its just not the same anymore, going out for the hunt and coming back with a hold full of expensive loot 2 share out between the gang, we will be lucky 2 replace 1 deimos say loss in an evenings pvpin, where as before we would be able 2 finance the corp, buy new battleships etc from pvpin.
those days are gone, and i miss them :(

ok, well, you can complain.
But you cant use that to try to make a point on "things used to be better" and "this should be changed"

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 13/01/2008 23:59:13 Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 13/01/2008 23:56:34 why should random meaningless killing be a great way to make money?
Think of it in real world terms. Lets say you live in some poor east Asian country in some rural area that has ****ty police enforcement. That's like lowsec/0.0.
You want to make money. Do you
a) Get a job,
b) Steal money from the people who have it (as you can get away with it normally), or do you
c) Walk into random peoples houses, shoot them in the face, and take what they have on them?
A is safe and somewhat profitable, b is more profitable but less safe, and c is just stupid and pointless unless you enjoy doing it
Gatecamping shouldn't be profitable unless you hit a cargo hauler or something. Random ganking shouldn't be profitable-that's what ransoms are for. You don't need to make a huge profit PVPing in, say, 0.0-you PVP for territory which then lets you make money moon mining and such. How about you be innovative?
Why couldn't you send one scout ship to find a transport, follow it, and inform your friends of its whereabouts to set up an ambush or something?

Hmmm but HACs are far cheaper too, whereas battleships are only a few percent cheaper.
Try fighting in insurable battleships rather than T2 ships. Even at today's prices, it doesn't take many T2 mods to pay the insurance on a Domi or a Scorp.

Scams Ransoms Suicide Ganking Empire Trade alt
All player vs player ways to earn isk. They also produce way more isk than mindless rat/mission/roid grinding.
The only bastard annoying grind is raising sec status so you can gank in highsec, which normally means I have to pass on that one.

Quote: Hi, I like most Serious pvpers use pvp loot as 100% of there income
If you're a pirate, you should be ransoming.
If you're not a pirate, yeah, it's going to be hard to make a living off of PvP. I don't see why this isn't immediately obvious.
Your average PvP'er has a win/loss ratio of 50:50, and clearly you're not going to be able to replace a lost ship just from the gleanings from one victory. So there is no possible way for just pew pew PvP to be able to self sustaining.
Which seems fairly accurate: most wars are destructive forces that destroy far more than they create, which is why you see periods of building up and regrouping in between wars.
A big war should leave the universe as a whole poorer than when it started, not richer. Therefore PvP'ers, as a group, are poorer after PvP than they are before PvP. If this wasn't the case, then you could somehow make money just by shooting your own ships and blow htem up.

Not going to get drawn in the "gatecamping as a sole source of income is good/bad/griefing/the sole purpose of the game" discussion. I'll stick to cold facts.
Modules are cleap because people are getting more comfortable with invention and there are whole enterprises up and running for farming datacores. As a result it becomes easier to get blueprints to make T2 stuff which means there is more supply, while demand for the modules apparently remains the same. Higher supply and equal demand means lower prices.
Want to make more of the same loot? You have to do something about that. That means increasing demand(which you do already by blowing up ships) or reducing supply (which means targeting the people/corps that manufacture it). That's the drawback of real economics. People are apparently fitting cheap to replace builds when flying trough your camps. |

That. Unless you're flying nano-HACs (which die less often then non-nano ones; although they still die, are very expensive when they do making it a non-trivial task to pay one off), you're better off with BCs which are fully insurable and typically have a fitting cost of roughly 20-25M which isn't too hard to pay off plus 5M for premium insurance.
30M is not too hard to make in a ship. 100M-200M is not so easy to pull off w/out dying.
Of course, there are certain T2 ships which serve purposes you cannot get out of T1 ships, namely recons (and interceptors). If you are into making profit out of PvP, flying a Deimos over a Brutix, for example, doesn't make a whole lot of sense, etc...

IMHO, aside from newbs and people who buy experienced characters on e-way, I think that people who buy isk nowadays are the pure PvP players.
It's not really possible for them to keep financing those high end ships, considering their loss rate and the fact that alliances generally want people to be present in combat ops and not out making their own isk ratting or mining.
The typical carebear makes enough isk, and loves grinding invention, mining, production, etc.
I think if PVP were truly lucrative, a lot fewer people would buy isk. ------------------

You have preety much pointed out the problem. People who have HAC skills will take a Deimos over a Brutix 90% of the time. Is it worth it? No, unless you're ganking someone with significantly more people.
I see a lot of people who try to be pirates and fail due to not being able to replace their overly expensive ships, and complain they can't get ahead. They end up either using carebear alts to make ISK or give up piracy altogether.

Edited by: Merdaneth on 14/01/2008 17:29:45 You have activities you consider work, and you have activities you consider leisure time.
You consider your particular kind of PvP a leisure activity, and you had the good fortune that with your skills your leisure activities delivered you enough isk to counteract the costs. With your skills you lost perhaps 1 ship for each 10 you shot, which use to be sufficient.
Considering your line of business, only a very small fraction of the EVE population would ever be able to achieve what you did then. With the income of your leisure activity dropped, it is still possible, but now you need to kill say 50 others for each ship you lose on average. Perhaps your skills aren't up to that job anymore. You either get smart, get a job, or look for another leisure activity. ____

Invention has also hit my alliance mates aswell.
Everyone in shiny (and E-R in the days of yonder) made their money off the people we shot down. Wasn't something ridiculously profitable, but it made for our losses (Cartiff used to call a leeroy at least once a day).
Post t2 marketcrash it's miserable. The old school of people running around doing the "my business is killing, and business is good" suddenly had 0 income.
The faloff was pretty terrible, some just screamed "ok, this one was the last one", others started selling GTC's so they could still play their old game and lots of us actually started running missions in 0.0 and empire.
Adapt you might say. Sure, we did. But at what cost? Going from the old free and wild style that so many people loved in eve to "ok, let's shoot 10 more rats so I can do the nice thing once more". We paid the savings the t2 fans made with our own patience.

those who say, pirate, suicide gank or randsom..
i pvp in 0.0 and usually dont like ganking in belts, even if its in 0.0 i prob wont have time to ask 'Hello sir, may you pay 30mill for ur ship' whilst theres 40 in local and belt filing up fast of hostiles thanks 2 jump bridges/
