Edited by: Saerdna16ID on 17/01/2008 10:18:13 Ok I have been doing missions 1 for a while and it was the same old thing i even got multi times the same mission to do.
Finally I find myself with a level 2 mission agent availiable to me. Start the first one but with my destroyer i got slaughter so I upgrated to a cruiser (Vexor).
So far it has been easy and only I got myself in trouble once cause the stupid mission will warp straight into 30+ enemies. But at the end i killed them all.
Now I am in a point i do the same freaking missions as level 1 but only with harder RATS. WTF, where is the variation where missions can change a bit have like doing dialog with npc and depend the dialog or your charisma to affect the mission path.
Where is the variation to help you keep yourself interest and not borred you to death until you do again and again the same mission and hope for a level 3 agent to be availiable to you soon.
Missions instead of been fun they are predictable, keep the same in different levels (story wise) and it has no interaction.
It ends up be same as mining in an asteroid for hours.
And how about some Corporate missions. So a corporate can get a mission and move in. According to the strength of the fleet moving into mission then the mission can adjust itself on quality and quantity of NPCs. This can promote good corporate fun and events.
There are so much CCP can do with missions.

The only things that make mission not boring is to check the wallet and your LP amount every 4, 5 missions.
Everything else is boooring.
But to be onest, making mission is the easiest way to make something in EVE if u don't have much time to spend playing, or if u like to play EVE while u watch tv, or talk on the phone with your girlfriend.
Most funniest or most lucrative sides of EVE request that u play EVE like a sort of FPS: always focus on spawns, people in local, be quick when fleet leader orders come, and so on. If u wanna be free, keep missioning. If u have the chance to sit on your chair and don't move your hands from the keyboard for few hours, try 0.0 ratting, pvp, or other chances this great game offer.

What for? so I can be a target of a pirate or some gang and blow me to ****es. If I had a ship and the skill to keep myself allive I could try it but atm I do not. Last thing i want is to give free kills and get pot killed by some idiot.
Once I am ready I will go but for the moment secure space is the place for me. I go in low sec space only with corp. Still most system in the game are high sec and this game should give some challenge to its players.
When I am ready (if anyone can be ready for low sec) then will try it.

It would be nice if the missions had variation so they are not so repetitive.
Ie. Different spawns so 10 variations to each mission and also different rooms and random gates to lead to them...
Making it more interesting to the runner.
Just a thought...

While I agree with you that missions are boring this is no real solution. Attributes are not supposed to affect anything but skillpoints/hour. And I don't just say that because my char is Achura. Dialog options would result in people analyzing the mission to the point where it would become common knowledge which options to choose for blitz, which for best loot and so on.
It does on the other hand sound like fun to do huge missions with your corp. L5 might qualify for that, but since I haven't done any L5s I can't say for sure.

People would whine and would happen same what happened to all those missions that managed to challenge guys with pimped faction rides. Say old 'The Assault' or old 'Recon 1 of 3'. I know those both were challenging for me at least (half armor left on cnr was norm for me on the old assault, and no I dont armor tank my cnr )

Edited by: Dr Saitek on 18/01/2008 12:13:10 Yes, after you've completed the mission a half dozen times, they do become boring. However, missions are a means to an end. You must set goals outside of missions. For instance, I have one avatar who needs the npc corp standing for a jumpclone. Another avatar needs higher level agents in an R&D Corp. Finally, a third needs to replenish the corp mineral stock, so he's running them to find that one mission where he can mine in peace.

Everything in EvE can be boring to anyone, at any given time. The same can be said about any game, anywhere, at anytime. I like golf...many people find it boring. I like to fish, many people find that boring. I also like reading, many people find that boring. I like mission-running in EvE, many people find it boring. See where I am going?
Yes, missions repeat themselves and it does get kinda old. Have you ever sat at a gate camp for 2 hours waiting for a fleet to form up? Have you ever waited hours/days for a sale order to go through? Have you ever set your production orders up, only to sit back and watch the hours tick by before your modules/ships come out of the oven? Have you ever warped from belt to belt for hours trying to earn isk?
My point is, what qualifies as one persons sheer boredom is totally someone elses bliss. The trick is, if you are bored with missions, go do something else. If you get bored with that, do something else. Since I started EvE I have gone from miner-ratter-halfarsed pirate hunter/pirate-industrialist-alliance fleet cannon fodder-ratter-and now to a mission runner. If I become bored with this, I will move on to something else...
Which makes me think...I am kinda starting to miss the sound of a FC I can barely understand calling primaries...I have nearly forgotten the dreadful waiting times that went in before hand.
Long story short...if you are bored in Eve it is either 1) your fault, or 2) this aint your game.

variety is the spice of life.. doing missions is good when you get bored of other stuff in eve.
get into a merc corp and have fun with pvp and wars and it keeps your sec rating high since u stay war decked. When you get sick of that... try exploration .. get sick of that... try doin some missions.. mix it up.
If you got multiple accounts you can also make this easier to do and be able to gain the benefit of not caring about reputation of you main or security rating. Pvp or pirate one day... then missions on another account and relax the next.. or maybe u just wanna zone out then try playin the market with a trader/hauler toon with all the money you are makin doin other things in the game.. set up buy orders and later go gather it all and ship it far away and sell for higher.. great way to earn a passive income and only requires 1 day or less every rare blue moon to go haul junk. you can also go do exploration alt and keep an alt parked in 0.0. Exploration is time consuming so its good to take breaks from that... maybe join an allaince for fleet warfare if you wanna try that.
also do some invention/manufacturing/research related stuff every now and then its a great way to make money and try something different in eve.. if you are a mission runner you get enough materials from reprocessing junk for low level manufacturing so mining doesn't have to be an option if you don't want.
long point i am making... short version if variety makes the game fun.. if you don't like missions (and yes missions do get boring even when you make 50 mill a run on some lev4's .. its not encouraging to keep you doing it all day long. Mix it up.. i play missions to relax from more over-the-top activities int he game.

(shrug) There's lots to do in eve, but it takes time to skill for it (elec upgr5 in 12 hours! Woot - covops & exploration!)
Possibly eve isn't the game for and arcade-game sort of personality.

"It ends up be same as mining in an asteroid for hours."
Correct. That's exactly what it is. As it stands at the moment, missioning is nothing more than mining moving asteroids: a way to generate ISK with PvP skills.
CONCORD provide consequences, not safety; only you can do that. |
