Originally by: Dreagon Scarr Thx, I have downgraded to smaller guns, thought of that previously actually. Motion prediction is a good idea, also could use a module to improve the tracking. Reason I was in dire need of keeping the MWD running was that I was speed tanking for a long time ...
Well, note that MWD increases your signature radius, thus making you a little easier to hit than if you're using an afterburner. Orbiting at 1000m with an AB may be just as good of a speed tank as orbiting at 3000m with a MWD. The benefit of MWD is the ability to close into range quickly... you may just want to turn it off when you get close, and orbit at 500m on your normal max speed.

Rifters are awesome ships for alot of things, but making ISK effectively aint one of them .
Yea you can rat in lowsec, But you may find that you are lucky to make enough ISK to keep yourself in rifters to rat in -=^=-

The MWD is for getting in range; usually only one burst is needed, if any. That one burst won't cause a cap problem. Orbiting with an MWD at 3000 isn't really better, speed-tank wise, than orbiting without at 1000 (where you'll end up with a default orbit of 500); in fact, it's worse because of the bigger signature radius.
As for "staying power" vs. DPS, I submit that against cruisers a T1 frigate doesn't really have any advantage in staying power; gank 'em fast, before they have a chance to get themselves organized. Most of your targets won't be as prepared for the engagement as you are--that's your edge.

MWD means you only have 75% cap, though. Fitting an AB is easier on PG/CPU, and you can continuously run it to make it very hard to hit you.
Although, the downside to this is (as you said) it is more difficult to maintain the range you want.

That Hyena set-up looks great for tackling nano-fags in a small gang set-up. A mini-Huginn if you will...
As for killing any AF, it would never break the tank of a perma-boosting lolHawk either. [yellow]Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed dimensions of 400x120 pixels and filesize of 24000 bytes -Navigato |

My second ever kill was a Kestrel in my Rifter. I found it pretty easy tbh, must have been the pilot.

With decent skills, T1 weapons a couple of named items in the mids/lows, a Rifter can get through a level 2 mission without it being too painful.
The ship is a lot of fun, the only ship I have enjoyed using more is a Wolf (a T2 Rifter) which has made short work of every level 3 mission I have tried with it.
Its a cheap ship, but you can do so much with it, do it well and have a lot of fun in the process.
Originally by: zombiedrone Edited by: zombiedrone on 21/01/2008 12:06:27 I like the idea of Trading stuff round low-sec, not something i'd thought of, but it could be a good way of making myself useful and making friends in dangerous areas. Thanks for that idea.
Yes, I realise that missioning beyond L1 is going to be beyond the Rifter, but im happy that, as you say, it is pretty effective as a ratter, and even happier that its looked on as a great ship for noobie Pirates :D. My plan had indeed been to set up a little fleet of the things, fitted for differant uses and in differant places, its cheap enough to make that very practical, ( and im usuing pretty cheap modules, no T2 for me.)
Thanks all for the encouraging input.
Oops, sone nasty Mining Alt sneaked into my post there..
