What ship type do we lack in the game that so often traffic the sea on this our planet.
passenger ships!
Have passenger ships travel between stations. And make some of these stations into ports. Ports where shuttles fly back and forth towards the planet the station is in orbit around.
Make the planets and moon which do have people living on it show it, by adding the nightlight in the cities. All these planets and moon should have a specific name... not just solarsystem name and number.
Write a describtion about each and every planet and moon. What is specific for this specifc moon/planet? And how many lives there. The station should also reflect what the planet/moon is specialized in.
I'm having somewhat trouble understanding the sizes of the ships in Eve. let us know how many crewmembers eah ship has (the same goes for stations and planets/moons). Like a cruiser... Is it just a big vessel where I the pilot works alone? What of all those windows (?) I see on the ship is it just for the pilots pleassure.
here is another idea.. let us be able to recruit crewmembers at stations. And whe you are in a battle and you take hits (with shield down) Some of your crewmemers die. And you have to recruit some more.
I guess some of these suggestions have been made before... but well anyway.
That's all for now, from a newbie

An apocalypse has a crew of around 12,000.
A Dominix has a crew of 124
A rifter has a crew of three.

Hmm I thought these were good ideas? No reply as of yet.
to clearify:
The shuttles going back and forth from station/port to planet/moon should be quite fast at least a 1000m/s or should have micro warp drive capability. They should vanish when they have reached 15 to 5k from surface.

Where did you get those numbers?

Edited by: Cindy Goodwill on 23/03/2004 14:49:40 funny numbers :) but all ships are piloted by 1 single human. Read 'The Jovian Wet Grave' when it passes by here on the right, its a very nice story and explains how massive ships can be managed by a single human

I understand that a ship no matter the size could be run my one crewmember, but would it be practical? No!

Edited by: ShadowHawk on 23/03/2004 15:24:56 Cindy,
you're partially right and partially wrong :) the ship is piloted by one person but there is still a crew on board, read the story about Immensea, it talks about how the captain of the ship is kinda safe in his pod but worried about the crew in the ship as he has hull breaches in several places. Even though all the ships main systems are operated by one person, maintaing the ship is still a matter of having a rather large (in case of a BS) crew.
Your 280mm 'Scout' Artillery I perfectly strikes Sansha's Scavenger, wrecking for 264.3 damage.

There doesn't even have to be more NPC ships flying around, just the fact that the description of planets would say "inhabitants: 450 million" would increase the feeling that someone actually lived there.
I distinctly remembered that Elite hade planetary information. In EVE it just says, Rock, Ice a.s.o.

Yeah I think it would be nice to see alittle more NPC traffic for sure.

Having a larger crew for some of the ships is a great idea. would work well with the up coming titan. but those numbers might be a bit much

Edited by: Majmic on 24/03/2004 10:38:43 Being able to employ crew members like, say a tatical officer, which increase rate of fire or wepon damamge would be a nice addition to the game. They could be killed or injured from a volly of fire weather the ship is destroyed or not, with the option to employ a medical officer to maintain their health.
much like you find on these sci-fi tv programs

All this means more pressure on the server, which means an increase in lag. ------------------------------------------------- Lying Scumbag |

Not necessarily. For one thing, making planets "habitated" is a one-shot thing. Make a batch of textures, and apply it with the data they've already got on the stars and planets (current game mechanics are only using a fraction of the data they created when "spawning" the star cluster). Then make a patch that gives the client the new textures and then they're there.
And making "personalized" data for planets and systems is also a one-shot: spawn it in the same way as the stars, a "simple" fibbonachi (read up on how Braben and Ian Bell made the descriptions for planets in Elite, one version of which (a pre-release version) had trillions of galaxies of thousands of planets each).
the magics of such "meta-designing" is wonderful. =)

They could replace the concords with passenger ships (except in really high secure space and around concord stations) and make the concord, police and navy warp in (spawn) when something happens. We would still have the sentry guns.
The navy should also patrol space more actively than they do now, as they warp in from system to system... insuring safe highways and gateways,, even in 0.1 - 0.0 systems.

does CCP ever reply to these threads? Gives us some positive feedback, to keep the ideas flowing?
