Request denied followed by: "What is the purpouse with requesting that a matter should get brought to a senior GM if GMs can singlehandedly dismiss the request based on that they themselves believe that no wrong decision has been taken, Isn't that the sole purpouse with escalating a matter to a higher instance. I will consider it to be a grave flaw if you, as a GM, can dismiss such requests at your own free will.

Response from a second GM stated that this isn't against the rules.
Followed by: Thank you for replying XXX. I take it that you have reviewed this petition and come to the same conclusion as YYY.
My request of escalating to a senior GM was based mainly getting a second oppinion on the matter since I know that GMs not rarely differ in decisions about the same subject. Still, I hope you understand how troubleing it is to be denied an escalation to a senior GM by the very GM that denied the petition in the first place. According to the article that you linked one has "the right to request that it be escalated to a senior Game Master", something which didn't come through from YYY's responses. I had to question the very reason of this system before I got this information.
Now that I got a second oppionion in this matter, senior GM or not, I am content with the decision. Thank you for your quick responses.

If it's allowed by CCP, it's a legal game mechanic, period. HOWEVER, given that EVE is in fact a fictional world represented by pixels on your screen, we're all here "suspending our disbelief" to make it "real", so I suggest that it is in fact a game flaw that does not allow a player to easily retaliate against 'grief' players. Grief play never has, nor ever will be thought of as clever or inventive play. Lofty's scam was clever, bumping a miner because you're bored is really... meh.
Sure, it's allowed (play to win, etc)... but is that really what you want this game to be?

Edited by: Kessiaan on 20/01/2008 02:16:54 I don't see how this is a big deal.
I'm mining in highsec, someone comes along, sees me with my hauler alt parked 50m away, knows he can't steal anything of value so we either play keep-away with the can (mildly entertaining as mining gets really boring after you've been at it for six hours), or he zips out about 10kms, hits the MWD, and plays miner pinball.
Since the latter is not entertaining I'll usually just warp to an SS if he does it more than 2 or 3 times. Go get a soda, ****, do whatever, come back after a couple minutes, they don't hang around. Sometimes they come back but not usually.
In any case, not griefing, just being annoying. ----- My in Eve Profile My BattleClinic Page |

I think it all depends on the situation: if you're in high sec you should be told off/punished for doing it, because all you're doing is making the game unplayable for the target, and frankly, that's not the point of the game; it's one thing to web/warp scramble a player, because these can be countered; ramming can't be, unless CCP adds damage to your ship's hull for doing it.

do you guys have a goal to make this Eve Mining Online or something? Seriously, quit petitioning to remove aspects of the game which can be relatively entertaining. whiners have gotten their way so much that it is starting to get annoying and ruining the game.

elaborate just saying whiners have gotten their way is a massive generalization of any and all arguments that take place on this forum

Its hardly a new tactic, we were bumping macro-miners and targets at least a year ago that I know of.

This is why people's petitions take a long time to get answered. People like those in this thread escalating their stupid ones, where they didnt even lose anything, to senior GMs.

I hate to suggest this (as I generally consider logging pretty lame), but seriously, log out. If you have mining drones out, they're a loss, but Mediums are probably fast enough you could recall the before you log, Lights definitely are. You disappear in 30 seconds and their little playtoy vanishes into the void. Wait a few minutes and come back, they'll probably have gotten bored and left. Not like you were going to do anything productive under those conditions anyway.

haha so the fact that he said it was legal annoys u enough to escalate it in a hope it becomes illegal further up the ladder. -----------------

I am that kind of troll.
A ship mining in high sec is a macro because there is no need to be in front of your computer watching local........
I agree, it is a bit extremist, but i prefer sacrifying high sec miners in order to kill macro. And this sacrifice is a very little one because the mineral markets are over feeded

Are you just saying it or have you tried it ? Well, i have tried it. Bumping a guy 1-2 times is ok, but bumping and preventing him from warping for a long time without having a clear benefit from it, is not.

Here's food for thought, what are CCP's rules concerning making GM decisions public ? And i don't mean "GM's consider an exploit this and that", but exactly what he responds.
Yeah, you guessed it right, everyone in this thread can now petition you. :)

I would just advise anybody who has this done to them is not react to it and go and get some coffee or have a smoke or w/e, 9 times out of 10 people do stuff like this to produce a reaction and the reaction is what holds the entertainment value for them.
If you dont give them a reaction they will most likely get bored and go away or they can moronically keep bumping a unresponsive ship around for 20 mins and in this case the phrase "simple things and simple minds" comes to mind. ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |
