It's in the mail... together with the award for 'most crying fanbase in the gaming industry'.

Dude, if you actually read the Dev Blogs or choose to read the forums you'll notice these things are being worked on. It's not a simple fix, but they are working on it. BE patient, it's like when you first train BS 5, be that patient mm'kay

Didn't knew eve had competiton when it came to 250 vs 250 battles, last time i checked most online game servers have about 500 people online at any given time.

Because many people fight in 0.0 without problems.

Actually, try playing RF Online. It's a F2P Korean grind fest which I find not too bad to play and has some pretty decent PVP once you get past the "one hit your dead" levels.
They have a thing called Chip Wars where once every 6 hours or so the 3 races battle for control of a mining area. The lag in these battles is dreadful and there may be about 200 players total at one place.
EVE is not doing too badly.

I have a real problem with the "it takes time, be patient" argument. Certainly that applies, but it's been SEVERAL YEARS, and this still isn't fixed. The first time I ever saw Eve years ago, and heard about the huge fleet battles, I was all excited and thought it was awesome. Then I was promptly told by everyone I knew who played that they sucked because of the ridiculous video and network lag involved. Here it is, YEARS LATER, and nothing has changed.
It's pretty frustrating. Especially when they use the big fleet battles as such a marketing tool, showing them off in videos and such all the time as if they're smooth and flawless and awesome, when it's really just a giant lag fest and the winner is decided by who can use the cheesiest game mechanics to win. Bumping, killing ships while the pilot is logged off, POS bowling back in the day, etc.
Give me a break

Actually, years later and a lot of things have changed. You obviously don't do fleet battles or you'd know this. Years ago, fleet battles of 75 - 100 would easily crash a node. Now it takes fleet battles of 500+ to crash a node. Things have improved significantly. Yes, there's still lag, and there always will be until a single node can handle the entire player base.

It ALWAYS lags, because always enough people do get together UNTIL it lags. And, if you missed the whole "infiniband transition project" broohaha in the forums, I suggest you try looking harder. It will STILL lag anyway, even after that, but a lot less.
Lag. NOT something you can "fix". 1|2|3|4|5. |

If you think eve is bad then go try star wars lagaxies. That game will lag amazingly badly with just a 40 man battle. At least here you han have 400 man battles, sure it lags but it is still possible to fight. In galaxies if you put just 200 people in one place doing nothing the server would start lagging badly, if they then started fighting you will end up seeing things that happened 10 minutes ago, and after 15-20 minutes the server would be so stressed it would just turn inside out and die.

Once the server can handle 250vs250 battles, there will be gathering more for fights untill you have 500vs500. And than it will lag again, and some will come to the forums and whine.
Only way to control the lag is a hardlimit for a region/system. But that will upset some other again, becauce 249vs1 (all other get: Hardlimit reached, pls wait) arnt so great as well.

The OP is just as funny as he would ask:
Is it possible to have all 5 race Titans combine together into one superrobot with a giant sword that can destroy a planet with a single hit? |

I played DAoC where we had battles of about 80 v 80 and it turned into a slide show. I really slow slide show.
The fact that Eve allows battles as large as it does is worth an award. No one does it better. Argue if you want but its still true.

Try 50 vs 50 in any other MMO and then stop whining... Computers are only as far developed (within a reasonable price atleast), as we see it in most MMOs... EVE is prob one of the games most capable of hosting a PvP in large scale.
I remember SWG... 10 vs 10 and you would see a frame every 10-20 sec.

hmm maybe CCP should just prevent more than 200 ships entering the same space to fight. Then you could all moan about that instead of the 'LAG' complaint. any of you ever thought it could be your pc's that cant cope
Networks only run at fixed speeds. CCP cannot change this in code, its hardware. It will amaze you how much data needs to be transmitted to and from the servers, it also needs to be a reliable solid speed stream which the interenet cannot typically support when running close to its limits. Thats all before you take into account graphics processing and network reading on your pc. It need cycles to both update the graphics and process the network data one command at a time.

Edited by: Fifth Horseman on 18/01/2008 14:27:59 Every time I visit the page, CCP has won an award I've never heard of, from a group I've never heard, for some aspect of Eve that is barely noticeable.
But they havn't won a single award for customer service.
And if they have, then simply, lol@awards. --- Fanboi noun: 1)Person who thinks you should be happy that Eve just got a little bit worse.
