I completed a mission that had me go out and meet a pirate to hear what he had to say. It was an attempt to recruit me to join the pirates, and I was told I had some months to think about it. When the mission was over, I didn't have any pirate contact info in my people and places, and I didn't remember to bookmark the meeting place, so I am not sure how I'd take that offer now.
Is this a real option - can you get missions from pirate agents? This was part of a storyline sequence of missions, and the next mission in the storyline is asking me to take out the pirate that tried to recruit me, so maybe it's just part of the story and not a real recruitment offer that can be accepted.
I am guessing that if I take the next mission and kill the pirate that the recruitment offer will die too, or if I accept the offer (how?), my empire faction standing(s) will take a big hit. Anyone familiar with this mission situation? Is this an important decision point, or just part of a story to play along with until its over?

Its a level One mission that you get when you start the game, ignoring what the story tells you. You don't actually get a chance to be "recruited" by pirates.
If you want to run pirate missions that requires going to 0.0, you will take hits on empire standing though.

Yes, a level 1 mission, the title is something like Cashflow for Capsuleers (10 in the storyline). It is from the agent I met right after the tutorial agent I started with.
Thanks for the info.

Oh yes indeedy you can ... all in 0.0 so the isk reward is substantially more than that given in hi-sec/lo-sec. On the downside, yes - Important missions will lower your faction standings with the central 'empires' .. and lower than -5.0 and they throw a cruiser and 2 support frigates at you in 0.5 and higher. Upside, apart from the isk, is that you learn fast how to survive [or not] and make a living in 0.0, and Eve without time in 0.0 is only half a game really imo :) .
