If someone could tell me the forumala i would be very happy...

Continuosly tank(That means ignoring the buffert which tends to me the more important factor in most pvp-scenarios) would be hit points regenerated per second / (100-resistance in that particular damagetype), or an average of them.
For passive shield tanks this the hit points regenerated would be Shield Capacity / Shield Regeneration * 2.4 when the shield is at 30%, slightly less on either side of it, decreasing the further away from the sweet spot you get.
For active shield and armor tanks hit points regenerated would be Hit points recovered / Cycle time.
For an active shield tank you would have to combine the tanking abilities of the(usually almost neglectable) passive tank and the shield booster. Armor tanks has no native regeneration.

Ok lets say i have 40% resists and 300 base regen per sec... I was calculating it this way:
300/100= 3 (soo 1%=3) then 3x40%= 120 (to get how much more regen you get becouse of resists) then i added 120 to 300 base regen... so final tankable dps should be 120+300=420 but i figured that cant be right...
where did i go wrong?

40% resists means you only take 60% of the damage (*0.6), ignoring 40% of it. If your peak shield regen is 300 per second, then your peak tanked DPS on that 40% resist damage type is 300/0.6=500

Edited by: Calexis Atredies on 20/01/2008 14:16:07 To calculate your tank factoring resists in is quite simple. For any tank you calculate your HP's per second from regen and/or boosting/repping
For active you have the problem of factoring inyour shields regen (even whilst using an SB) but to make it simple just go by your boost amount per second. Boost amount / Boost cycle time = HP/S
For passive its an exponential graph up to about 30%, with a peak multiplier of 2.4. So you take (shield HP and divide by regeneration time) x 2.4 = HP/S
To factor in your resistances add them all together so for example: 60% EM, + 70% Thermal, + 70% Kinetic, + 75% Explosive = 275 Then take this number and divide by 4 275/4 = 68.75, this is your avergae resistance.
To then calculate the average percentage of damage you recieve whn being fired upon, simply deduct your average resistance from 100, in this case that would equal 31.25%.
Next you turn the percentage into a decimal, so you get 0.3125. And finally you divide your HP/S by this decimal... EG: 240/0.3125 = 768 (average tankable DPS of your ship)
If you are only tanking an NPC dealing 2 damage types use the two relevant resist percentages and divide by 2 instead.
