Fact of the matter is, beam lasers, rail guns (Crucible +), and artillery are all just as good in combat as heavy missiles are. Each one has its special advantage and its special drawback:
Beam Lasers: damage on the level of short-range weapons // massive powergrid and capacitor costs
Heavy/Cruise Missiles: almost inescapable // can't hurt little ships
Rail Guns: longest range despite decent tracking // takes ammo AND capacitor
Artillery: instapopping // low dps
In each case, the major benefit when properly used is enough to get noobs screaming on the forums to nerf it, while its drawbacks are enough to make an underprepared pilot feel gimped if they haven't specced into multi-race ship skills. |

I can't say I agree with nerfing either.
Missiles are right in line with other weps. And drakes are only special for their EHP.
frankly... I cant think of a single time nerfs have been good for the game..... especially since ones that were needed ... the vaga and the domi ... didnt really get nerfed, but a bunch of other things got nerfed around them. |

everyone uses HMLs because they actually are useful for their purpose, fitting and targets. where as for every other size/type of missile, the guns are so much better its a no brainer.
All missiles need a boost in explosion vel and a reduction in sig resolution imo, HMLs the least though.

Drake Changes will be a pvp buff and in terms of pve will likely make blitzing 3s nearly as profitable as 4s.
Also drake will likely be even better suited as best noob boat.
25% shield res is stacking penalized.
Unpenalized 25% rof that allows damage selection without penalty.
Unpenalized velocity bonus means hams at point range.
Thermal Missiles hit your average buffer tank 14% harder assuming a single omni resist mod.

Here is a thought, instead of nerfing everything, buff the counters and then let PVP become more of the rock paper scissors we all love.
If defender missiles were worth a **** then Heavies and drake fleets would be far less dominant.
The choices for fitting should be Tank / gank or counter, as realistic options. for true strategising.
Tracking disrupt, sensor damps, defenders, all in the same vein, the big difference is Defenders cost you a high slot rather than a utility slot.
Take the point and click ability away so that skilled players with thoughtful fits can actually make a difference and bring back the ability to counter blobs with clever fitting and tactics.
