I agree, although i never watched the movie, to many thoughts that it might just suck horribly.
It was OK. Watcheable. Gave me a chuckle. But it just doesn't come anywhere close to the other HHGTTG media- doesn't do it's source material justice. If it weren't HHGTTG related then I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again. ------

The old "movie" is actually the BBC TV series which, as highlighted in my original reply, = awesome
I have quite a good towel story. Last Towel Day (May 25th) I was showing my respects by carrying around my towel with me all day. Me, my GF and some of her friends went to see a movie (Pirates of The Caribbean 3, I believe). Her friends were mocking me the whole way, since only one of the scallywags had even heard of HHGTTG, and he wasn't much of a fanatic. I endured, obviously, and we finally reached the cinema. We sit down, and much to my utter delight- the air conditioning was broken and was keeping the room at a refreshing 10 degrees C. So there were our various friends and a whole cinema full of people sat shivering and complaining for the length of the whole film while me and my GF sat toastily wrapped in an orange bath towel.
Adams 1, universe 0. ------
