I'm curious to learn how many of you there are here and connect with you. I think it wouldn't hurt Eve Online to take a dose of his sense of humor.

I agree, although i never watched the movie, to many thoughts that it might just suck horribly.

It was OK. Watcheable. Gave me a chuckle. But it just doesn't come anywhere close to the other HHGTTG media- doesn't do it's source material justice. If it weren't HHGTTG related then I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again. ------

I met him at a book signing once. While talking to the group he related the following story (heavily paraphrased since it was awhile ago but the upshot is the same):
Adams: "So I was talking to the movie executive preparing to sell the movie rights. He said he really liked the book and thought it would make a good movie. His only reservation was he thought viewers would feel ripped off when they learned the 'Ultimate Answer' was 42 and could I change it?"
So, not surprising movie suits f'd it up.
Adams was amazing. Very nice guy. Brilliant sense of humor. I still give the Guide to friends who do not even like sci-fi and those who trusted me enough to give it a go all loved it.
I still have vague memories though of giving up on the video game many ages ago having all sorts of trouble trying to get the fish in my ear.

Read four books, seen some of the series, never heard a the radio show and saw the movie.
Books are one of my favorite, and I reread them from time to time for all the excellent jokes. Series looked a bit meh, but was funny. Movie had some good moments but didnt even get near the shadow of the book.

The question is which movie are we talking about. The old one or the new version that left alot of people mad?

Next time you face a long road trip do yourself a favor and get the BBC Radiophonics Workshop version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Really...you will not regret it.
In fact, this radio show preceded the book. And note this is not some dude reading the book to you but rather a production with actors and soundeffects.
I gave my copy to friends making a 7+ hour road trip. When they finally arrived at their destination they just sat in the car in the driveway to listen to the last 30 minutes (kidjanot). It's really that good.
EDIT: This seems to be one copy of the radio show. Doubtless you can find it other places as well.

Not quite Adams but my experience has been his copyrights are aggressively protected. Along those lines:
This is admiral Bill Gates of the Microsoft flagship MONOPOLY. We have positive confirmation of unregistered software in this sector. Surrender all assets and we can avoid any trouble. You have 10 seconds to comply. Data: The alien ship has just opened its forward hatches and released thousands of humanoid-shaped objects. Picard: Magnify forward viewer on the alien craft! Riker: My God, captain! Those are human beings floating straight toward the Borg ship - with no life support suits! How can they survive the tortures of deep space?! Data: I dont believe that those are humans, sir. If you will look closer I believe you will see that they are carrying something recognized by twenty-first century man as doeskin leather briefcases, and wearing Armani suits. Riker and Picard, together [horrified] Lawyers!! Geordi: It can't be. All the Lawyers were rounded up and sent hurtling into the sun in 2017 during the Great Awakening. Data: True, but appearently some must have survived. Riker: They have surrounded the Borg ship and are covering it with all types of papers. Data: I believe that is known in ancient vernacular as red tape. It often proves fatal. Riker: They're tearing the Borg to pieces! Picard: Turn the monitors off, Data, I cant bear to watch. Even the Borg doesn't deserve such a gruesome death!

The radio show and books are the best hands down by far. I like the show and movie ok, but bought them anyways just as a fan.
I saw the alliance name on the galaxy map but haven't (yet) found anything else to suggest they're taking it any further here.
I have an idea (which may or may not have been done yet) ... wanna hear it?

My towel is aproximately 5 meters away in the bathroom down the hallway, if it wasn't I would hunt the thief down and feed him to angry asian hornets! ---

My towel is on the chair behind me.
I'm a big H2G2 fan, and I'm quite glad I was introduced to the series via the radio series.
My old school library did have a copy of the two seasons of the original 1980's TV show (Which kept a number of the actors from the radio series), which I just had to rent out for a laugh. It's watchable if you can deal with the 1980's special effects. --------------------

I'd like to pay homage to the man by setting up a space station in some far off corner of space and naming it "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe".
I'm new to Eve (about to start my subscription this weekend) and thought this would be a fun project outside of the day to day playing of the game.

There is an Alliance named mostly Harmless who, I'm pretty sure, own an outpost named vogsphere. Maybe you can convince them to change it. _______________________________ Pleese exucse any seplling erorr's in tihs psot |

I'm pretty sure the station 'KOS LX5 Roost' in Paragon Soul used to be called "Bar at the bottom of the universe" (being that it's the most southernly solarsystem in the galaxy) but sadly it was changed

been a big fan for a long time, i am actually quite freaked out by how long. i first read hitchhikers guide in 1982, that was over a quarter of a century ago.
loved his turn of phrase. "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way as bricks don't."
It is worthwhile to track down "last chance to see" a bit of a travel log seeing animals that are on the edge of extinction.
I do feel that the radio play is the freshest version of HHGtG.

The Old movie was actually the BBC TV series, it was released as a two Video (Don't know about DVD) box set with a copy of HHGTTG. The Radio play (BBC) was the original release of HHGTTG, it was turned into a book after the radio play and then became a BBC TV series. The New movie acording to what I have read, was written using notes that Adams had left before he died. Apparently the new content in the film was given the go ahead by him (Shrugs, how true that is?)! These books are life changers, you never really see things in the same light afterwords!
I say prep for dustoff, nuke the site from orbit...

I know about them and the outpost and *****ed up when I saw it. I wasn't able to find a full fledged station though. I'd like the station to be in unclaimed territory if possible. Something neutral or like a church is considered hallowed ground. You know ... a BS free zone where people can come and BS for fun.

The old "movie" is actually the BBC TV series which, as highlighted in my original reply, = awesome
I have quite a good towel story. Last Towel Day (May 25th) I was showing my respects by carrying around my towel with me all day. Me, my GF and some of her friends went to see a movie (Pirates of The Caribbean 3, I believe). Her friends were mocking me the whole way, since only one of the scallywags had even heard of HHGTTG, and he wasn't much of a fanatic. I endured, obviously, and we finally reached the cinema. We sit down, and much to my utter delight- the air conditioning was broken and was keeping the room at a refreshing 10 degrees C. So there were our various friends and a whole cinema full of people sat shivering and complaining for the length of the whole film while me and my GF sat toastily wrapped in an orange bath towel.

That's funny, I had that idea a year or so ago. It would be an awesome name for a station.....trying to think of what type of station would be the best fitting....probably the gallente one....
And I am a huge HGTTG fan. I thought the movie could be better but it was OK, nothing to write home about. And the girl who plays Trillian really makes me Mr. Happypants with those big blue eyes
