so be careful. Bear in mind that for Solo PVP, armourtank >> shield tank, cos you have to have your web/scrammers/MWD in your mids where you shield tank goes too. And don't be too keen to write off Amarr.
That said, I'd probably advise you go for Gallente or Minmatar if you want to be focussing on solo PVP.

as far as i can figure out amarr do fine in pvp, they just have more borked ships than any other race. also not too terribly long ago the amarr missile ships weren't all that good (they were weird laser/missile hybrid abominations). seeing as the missile ships now make up a good chunk of the effective amarr fleet, i think this complaint has its origins in that era when amarr really had very few effective ships. combine that with the fact that amarr players all of a sudden had to train a new weapon skill group to use their newly non-sucktastic ships and there's a fair amount of understandable disgruntlement.
for a new player though i don't see much wrong with going the amarr route. there are good ships in just about every class but ewar (tracking disruptors are the suck). myself i'm cross training caldari and amarr. ships i most want to fly are the falcon, malediction, sacrilege, armageddon, and drake/raven to make some cash.

Edited by: Alexandra on 14/01/2008 05:25:48 Every race in EVE is effective in PvP (including Amarr) so I would not break it down to simply best and worst. Each race has their own fighting "style" and the trick is seeing which one you like to use. At that point, my advice would be to train for that race and that race only. A dedicated character is far more effective than one who splits the SP's across several different races.
I myself decided to stay with Caldari and I do not regret it. Remember that nearly half of the Caldari ships are gunnery ships that can fire at extremely long ranges. But again, play around a bit at first and then decide. Once you decide, stick to it because the longer you do the more you are rewarded than by switching to another race later on.

Edited by: Atsuko Ratu on 14/01/2008 05:45:09 Typhoon is the highest dps gank BS, but needs the most training. It looks cool too, so.
Mega is next, with its 5 uber drones and blasters. I personally think it's the ugliest BS.
Raven comes in third with the new torps. Probably the easiest to train for and use. Easiest mission ship too.
Amarr have the coolest looking ships.

/signed ammar ships look awsome - just look at executioner family, arbitrator family [enough said :)]
