For all you gambling junkies out there, Hadean Drive Yards is pleased to announce:
ôFriday Night Poker!ö
This will be a high stakes, invite only game of 5-card poker, taking place this Friday at 22.00 (eve time)
In order to select the players invited, Hadean Drive Yards calls upon the Eve Community for those individuals who believe they have the wallet to play (and the balls to win) to Eve-mail myself with their main character (no 1 day alts or similar please), detailing how much Isk they intend to bring to the game.
In order to give the best chance of high winnings to all players only the top 5 wallets will be selected to play (no one wants to play vs. a new player 2 million wallet here) along with 5 reserves that will be invited to join should anyone drop out (either before the game or during).
I will then contact the 10 selected players where I will detail the rules, procedures and answer any questions that they may have.

Edited by: Tesk Malloc on 24/03/2004 01:56:37 Zorglub: we are probably not hundreds of millions just yet But depending on the amounts players are willing to risk, who knows?
Ramman and Sabahl: The game played will be 5 card stud with unlimited betting rounds. Each player will receive their cards through individual chat channels and bet vs each other in a mutual chat channel. If you wish to enter, please eve mail me with how much you intend to bring to the game and maybe you'll get an invite :)
Deathwing: Unfortunately I don't think that players will be wanting to see your naked amaarian ass, but if you like the sound of gambling isk, drop me a line mate :)

Edited by: TornSoul on 24/03/2004 21:13:17 3rd party - how about making that 3rd party a machine. How about furthermore doing this *in* EVE. How about maybe even allow spectators...(for a price?)
Seeing the total lack of response to Random Fun&Games I think most didnt grasp the potential of it.
In a very short time I can make a poker table for x ppl - who individually can only see the cards they are allowed to see etc. Adding some spectators is almost effortless.
And most importantly (Well I think so anyhow) is that this would happen *in* EVE - and not via some out of game mechanics.
Only problem is... I/We might send a BIGun to the pokertable with a tripple digit million amount or so...
Some might not like the idea of the guy who wrote the software taking part in the actual game (by proxy) - For obvious reasons...(I *could* easily set it up so I could monitor all cards...) Comes down to trust in the end...
Whichever it will be - The software is ready for this kind of thing - Needs a quick 'touch up' to turn it into a pokertable (includign the rules) is all...
I'll quote myself
Quote:
In reality the app is the 'pre-cursor' for multiplayer-games (think card&dices) in the BIG Bucks Casino - coming Soon Ö CCP willing.

Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 24/03/2004 22:50:23 If you change the game to Texas Holdem then SNIGG will be entering a competitor. Who wants to play 7 card stud? All real poker players play 'holdem...
And if you did such I thing I think the only way it would work would be to use a real online site that allows private tables. I think some of them allow private tables with play money. You would just have to make sure everybody buys in for the amount of isk they contributed and then let the fun begin.
I would not trust some sort of poker game that was done in the eve universe. The online sites are much more trustworthy becuase people play for money there, and ways to cheat have been mostly eliminated.

Edited by: Shamis Orzoz on 24/03/2004 22:55:52 Actually, if nobody else wants to, I'm willing to do the research into getting a private table on an online site and playing poker for isk. I think it would be a lot of fun.
BTW, all of the current SNIGG members live in Las Vegas, so we know a thing or two about gambling :)

I agree totally, I was going to suggest Pacific Poker, as they have a client that lets you log in and play for demo money, and it's very user friendly. Only problem is, no private tables :( If you find something, I'd be willing to drop more than a few large to play. The honor system would be fine with me, or if we can find someone trustworthy to 'deposit' our isk (however, finding someone everyone agrees is honorable might be tricky).
One other note I would make is would this be a tourney, last man standing style? Or would it just be, play until we break up. If it's tourney, we'd all have to start with the same amnt of ISK.

I know you can get private tables on partypoker.com. I haven't looked into it thoroughly yet, but you can't run private tournements so the blinds would be fixed. We could still do a last man standing event, or we could just play for a fixed amount of time.
The problem is if we use play money to represent isk, I think people can just buy in at any time for more play money. So we'd have to watch other players to make sure they don't just rebuy whenever they want. And we'd have to make sure everybody deposits their money with a trustworthy third party in eve.

Edited by: Tesk Malloc on 25/03/2004 01:38:31 To explain further: the game will be played via chat channels, not through a seperate website or program.
The cards will be PHYSICALLY dealt using my own fair hands and card details will then be given to the players through their individual chat channels.
All money added to the pot will be held by myself until someone wins it. The dealer (me) takes a 5% cut of any pots claimed to account for lost eve time.
On a more personal note, I admit this system does rely heavily on trust for it to work. All I can say is that I would really like to see this take off, I think it would be alot of fun and have no desire to rip players off.
I am sure that Hadean Drive Yards good name will go someway to assuring players of our honesty in this regard

Ugggggh this sounds like the dumbest idea for a scam since Morbor... I like the idea of a poker night but why not do it on Yahoo or someplace so people can rely on what their eyes tell them and not what you feel inclined to type. In fact I think I'll propose such an idea.

The problem is it would be so LAGGY. I'd really prefer a third party site. Depositing my cash to someone I trust wouldnt be a problem though. However, you need to find someone everyone can. I wouldn't have a problem with Morkt Drak or any of the other independently wealthy and well known people holding and disbursing.

True that may work better, but I was prefering to use eve to play it and not have to rely on 3rd party software. However, please keep the scam accusations to yourself, I'm trying to set up something fun here

I have to say using a outof game 3rd party 'private table' (with out of game comemrcials and what not) to do this would be 'poor style'.
It has to be 'linked' to EVE somehow or it has nothing much to do with an EVE event (apart from the fact it's ISK thats the currency)
So thank you HDY for insisting on this.
Scamming... HDY has been around for ages so please dont even go there. You dont honestly think they would ruin their reputation over a few hundred million ISK.
Doing it manually... well... *shrug*
5% cut... You might consider doing this 'pro bono' a few times to get it of the ground before starting to charge for your 'services'... *shrug* BIG Lottery

Edited by: Tesk Malloc on 25/03/2004 13:37:23 Thankyou for the support and kind words Tornsoul
Yes running it through Eve is what I had invisioned keeping it all "in game".
Manually dealing the cards again keeps it in game and not having to rely on software or a program or site that I am unfamilar with, unfortunately this is the weak link with players needing to trust our reputation. Once again thanks for your support of the HDY name
However there seems to be a split of opinion here depending on the individuals players tastes.
However my original (and not pinched ) offer of a Poker Game still stands for anyone wanting to have fun with something new and perhaps even win big isk, send me an evemail and I'll run though the FAQ.
