I have a situation to resolve before I get concorded:
I have a war dec on Pilot A. Pilot A is ganged with Pilot B.
I know that B cannot shoot me unless I shoot him first. But, as a member of A's gang, does B become a valid target for me? If not, what happens if B decides to rep A, does he then become a target?
Thanks for your help.

B becomes a target when he joins A's gang, regardless of gangs if he interferes in any way (remote repping, drones) he becomes a target.

Wait, B can't shoot you? I thought if B joined a fleet with somebody at war, he could participate in the war!
Under what circumstances could B start shooting? Does the wartarget (Kormara) have to shoot B first, or just shoot any gang member (such as A) before B can attack?

Ok, lets consider A,B and C to make it easier. A and B are at war;
- A can shoot B - B can shoot A - nor A or B can shoot C - C can't shoot A or B
Now C joins B's gang;
- suddenly A can start shooting C because he's siding with B, A's war target. - C can NOT shoot A still, UNTIL A agresses C. If A agresses B while C is in gang he can NOT interfere. He has to wait till agressed.
Which means that, unless C was awake and checked if B has any wars, he has no way to tell he stepped into some dog poo. A won't flash red to him, until A agresses C in which case it's probably too late.
That's what you call "pulling a Lofty".

Technically it's only a "lofty" if A and B colluded in order to kill C. If B invited C to a gang without intending that C end up dead, then that's just bad luck (or bad planning), and not a lofty. Cheers Falka

True, but lets be honest... that'll happen most of the time :)

Agreed - it's not often that such invites are innocent. Always make sure you can trust your gang-mates.

No, in a general sense that is not true - he just becomes a war target.
Quote: Under what circumstances could B start shooting? Does the wartarget (Kormara) have to shoot B first, or just shoot any gang member (such as A) before B can attack?
Basically, it may help to think of joining a warring gang the same as stealing from the cans of every player that A is at war with. This means that B will flash red to any opponent of A, but at the same time B cannot attack them until they attack first (at which point B can defend himself). Furthermore, if there are several of A's enemies present, B can only attack the ones that directly attack him. If the enemies are smart, then generally they will only shoot A until he is dead and then start on B.
So as you see, B joining A's gang really doesn't get him involved in the war at all. It just gives A's wartargets the right to shoot him in highsec (just like can theft), at which point the standard self-defence mechanism lets him shoot back.

I have a question.. using Tzar's definition of A/B/C (since we changed midpost). Is there a difference in status between B and C for A? i.e. do they show up on the overview any differently so A knows that he's free to deal with B individually and can then deal with C if he chooses?
Or do you have to be aware and check the tags to know that rather than two targets from the corp you are at war with that one of them is a different status and you won't have two firing at you? (For any longer than it takes C to get Concorded.)

War targets have a default tag of red background with a white star. Non-war targets have their appropriate tag depending if they are neutral, enemy, gang member, corp member, friendly...etc.

If another corp has a war, is there any way at all I can (voluntarily) join in their pew pew? Without taking a sec hit or going to 0.0 I mean?

You can gang up with them and hope that you get shot at in the confusion. Hopefully when their enemies see 4-5 flashing targets coming at them, they'll engage everyone. But you have to wait to be shot at first.

Yes, but if a neutral is ganged with a war target they're now a legitimate target, so they don't show neutral do they? I'm wondering if they show as an enemy or as a war target until they ungang.

No, they still show with the icon of a neutral - but they will have a red flashy background, to indicate that you are allowed to fire on them. The war targets will have their own specific icon in local.
Additionally, I have the 'Corp' column set up to show in my overview. I find this useful for a variety of things - quickly assessing who a can belongs to, telling the difference between a gatecamp and just a busy gate, and in this particular instance, if several wartargets are flying with an additional pilot in gang, the distinct corp tag will stand out and let me know he cannot shoot me first.
