Take care of that book, they're like gold dust nowadays. I have a copy signed by the rest of the team, and it's one of my "run in to save from a fire" posessions.
I wrote mostly the entire live section, but also some of the core mechanics, and a few of the pantheons - the entire valhallan content was my fault, and I'm still pleased with the little bit of pseudo-Saxon story in that section. Roughly 1/3rd of the total content, I guesstimate.
Have you heard there's now a 2nd edition out? Martin Klimes got the rights back and it's now available as an e-book or print version. it's not quite as beautifully baroque as the 1st ed, but it's still pretty and shiny. if you want to find out, I'll dig out the links once I'm back home and evemail them to you.

I'd love to pod my bosses ass once in a while... if he actually played EVE.
Well I can't personally say that I ever had an in-game moment of real life horror.. except if you count the short "ball-clenching" moment that you describe that I sometimes get when I get surprised by an enemy in PvP but thats more kinda the classic adrenaline I guess. 
I guess your in-game experiences with your employer will make for some fun meetings (or at least post-meeting pub visits).

as I collapse on the floor in combined hysterical laughter and the horror of "oh s*** I've just been trying to pod-kill my real-life employer!" moment.
Fortunately he doesn't take it personally, but suffice it to say, that is without any doubt, the most visceral moment of terror I've ever felt in eve, as I had horrific images of having just scuppered a rather good job by being a murderous git in Eve.
My question is... can anyone beat that moment in utter horror?

Heh the owner of the cybercafe i go to, was director in the privs, so obviously being a cybercafe a few people who play EvE have come in...the topic comes up...and well, some people weren't best pleased with the fact 5 or 6 guys he was looking at have killed countless of his corps Industrials in empire.

Last year I was at work and we were introduced to our new 'boss' as we got talking we discovered a common interest computers, which in turn led to us discovering we both played Eve.
He almost immediately told me that he was enjoying flying with the Privateer Alliance.
Honest guys! I didn't even think about it! I was horrified when I heard "Well in that case I hope you are not a total w**ker in real life." Slip out of my mouth, and in a full office.
Oh, and for those who want to know. Yes he is, total and complete

A friend a while back was unexpectantly dumped in a rather poor fashion by her boyfriend, however she knew he played eve and she also knew we did as we wouldnt stop talking about pvp battles during lessons etc, for giggles she decided to give us lot his char name and we proceeded to grief his corp for a while :D

I knew coming back into EvE that my boss was playing, he's the one the convinced me to come back. Sadly, he left EvE shortly after that and I never got a chance to send him back to his clone vat.

Well... worth a shot.
I started eve 2 years ago after I felt a fall out from ffxi. My girl friend who enjoyed the game didnt join 6 months later however this is after I got reassigned to another base and we where sperate for a while.
One day minding my own business inbetween corps being lost and all, doing some 0.0 dodging and mapping (bookmarking) ran into a dead end system where a bunch of cans littered the gate all named with so and so corpse. That should have told me to get the hell out of there. Turned back around and started to fly out when the gate activated. I knew my ship was slow and I knew I wouldn't make it back to the gate in time in this boat. So I turned to warp to the nearest celestrial object since I didnt have time to plot down my usual bookmarks when I go flying about. An Absoultion command ship uncloaked and scrammed me and toasted my poor domonix under a minute and my pod...
Virtual self woke back up read the killmail and the killers name was vaugely familar. Then I got a convo from her and it dawned on me it was the GF when she started asking how was it in my new RL base. Im quite surprised how much meaner she is in this game and finding out the lesson of focusing training is better than spreading out all over the place. Her absoltion with near maxed out stuff is proof enough when I can barely pilot any tech 2 ships myself.
And thats my story.

That was an enjoyable read. I honestly think I would have to change characters if my boss was playing Eve and was aware. I would definately like to "approach" them with an anon character. Eve is brutal, and pod killing can be unforgivable to some.

I don't have any idea's like that but I've always like the idea of having to use a breathalizer to log on..... I've lost more than one ship from drinking to much and alt-tabing in the middle of a mission.

I've podded them both a few times, even lost a CNR on loan from one of them ~
