Edited by: Selene D''Celeste on 17/01/2008 04:35:31 Recently Ricdic, whom many of you know as the Founding Director of EBANK as well as other business ventures, spoke to me about a project he is undertaking: using a completely fresh character that isn't even specialized in trading, he plans on turning the 5,000 starting ISK into one BILLION ISK within 30 days doing ONLY trading in Jita. This crazy feat has already drawn much attention from the market community as can be seen in the market discussion thread here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=684047
Whether making 1b from nothing in a single month has long been debated, and so it is not surprising that there has already been much discussion of betting and gambling on this event. Also, API information has been made available so that interested parties and betters may monitor the situation. Given my position of running the oldest high-stakes poker parlor in EVE (shameless plug here), Ricdic has asked me to act as a broker for those who wish to bet seriously on this event and would like a third party to secure their bet.
The way this will work as follows: I will maintain a post here listing all bets that have been offered. You can offer a bet here by using the following format:
"I bet 50m to 10m that Ricdic will succeed"
Next, someone can offer to take a bid:
"I will take up PersonA on their bid for 50m:10m and bet that Ricdic will not succeed"
At this point I will contact both parties, and request that ISK be wired. Once I confirm both have paid, I shall add the bet to a list that will have entries like this:
"PersonA:PersonB 50m:10m Yes/No"
In this example, if Ricdic succeeds in this venture, PersonA would have won 10m. If Ricdic did not succeed, PersonB would win 50m. In providing this service, I will be asking for a 2% broker fee on all winnings. This means that if PersonA wins this bet, I will take 2% of his 10m winnings, then pay him the rest as well as his original 50m bet (untaxed).
Ricdic should be posted here momentarily to confirm this venture, and then the floor will be open for offerings. Of course, private betting is fine (we can't do anything about it), but this way a move public and secure gambling event can take place.

The status of Ricdic's adventure can be seen in his forum post, but to recap the first couple of days:
Day 0 - 5,000 Day 1 - 752,731 Day 2 - 6,815,655
Today is the third day since this started, so let's see what this brings. Remember, you can also bet that he will succeed in X number of days, where X < 30.

Bumping this thread, also there are no longer fees for this service in order to encourage participation, as this could be lots of fun if we get a lot of people betting here.

Quick question, how can you monitor him getting items from others? Like, say his main or a friend buys a load of the stuff he is buying and then selling, and drops it in a jetcan at a safespot. He then goes to that safespot and picks it up, and sells it all off. That way he could have a bigger stock, and wouldn't of had to of bought the stuff so his ISK could only go up on that character.
Anyway, just curious about how this could be stopped.

What kind of "Pirate" are you? you just show up and knock out my warp drive, and then start shooting me for no reason.

Since we're monitoring his actions daily using a -full- API key, all journal and transactiom logs are available. This means that a large number of items showing u out of nowhere would be fairly obvious. He's trading, which means that any items being sold should have been purchased at some point. The buying/selling records wouldn't match if the above scenario happened.
And on the non-technical side, from previous experience I can confirm that Ricdic is the right kind of crazy to do this legitimately. That doesn't keep either me or the other auditor from keeping tabs on everything though.

Ahh ok, I didn't realise items would show up on it as well.

Could a moderator lock this thread. Due to several changes in the way Ricdic is doing this 5k-1b thing the betting has become difficult at best. I think we're done here. Please keep up to date in the MD thread and not here. Thanks.
