Howdy doo boys and girls,
Well, itÆs that time again -- the birds are starting to chirp, the sun is peeking out from behind the clouds, and CCP is hosting another Interstellar Correspondent contest. Adding on to the wonderful team we already have, weÆve decided to take on three more pen men (or women). If youÆre a dab hand at laying down a good story and are interested in writing news material for the game, we hereby cordially invite you to go right ahead and show us.
Rules of the game:
1. Entrants may write about any topic, with two important provisos: entries must take the form of news pieces relating to something within EVEÆs fictional milieu, and must fall within the boundaries of the gameÆs currently established prime fiction. As long as these conditions are met, feel free to go wild. 2. Entries must be between 250 and 350 words in length, typed with extreme love and care. Typographical errors will be punishable by snorts of cold, derisive laughter.
3. The window for submissions is open from March 22nd (also known as ôtodayö) to midnight April 5th (a.k.a. ôtwo weeks from nowö). Entries arriving at any point beyond that time will be jettisoned without a second glance.
4. One entry is allowed per entrant.
5. Along with their story, entrants are asked to submit their username, and the name of the character they would have be an Interstellar Correspondent should they win, to [email protected]. Any dessert recipes you want to throw in there will net you some extra points from me (unless they contain cinnamon, in which case your entry will be destroyed).
Entries will be judged by a panel consisting of CCPÆs Content Department, the currently presiding team of Interstellar Correspondents, and internationally renowned chess Grand Master Garry Kasparov.* The three highest-scoring entrants will then be announced on April 19th, after which they will be officially admitted to the team amid crazed whoops of joy and merriment.
Happy scribbling, rangers. If you have questions or comments, go right ahead and post æem and IÆll do my best to clarify.
All the best, Gnauton

Nope, none beyond those already in place for the game itself. (13+)
If thereÆs a 14-year-old writing genius out there, we wouldnÆt want to have excluded him solely on the basis of age.
Unless, of course, he were Amarrian.

Quick question, UK English or US English, or does it really not matter as long as they are consistent?
Buona Fortuna, KM_____ Him the old man Priam first beheld as he sped across the plain, blazing as the star that cometh forth at harvest-time, and plain seen his rays shine forth amid the host of stars in the darkness of night, the star whose name men call Orion's Hound. |

I'm not entirely sure, except that I am interested in participating in the contest. Thing is, are you looking for short stories like the chronicles or are we looking for "This is Frederick Marckus live on the scene!" type of stories about current happenings in the game?
And, as part of the time, how much content should be generated? And for how long? And...

Does this mean you have to write a story about CCP storylines / fiction or can you write up a report on a player run event, such as the Frigate march into fountain or the recent Yulai siege? -------- How many Q's would a nublar Q if a nublar could Q newbs? |

For this contest weÆre looking for news stories only, as Interstellar Correspondents function primarily as journalists within the context of the game. You are free to create your story mostly any way you see fit, as long as you stay within the confines of the gameÆs prime fiction. That means no stories about the Jovians starting a war and wiping out the Caldari, or the Gallente suddenly mutating into gigantic fish-people (though that *would* admittedly create an interesting atmosphere at La Maison De Tous Les Plaisir).
IÆm not entirely sure I understand your second question, but the way IÆm getting it youÆre asking how much content an Interstellar Correspondent is expected to generate, on average, and how long their tenure is. ICs get regular leads from us Content chaps on whatÆs going down, and are pretty much free to jump on the leads they like and write about them. ThereÆs really no hard-and-fast quota of pieces you have to write in a given period of time, but we do ask that ICs remain active to the tune of at least a few pieces a month. As to the tenure, there isnÆt one -- youÆre an IC until you donÆt want to be, or you quit the game, or we kick your sorry butt for manhandling the action figures, or something.

CCP storylines and player run events are equally fair game. Just donÆt forget the golden rule: ixnay on violating or contradicting the prime fiction.
Hope that helps, guys. |

YouÆre probably right, at that. For clarification:
"Prime fiction" [PF] as a concept basically encompasses the history of the world the gameÆs set in, and the current interstellar political, social and cultural climate. Anything you see under the "World of EVE" heading on this web site (EVE Chronicles, short stories and information articles) classifies as PF, as do the major NPC characters featured in the stories. It would be fine to write a story about the murder of an estranged Amarr diplomat who had been uncertain of his EmperorÆs way of doing things, but writing a story where the Emperor himself is a character would violate the PF, as would writing a story where the history or current circumstances of the world are majorly changed in some way. Basically, be creative but stay within the worldÆs larger framework.
If further explanation is needed, IÆm happy to oblige.

This is truly one of those occasions that makes me glad that I signed up to Eve. I will put my heart and soul into this news report (By which I mean I will type the first thing that comes into my head for a while and post it ^^). I've always wondered how the news stories are made and if players can contribute to them. I've wanted to write a short story or news report for Eve for a few weeks now, not long after I joined up, and I'm glad my browsing time online in school happened to co-incide with this event - Now I can spend the rest of the day thinking of a story and type it up when I get home.
I'd like to wish everyone who enters the best of luck and I hope your stories turn out wonderfully. Shall we be seeing a list of links to the news reports written by the runners-up? I'm sure I'd love to read the finally chosen article, but I would also like to read those that didn't quite cut the jovian mustard.

After a weed thru CCP should allow the top 20 to be posted, allowing the comunity to vote on articles with no names.
We the players should be able to pick whom is the best. We all have ideas on what we want in the news. Therefore only those that can pass the community will be moved up to the CCp finalists. --------------------------

This sounds like a great idea. I agree we as players should be given the chance to vote. (But not those entering).

Thanks for saying that - thing swere getting a little conversationally skewed for my liking.
While I'm here, I'd like to thank CPP again for this really neat idea. I haven't thought of many feasible ideas for a small news story, but I'm sure one will come to me. I keep thinking a bit too dramatically for someone who is going to be reporting importiant, albiet mundane, news. I'll read over the background a bit more and read some previous news stories for research.
I'd like to ask that maybe CPP consider letting in more than one person, in the case of more than one person outright astounding you with the quality of their work. If it's a tough choice between two ro three people for the top palce, why not accept all of them? As long as they don't go nuts posting news stories and they coordinate well so that there are both no conflicting stories in the works and not too many background news stories being posted ina short time frame, something I'm sure everyone is capable of as part of a team, there should be no problem with welcoming two or three new news reporters. It could also help by adding a few more creative brains to the think-tank.

After some deliberation, we've decided that though this is indeed a fine idea, there are certain wild cards to be considered in its execution that would require a good deal more advance planning to iron out. For this time around we've decided to go with the panel of judges as advertised (with the exception of Garry Kasparov, because -- let's face it -- he's just not qualified), but when the time comes for the next contest we'll be sure to throw around ideas as to how to make this work. Thanks for your input, guys.
Wrangler, thank you for keeping us on-topic.

So something like this would be okay?
Market reacts to glut of Shuttle Blueprints
The galactic markets reacted to the sudden increase in the number of identical shuttle blueprints with general sense of confusion. Many are confused as to the purpose of so many blue prints, let alone the source.
Details are still coming in.
(Yes I'm being silly, but at the same time kind of serious. Of course it'd make much more sense and be gramatically correct, but you get my drift.) Never forget, a Jack-of-all-trades is master of none. |

I have always been of the opinion that you are not a genius until you don't need to say you are one - or perhaps until someone you think of as a genius calls you the same.

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'prologue' and 'epilogue' here. To clarify; for this contest we're looking for news-piece style stories. While Interstellar Correspondents have on occasion been called upon to write short stories and other material for the game, the vast majority of what they do is news-related in nature and so that's the primary area of focus here. In any case, the word count is more of a guideline than a hard and fast rule: if you slightly exceed 350 words or don't quite make it over 250, don't sweat it too much -- we'll still admit your entry.
Richard Gee: Yep, that's the format we're looking for.
Haratu: .txt files sent as attachments are preferred. E-mails will be read, albeit with an arched eyebrow and a haughty sneer.
Great submissions so far, guys. Looking forward to seeing more.

Too bad my english and writing skill are not good and I'm far too lacy.
Ok sort of [offtopic] as I want to jump on the "add more content" bandwagon.
I'm just curious about the Content team could add the diary of a traveler through the world of eve or perhaps more diaries of for example:
"Minmatar nomade trader traveling through Republic and Federation" "Gallente hauler transporting things through the World" "Caldari conducting business on different locations of the state" "Amarr monk or clergy visiting different places in the vast empire" "Gallente historian/philosophian"
thus introducing more the day-to-day things, activitie, business on stations and planets and adding maybe some locations like famous (must visit) bars/clubs, museums, historic relevant locations/persons/groups, daily magazines, Authors names/Book titles/sayings a snob can quote.
How about an world of eve encyclopaedia?
I mean it isn't like the player are unable to perform this but playerfiction diverge sometimes from the prime fiction. (Hey I like player fictions (some of the writers are realy good) but they might miss documents the content team can see, if there are.)
(I envy most on the field of world building the OrionÆs Arm project, guess my in two personal projects (not jet very advanced) will never reach that level )
