"Space: 2099 is an experimental film project undertaken by the creative entity Retcon Studios and spearheaded by film professional Eric Bernard. It is an updated retooling of the 1970s Gerry Anderson television series Space: 1999 with a goal similar to that accomplished with other science-fiction series such as Star Trek or The Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition. In addition to modernizing the series with enhanced visual effects, Bernard and his team are re-editing the original material to improve pacing, integrate additional material to improve the dramatic texture, and mitigate scientific and technical inaccuracies where feasible. Limited amounts of the group's sample work and promotional footage are presently available via internet.
In addition to the reworking of the original Space: 1999, the group has additional ideas to produce a sequel that takes place thirty to forty years beyond the original timeline. Space 1999 - 1x01 - Breakaway
"Original Air DateGÇö17 October 1975
The pilot episode that introduces the main cast and sets the stage for the series. Located on the moon is Moonbase Alpha, a multinational scientific research facility. One of its duties is to also monitor and coordinate the activities surrounding two large lunar dumping sites where nuclear waste from Earth is disposed of. The Alphans are trying to launch a fast-tracked manned probe to an 'approaching' planet named Meta. The Meta Probe is in jeopardy since two of the mission crew have come down with a mysterious illness. The Alphans tie the illness to the nuclear waste about the time the smaller site unexpectedly explodes. While the Alphans try to avert a similar explosion in the larger waste site, it explodes also, and pushes the Moon out of the Earth's orbit, leaving the Alphans stranded on a moon destined to wander the universe.

OMG! Several of my rotating eve sigs are from the Original series!!! Arghhh!!!
That series freaked me out as a kid ... To this day I still remember some episodes with a feeling of foreboding and dark opression.
Along Sapphire and Steel , Space 1999 is one my fav series of the era.
I still miss trippy weird tv series, most series today are just skinny people having affairs with everyone and orgy pi+¦atas around or extremely over hyped Jungian Archetypes (doctors, lawyers,evil women, repulsive rejected teenagers, blah blah etc)exploited endlessly with drama-satire and with some murder investigation/lawsuit/trials thrown in for the mix.

"There is only one catch with the name: It's already been in use by a Canadian production company that has unofficially reworked past episodes of the show."
And they are already fighting over the name.
"No other details were reported about the project, nor was any timetable on scripts, casting or production released. Once a pilot script is finalized, ITV will likely shop the project around the networks and cable providers, looking for someone to finance a pilot to move toward a potential series."
So it seems like it is still a ways off, too bad, I was looking forward to it.
